It could just be me being all curious and such, but I was wondering how everyone came over to Comic Vine.

Me, I discovered the site because Red L.A.M.P added me as a friend over at ComicSpace. I did the clicky and couldn't leave. I love this site.

Hey There Gang,

I thought that in an effort to make things easy for Cap'n Crusader and his pesky arch-nemesis Red L.A.M.P, we should probably have one thread to report pages that are either duplicates of other pages or pages that are in the wrong category.

With that in mind, here are a few that I've discovered. There are pages created already for Stan Lee and Chris Claremont, but they're in the heroe's section and not creators. I've already created a creator page for Stan Lee, so the Hero page for Stan Lee should be deleted, but is there a way for you to change the Chris Claremont page to a creator page, or should I create a creator page for him and you guys can delete the hero page?

Ah, so is there's no problem with me creating missing creator pages then, right. runs off to create pages for Stan Lee, Chris Claremont, Fabien Nicieza...

I'm curious. I think I'm noticing a trend in that all the creators that are already in the database are artists. Is this just my perception, and I'm not looking hard enough? Or do we need to add writers to the creative index?

I've already added Geoff Johns, but I've noticed especially in creating the Avengers issue summaries that we don't have an entry for Stan Lee. How is this possible? ;-)

Ah, in that case, my personal feeling is the we should use the title listed inside the comic. Of course, this all turns into a pretty moot point when describing current comics since it seems that most covers these days are stock covers that have nothing to do with the issue inside. :-P

But, in my opinion, if the title listed inside the book is different than what you see outside, I take the inside title as the official one. Like, some cover might say "Thor fights Ultron to the death!" on the outside of the book to draw readers in, but the actual title on the inside might be, "When Robots Cry, they rust", which would be what the writer intended for that story to be called.

Red L.A.M.P. says:

"tyger_raven says:
"What about using Wikipedia to get information, like what books a creator has worked on, but because I've used my own words to write the bio, does that still sound shady? Would it be a good idea if I put, "Parts of this information can be found on Wikipedia" or some such?"
It's best to shy away from other encyclopedic sources. I'd rather see us all bust out our collections and just do the work ourselves. Images and credits are fair use among sites, but not writing. "

I agree with what you're saying, and I don't use wikipedia at all when coming up with bios for characters or issue summaries. However, when coming up with creator bios, I don't want to do a half-aed job, you know? Is it wrong that I look up like at DC or Marvel's websites to see what they say about their creators? I'm all for looking up info myself, but I can't remember everything about a creator's work. Like I said, I'm just trying to come up with a more complete picture.

I guess the one way to get around it is to not add info about creators that I don't know much about, huh?

You're right. I checked and there isn't even something that's similar. I too think we need that power because I can think of several characters that should be listed under that power: aside from Martian Manhunter and Apocalypse, we have Blob, Star Boy, Light Lass, Vision, Juggernaut, and probably many more that I'm not remembering right now.

Technically Thor and the other Norse gods have been established in Marvel history as aliens. So, even though it's okay to call him a god, he's really an alien with god-like powers. Interesting, no? If you want to know more, I'll do some research and try to find out when Marvel stated that they were aliens.

Yeah, I'm wary of Claremont too because while other writers seem to get better with age and experience, he feels like he hit his prime back in the 80s and is now stuck in that heyday unable or unwilling to update his style to stay current. Neil Gaiman, he surely ain't.
