Not a comic 'expert'

I've always liked reading comics. In particular, I like superheroes. While I've read some really good non-superhero comics, superhero comics is my primary interest, especially right now. For almost a year now I've subscribed to Marvel Online, so have virtually unlimited back issues. And I have really enjoyed reading! I'm purposely keeping things 'Marvelcentric' right now, I just don't have the money to get into anything else.

So I am learning about all the very complex storylines available in the Marvel U. I'm not very 'current' - right now I've fairly familiar with events up to 'Civil War', anything past that, and I'm lost. I'm signing into this site so that I can broaden my comic book knowledge. I've got a lot to learn about medium I so much enjoy and look forward to reading some more really good stories.

I walked into a local comic books store this week and hardly recognized a title on the shelf. For someone who is still trying to come to grips with 'Civil War', the 'Heroic Age' just feels very confusing. Isn't Steve Rogers dead? When I first discovered this site today, I saw further how limited my knowledge was - I took a quiz and found that I didn't know ANY of the characters asked in the first 5 questions. I've been following 'Comics Should be Good' blog feed on CBR for almost a year now, I thought that helped to fill in the gaps somewhat. But I guess not!

I look forward to reading through the back issues on Marvel Online and posting reviews of issues and series I've liked. I'll also be reading around to get some suggestions from everyone here. And then, when I am able to start buying real comics again, I'll have some better ideas of stories to get into.
