I don't see Slott writing a book without some sort of humor in it. Yeah, it might be darker, but I don't see a total switch to batman-mode for this book. I could be wrong, but I'm optimistic that the book will still be funny. Have hope, and don't kill anyone...yet

Had another thought.

Slott is a big Dr Who fan so it stands to reason he may take some inspiration from there. Every time the Doctor dies he regenerates (completely changes his face/body and personality). The "other" was retconned during OMD meaning that Spider-man never died and underwent the transformation. What if Pete and Dr Ock kill each other during 700 and Peter sheds his skin and undergoes his own form of regeneration like he did in the other only this time the "Other" completely changes him. He wouldn't look or act like Peter Parker (due to the other changing how he looks and his personality) but he would still have all his memories. The claws and other powers he gets are a by product of his new form after he goes through the transformation.

So we don't have Peter in the suit but in a way we still do as he still has all his old memories. Peter Parker would effectively be dead because he doesn't look like him anymore and he would be forced to choose a new name for himself.

And it kind of fits because the Hobgoblin and Dr Ock know Peter is Spider-man now and if that secret is revealed to the general public then Dr Strange's spell breaks and everyone remembers his identity but if they see Peter die in his fight with Dr Ock then they would all believe Peter was dead. So if he regenerated and came back with a new face and attitude but all his old memories no one would know his identity. He'd be safe. Ontop of all that all his family and friends would be safe from enemy attacks because why would they threaten the family/friends of someone who's dead?

And yeah Slott is a MAJOR Dr Who fan lol:

Dan Slott and Matt Smith (Current Dr Who)
Dan Slott and Matt Smith (Current Dr Who)

If this is true, I think it is brilliant and a really interesting idea. I like how it covers up all the mess of OMD, allows for some changes to peter's personality, but not completely replacing him and it still allows for him to regain his memories and identity as peter parker.

I started out skeptical of the whole SSM premise, but with ideas like this or the possibility of SM2099 filling the role, my interest is piqued.

@Tmul501: I'm pretty sure where prep is involved they can only use things accessible in their universe. For example you wouldn't use Tony Stark hacking Wayne industries and stealing his tech as prep would you? You'd only use what he himself has access to.

What good is prep if you have no information about the individual you're facing? You don't study economics for an English exam...

Prep without having access to information about your opponent wouldn't do any good, which is why it makes more sense to assume that he would have access to marvel universe information. I thought these battles usually assumed that this battle would take place in a hypothetical world where both individuals exist. Otherwise I don't see what help prep provides.

@Tmul501: Except for the part where Horizon doesn't exist in the DC-verse so gaining knowledge that way is impossible.

So we ignore the fact that spider-man and iron fist also don't exist in the DC universe?

Still seems like the prep and gear give the DC team an advantage. I would imagine given a day of prep Bats could easily get access to Horizon data and figure out how to mess with spider-man's spider-sense. Not really sure how the fight between deathstroke and IF would go down, though. I'm inclined to say IF wins, but I'm not extremely familiar with the feats of either character. I would say with no prep I'd give it to the marvel team due to spider-man's vastly superior strength, agility, and spider sense, but given the current OP, I still think the amount of prep is enough to give team DC the advantage.

If this is all just a ruse on Slotts' part, I think that is cool. With how often this info is getting released early and stuff for Slott to give us the run around is bringing some of the mystery back. I was initially kind of disappointed by all of this news, but now I'm really excited to see what's going to happen.

I'm concerned about SSM. I dont' really want a spider-man book without Peter, unless he's going to go be spider-man for team books and this new guy is spider-man in new york?

Also, I'm worried about who it could be. Doesn't look like it'll be alpha, but I also hope it isn't someone I wouldn't care to read a spider-man story about (which would make it a very short list). I would be really cool with it if Shang Chi was spider-man. That could be very cool. That said, my money is on it being Harry Osborne and if I'm right, I don't think I'll be picking this up.

I'm curious to see how this plays out, but this is the first time in a long time I've seriously considered not picking up a spider-man series...

well now, you know its not miles morales. could be someone completely new.

Could just be the drawing, but based on this it can't be Andy...He's what? 15. That's a full grown adult under the mask there (Andy was scrawny). Plus I don't see Slott making MJ an accidental pedo...

This is pretty cool. I swear a few years ago I had posted on boards that Peter should be trained in some kind of combat - now he knows Spider-Fu. And I've always loved drawings where the blue in peter's costume is replaced with black. All my dreams are coming true.

That said, i'm a little worried about some of the potential changes here. I hope peter doesn't complete lose his sense of humor, because I think that's a huge part of what makes him great. I understand him losing his patience with his villains, and I think that is a sign of maturity actually (You don't see Cap letting Red Skull's crap fly...amiright?). But he needs to be funny. More importantly, it needs to be Peter. Bendis already killed ultimate Peter, removing him from the title book would really bug (no pun intended) me.

I also hope he doesn't kill anyone. I think that would be kind of stupid...one wolverine is enough...
