The sirens wailed, warning us. I was young. Much too young to know what all this meant. My mother led my siblings and I down the stairs, but we could feel the shaking. We could see the debris crumbling from the cieling. Our house shook and threatened to collapse. My family held eachother in the dark that was our basement. Everything was so loud, the sirens were still screeching through the walls, the house kept shaking after every drop. I was deaf from the noise. I couldnt hear her. I couldn't hear anyone. Complete serene silence. "Is it over mummy?" She was still. She didn't speak to me. Her eyes were fixed on the basement door. My eyes were stuck on the sunlight from the crack under the door. The light was being swallowed by thick smoke. Thick green smoke.
I remember choking, coughing for what little air was left under ground. I grasped at my mum hoping she would help me. "Help.. me-" I tried to tell her, but as soon as I looked at her I knew she wasn't able to breath either. Her eye's were wide and the sound coming from her throat made me cover my ears. 'STOP MUMMY! STOP!' My sibling's were lying on the floor, hands grasped at their throats. It didn't make a difference. My vision was clouded by green death completely bathing what was left of our home. My eye's threatened to close and tear's sopped my face. 'I don't want to mummy. I don't want to die.' I was still wrapped in my mum's arm's as she collapsed and lay dead on the ground. My finger's clenched her shirt as I could feel myself slip away.
Light shone in through the rubble that had collapsed atop of my life and my families lives. I hadnt thought I would see it again, but there it was.. sunlight, warming me up. I almost forgot what had happened. "Mummy, my body hurts.." I whimpered and waited for a response. All was quite except for the whispering of the wind above. I raised myself onto my elbows and looked around searching for anything.. anyone. "Mummy!!" She was lying close to me, her arms outstretched, fingers yearning to grasp at something. I touched her face and she was cold as ice. "Mummy! Wake up! Wake up mummy! You can't sleep right now!" I didn't know. I sat back cradling myself, rocking back and forth I cried to myself. "Wake up mummy.. wake up."
I crawled out of the rubble and stared into the disaster that was my home, my town. Nothing made sense.. I put my head into my hands and cried.. I looked up and grabbed my hair. "Its.. green..?" No longer brown, my hair would be another reminder of the pain and suffering of my family and I. It would remind me to never forget. I started walking, tripping over the rubble I slowly made my way in the direction of the sun. My body was weak with hunger and pain and I could barely walk without concentration. I noticed a couple green things that stuck out of the ground. I had never seen them before and I assumed they were the things that did this. I looked carefully at them. They were painted green and had a symbol on them. I would later recognize it as a biohazardous symbol. But I was unaware of the danger they were and I was angry. I screamed at the top of my lungs and kicked it as hard as I could. My foot made a large dent in the metal and I fell back in surprise. "Waahh?!" My eyes were wide with shock. I wasn't that strong. Slowly returning to my feet I put my hands up in fists. I punched it lightly and the metal bent slightly. I didn't understand what was happening. And I didn't want to.
I left and travelled as long and far as I could. Something had happened to me and I was alone. Before I left I had searched for any survivers but there was no such luck. I was so hungry I didnt feel it anymore. But the thirst was getting to me. A large Forrest surrounded my town and I wasn't familiar with anything outside of it. Walking as well as I could, I climbed up a little ridge. It was a road! I was so happy that I fell to my knees and cried. Headlights lit the now dark road, someone wss coming! I stood up and waved my hands. "Please help! Help!" I screamed and ran to the middle of the road. The car screeched to a stop and the driver jumped out of the vehicle. It was an older woman. "Are you alright?!! Are you hurt?!" She ran to my side and caught me just as I fell unconscious.
