Nothing is perfect, even cosmic beings. Energy can neither be created or destroyed; therefore, Phoenix is a "false" quintessence force as it draws it's energy from the future unborn. (using your terminology as I've never heard that before) It seems as though in using this psionic essence, they aren't being sapped of their entire life-force, just tapped with the energy going back to the future.

What were their degrees? I assume Iceman's was accounting. Beast probably has multiple doctorates.

And I totally agree about the raw material, you can take these characters anywhere there just has to be a meaningful purpose.

My jam is full-on rewrite, tidying up some things I consider messes while possibly creating some new messes because I do love some of the convoluted time-travel/clone capers and I want things to be drastically different from the norm, but with nods to canon.

@adamtrmm: I haven't published either, but I love putting teams together and writing backstories for characters that don't have one including birthplace and full name. Even wrote one for Malice. I had a bunch of different What If... ideas and then decided to roll them all into one alternate reality and figure out how that could work without being absolutely ridiculous. (in my own mind) I'm an artist so I totally get the notion of "purity of thought and execution" It's easy to pick things apart to the point of holding down that delete key.

@adamtrmm: Back in New X-Men when the team was fighting Nimrod, that would've been a great place to have the team get lost in the time stream. This team lineup is pretty sick, it's a shame most of the characters have been hung out to dry.
