@Crom-Cruach: This is true. Sad, but true.
It's a very bizarre Ancient-Grecian sort of thing, isn't it?
Not at all the greeks were open and comfortable about sexuality, especially male. This is a very recent double standard (total hypocritical double standard) by moral barometers traced at the farthest back to maybe the 1800s (repressive Victorian age England comes to mind) to find a form that could be alleged to be the ancestor of the form current western society ascribes as acceptable to show when it comes to genitalia. Which is why we have little to no problem showing the sexual organs of women in a titillating fashion (pun intended) (breasts being very sexual regardless or what anyone says) as long as it's not an outright vagina yet you can't let anyone suggests you would show the male sexual organ.
(I've been heavily studying Ancient Greek culture for about two years now, for a novel, and I'm an amateur historian :). There is evidence that the Ancient Greeks found a larger package unattractive, which is what I was referring to :} It's a hypothesis as to why male genitals are often very small on statues and in ancient art. Once upon a time, actually, you could find penises all over the place as they were a symbol of luck.
I just think that the double standard is really unfair. The industry is changing, the market is changing. Straight men aren't the only one reading comics anymore, not that they ever were, and I think some art changes are called for.
Let's try to keep it PG-13 here guys, we are talking about penises but let's try to keep it grown up or I'll get banned O_O
