Maybe a whiper ticked off the Shiar? LOL

Never thought that I'd say that people are overanalyzing things. You guys have put like 100X the thought into this that Aaron did.

Aaron's a total hack - none of this is supposed to make sense. Character isn't something that he even bothers with,...magic powers god-Jane quote-on-quote "suffering" from cancer. Its ridiculous; so why take it seriously?

To the Gladiator fans,...Heimdall was always a lightweight but has received a superboost ever since Idris Elba portrayed him. Idris was so cool looking that Heimdall had to be amped.

And clearly Gladiator can travel at PLOT-SPEED. The "plot" likely lasts 1-2 panels in this case.

LOL,....Marvel continues to be completely unable to introduce a decent female character or alternatively remains intensely focused on alienating male readers.

Wonder when the Elf Queen will feed Malekith his 'manhood' so that we can all see the literal castration that Marvel's target readers are so keen on seeing. Man haters unite! Keep the gender war alive!

@wellsoul2: Not disagreeing that some of the Thor stories had gotten old. It's always a problem when you've got 50 years of comics already produced. But it's Marvel's lack of creativity that's at issue here.

It's a serious irony that Marvel has largely removed magic and deity status from the story line in favour of technology and alien race (advanced aliens with clubs!?!). Meanwhile Game of Thrones has been wildly successful by introducing some of those same topics into a women-popular fantasy drama.

If Marvel adopted bickering nations/allegiances into their story-line they'd have infinite possibilities. But Marvel's not into writing stories anymore they only sell comics. And this is fair criticism since Jane contradicts her own values (won't accept magic healing, accepts magic hammer), the story contradicts basic logic (first name) and makes a corporation (which only exists due to the laws and agreements of nations) as some type of super power. Thor has never gone up against a corporation because he's a god and not bound by sovereign national laws.

I state that most Thor fans would have accepted Jane or any other women accepting the 'mantle' of Thor if he had actually gone missing. They could have made up something about Thor missing or dying or whatever and that (non-sentient) Mjolnir recognized Thor's essence in Jane for whatever reason. Jane could have started out a real character development cycle of not knowing what to make of this; being clumsy with her new class 100 strength/powers; maybe realizing that she had a new lease on life from her cancer and the eureka moment that might actually have on someone. Odin could have also gone missing. Who cares?

But instead of a real story like that Marvel had to turn this into a gender war:

A. Keep Thor in the comic for sex appeal to women readers (endless man-teets pics),...you know the stuff that feminists complain is demeaning to them.

B. Change Odin into a patriarchal tyrant just so that women can smash men in the face.

C. Make Jane 100% as adept at fighting as Thor with 1000 years experience just so that we can all show that women are better than men in everything.

D. Having Thor give up his birth-name. Throughout history there's this idea of honour to either a family name or some idea larger than oneself. Thor is Thor and Thor is not bigger than Thor and Thor is not less than Thor --> it's not a mantle. If Thor had gone away for any in-character reason,....none of this would be a discussion. Jane could adopt Thor's name to honour him and people might not like it but we wouldn't be here on the message boards ranting about it.

E. Change none of Jane-Thor's dialogue so that it can keep it's appeal to long-time Thor fans. As if.

F. Ridiculous 'women-united' scenes. Black Widow fighting the Destroyer,...sigh. With of course a token shirtless man-hunk wearing his pink ribbon (and an axe).

So what's up with all the hate for this title? Marvel made it a gender war and men are reacting to being targeted. And guess what? Women are supporting this gender war.

At the risk of ranting picture the following scenario:

  • A man confronts a women. The women says that men are jerks or something and the man breaks her jaw for saying it.
  • Then the woman's husband comes out. The husband then knocks her the f--- out because she disagreed with a man. And then the husband agrees with the man becomes he's a man.

Can you imagine how feminists would react to that scene? Well in role-reversed order that's what happened in this "Thor" comic. So yeah,....gender war is what this is all about.

@thunderingthorfan: OMG I am so sorry for making an "alienated and mysoginistic" male feel alienated and discriminated against. My deepest apologies and welcome to the club.

@dark_stranger You know I don't really want to add poison to something that other people enjoy. I don't really want to do that. But at the same time this comic and the company that publishes it has declared males (white or otherwise) to be something that is unwanted. The jaw-breaking of males who disagree is a little unforgivable in my mind. The attacks of misogyny every time somebody points out the definition of a first name are mind-boggling.

This Trump phenomenon is a symptom and a result of the kind of bullying that the politically correct has been putting at the feet of everyone who might have a different opinion. On the lead-up to election night you could just feel the condescending of "small-minded, rural people vote for Trump,...because they don't understand anything". Well,....rural people who may or may not be small-minded (the same as anyone from any geography) know when they're being talked down to.

So they voted for Trump because they're tired of being alienated and ridiculed. What's this got to do with Thor? Well males white or otherwise are also tired of being alienated and ridiculed and won't just "move on" from this. The sooner that Marvel wakes up to this fact and connects the Trump phenomenon to their flagging sales,...well the sooner that Marvel will invent some new characters that don't have to steal first names and we'll all be happier.

Right,...it's all about Misogyny because that's as far as white males can think. Who needs all of those white males anyway?!? This book can stand on its own merits!!! Just look at the sales!

Oh,...only 40,326 last month. Damn. I guess alienated/misogynistic white males vote with their wallets as well as their ballots.

@asgaard Yep. All good points. I could add a bunch but it all comes down to the 'feeling' of seeing the MIGHTY THOR show up. My first time I ever saw Thor was reading Hulk #300. Hulk had gone 100% rage monster with no redeeming quality. None of this "Hulk is the strongest one there is" just a pure desire on the Hulk to hurt anything that got in his way. And this guy called 'Thor' is knocking the HULK around?!?!?

But you felt Thor's rage at this monster who'd hurt his friends. You felt that his rage and the storm were one thing. Thor was a hot-blooded viking first of all (or could be) who was noble in birthright.

Or the Celestials story arc. When the Odin-infused Destroyer gets destroyed by 9 Celestials,....Thor's at first in disbelief,...then a single tear as his face twists in rage and he screams "MURDERERS!". And with the lead up being that he had just learned that Odin hadn't betrayed the earth but all along but planned the Destroyer to be the weapon but had refused to explain himself to Thor because of the hurt of being accused of wrongdoing by his son. A prideful patriarch, but not a villain.

The current writers just can't get this right. The Asgardians are aliens. Magic is technology. Every character is assassinated for women's rights.

Silver lining that Trump's election may cause a paradigm shift in thinking as people realize that angry (white) men have some legitimate things to be angry about and we may never simple accept what's happening around us. Chasing the next 10% in women and minorities won't be cost less to your existing fan base. For gawd's sake Marvel,...invent some new characters so that we can all be happy.

LOL,.....I'm going to throw Marvel and Aaron a bone based on what I've read here to help the tail wag the dog and make this all fit.

Fury whispers not to Thor but to Mjolnir: "Wake up silly storm in a hammer god!".

The pathetic level of rigging to make this work. If Aaron and Marvel hadn't done that obnoxious BS about "this is not she-Thor, this is THOR" and made real Thor go away for whatever reason AND/OR made this some different continuity (like Thor: Ages of Thunder) AND/OR not made this comic such an obvious gender war,....none of us would be here gritting our teeth in anger! We would probably just buy a comic and accept a female Thor from a different universe and not have to read about all of these 'planations' and not feel like Marvel's trying to smash our misogynistic jaws.

Odin could be a total dink just like in Ages of Thunder and nobody would be upset. Thor could have boobs and nobody would care. Odin could be equal in power to his wife, or Thor,...or he could be way less powerful but devious like in the mythology,...and nobody would care.

But who am I to argue with a company that has decided to alienate the 90% to get the next 10%. I'm just going to keep my money far away from Marvel and keep watching the VIEW for an apology to long-term fans.

I agree,...what the hell is Marvel doing?????

Where's the man-teets focus in all the artwork that we've come to expect from "QUOTE"-Odinson-"Unquote"? It's almost like this title isn't focused on the feminist market? What gives? I thought that Marvel taking the romance novel market by storm was the future?

And the title is soooo confusing! Marvel's been telling me that the guy in that picture isn't actually Thor anymore but Odinson. So why isn't the title 'Unworthy Odinson'? They should launch a marketing campaign to clear up the confusion: "This is not Thor, not He-Thor, not man-Thor,...this is Odinson!".

I guess the current number #62 ranking for "Mighty Thor" with it's 45,929 sales wasn't quite the future that Marvel was hoping for.

I'd like to help Marvel out buy buying this book,...but my misogynistic jaw is still hurting from being smashed by the feminist supporters and their hero the "true MIGHTY THOR". Somehow that pain just makes me extra reluctant to go near the Marvel magazine section. If only me and Marvel could pretend all that never happened.

I hope that "Not-She"-Thor and "Not-She"-Hulk can get into a fight and be like: "I surrender to you because you're a girl.". "No! I surrender to you because you're a girl!",..."No I surrendered to you first because you're a girl"

Then maybe they can throw down to see who gets to surrender for the cause of girl-ness.

But I'm actually pretty confused about all this. Why call her just Hulk? Shouldn't we be calling her Bruce?

It's a bit interesting really because She-Hulk in the 70-80s Avengers pretty much exemplified the worst of the feminist movement: she had all of the alpha-male arrogance that comes from being testosterone'd up but all of the entitlement of a woman expecting the door to be held open for her (like when she almost killed Jarvis while carrying a 10-ton piece of steel and expecting Jarvis to move because,...woman walking). Like that or not, she was an interesting character because she had her own thing.

While I despise the poor writing and logic bending that goes into She-Thor, this one might be even worse since it'll likely take a strong (believable lawyer) character and reduces her to the guy-rage thing. She-Hulk has always had her own character. If Marvel's so keen on pushing the "51% minority" thing why not make an intelligent Jen Walters a "minority" rights lawyer. It could be "The Good Wife" law drama meets comics,...

Gawd,...what an F-N ridiculous reveal. Gotta give it to Aaron,...he's done his darnedest to square the circle that is fem-Thor. The tail is wagging the dog something fierce. That man can work it like a top notch used car salesman. (<-- haha,...not using salesperson).

Its truly awful to see what a PC agenda does to story telling. Marvel,...FFS stop selling comics and go back to writing stories! What an incredible waste of an incredible effort in visual artwork.

Looks like there are still 45,929 people out there who still don't understand the concept of a first name,...but they're getting awful close to reboot territory despite a Herculean effort in both PR and artwork. http://www.comichron.com/monthlycomicssales/2016/2016-08.html

I'd be happy about that,...but I'm never going to forgive Marvel for this fiasco no matter what they do to "bring 'Odinson' back".
