Did anybody pick up Red Lanterns this month. I didn't, but I've been hearing some positive buzz. Anybody able to confirm?
On an unrelated note, I would like to get in to some Marvel. I mean, I'm not one of those nutters who refuses to read anything unless he knows all the history dating back the last 40 years, but I'm TOTALLY lost. I have no idea what I should be reading right now, and I've got no idea which of the 45000(ish) crossovers from the last 20 years is good/relevant.
Could one of you Marvel-savvy people help me out please? :)
P.S. For those of you that read my blog post about which of the new 52 books I settled on, I'll give you a quick update: I decided to get all of them. Yes it hurt my wallet (a lot), but I decided that I should just take an initial leap of faith, and narrow down my selection later. Plus I got to try out a bunch of new stuff that I wouldn't have otherwise tried.
This past month has been pretty crazy, but after this week, my schedule opens up. I will be posting reviews of ALL 52 number 1's. Yep, all of them! And a whole lot more :)
So here are my picks. Please let me know what you think, as well as let me know what you'll be choosing. Remember to explain your choices a little, that's half the fun! I'm being brief so this post doesn't take me 10 hours to write Now obviously, for the sake of my wallet, I have to limit myself. I don't want to be buying more than 3 books per week. That's 12 spots to fill. Depending on your suggestions, I may be willing to push it to 15. I'm relying on you all to help narrow down my maybes, so don't be shy about critiquing!
Justice League #1
Pros- Jim Lee pencilling, Geoff Johns writing. Also, JL is back to the big names of the DCU.
Cons- I like Martian Manhunter. I'm bummed he's not on the team anymore.
Action Comics #1
Pros- Grant Morrison writing. I've been waiting for this for a long time
Cons- None so far......
Pros- looks epic, sounds like it will have repercussions for other books. I love Supes, and want to see his modern adventures. I like Perez's work
Cons- Perez has a history of delaying his work. All titles are supposedly have 3-4 issues done already, so hopefully this won't be a problem
Pros- Scott Snyder
Cons- I'm still behind in Batman continuity. Idk whether I should be getting this or Detective Comics. I think this is the right decision though....
Batman and Robin #1
Pros- Tomasi and Gleason! I like this pair.
Cons- as I said, I'm behind in Batman continuity.
Green Lantern #1
Pros- Johns' run on GL has been (mostly) incredible. Sinestro as a GL again. Looks really interesting.
Cons- None that I can see.....
Green Lantern Corps #1
Pros- Gleason. He's been pretty damn good so far.
Cons- none that I can see
None that I'm certain about.....
Pros- John Jones is in it. The descriptions makes it sound pretty darn epic. Paul Cornell is writing. His run on Action Comics has been great. He's one of my favorite writers.
Ultimately, I have no idea what it is going to be about. Still, I'm excited for it.
None that I'm certain about.....
JUSTICE LEAGUE Aquaman #1
Pros- I'm interested in Aquaman. Geoff Johns & Ivan Reis.
Cons- I don't know much about Aquaman, and it doesn't come in as high on my wishlist as other titles.
The Flash #1
Pros- I like the Flash. A lot.
Cons- I don't know this creative team.
The Fury of Firestorm #1
Pros- I developed a liking for Firestorm while reading Blackest Night/ Brightest Day
Cons- Even though I've heard that Gail Simone is a great writer, I've never read anything by her.
Green Arrow #1
Pros- I like AQ
I don't know the creative team
DC Universe Presents #1
Pros- I like the idea of a showcase book. I like Deadman. The creative team will change with each story.
Cons- I don't know the creative team of this first arc. I might wait till the next story.
I'm buying the ones I like
Detective Comics #1
I'm behind on Batman continuity. Should I be getting this one or the Batman series? Is this creative team good?
Batman: The Dark Knight #1
Pros- The art looks pretty on this one :)
Cons- I' 'm behind on Batman continuity. Is this the right Batman series to get?
Green Lantern: New Gaurdians #1
Pros- I like Kyle Rayner. The premise sounds awesome. I haven't read much Tony Bedard, but I've liked what I have read.
Cons- SO MANY OTHER BOOKS!!! haha
Red Lanterns #1
Pros- It looks cool
Cons- I don't know the creative team, and lots of other books to consider!
Swamp Thing #1
Pros- Scott Snyder writing. Art looks good, and Swamp Thing seems interesting.
Cons- I have no idea who/what Swamp Thing is! I know, shame on me for not reading Moore's run, but I haven't gotten to it yet!
Frankenstein: Agent of S.H.A.D.E #1
Pros- It's Frankenstein in a comicbook fighting stuff!
Cons- I have no idea who this character is, and I don't know the creative team.
Resurrection Man #1
Pros- The concept interests me a lot
Cons- i don't know the creative team, and I don't know the character's history
Demon Knights #1
Pros- Written by Cornell
Cons- Set in the past. That means it won't really be connected with the current DCU
None, but I'm open to suggestions :)
Teen Titans #1 Blue Beetle #1
Never really been one for Young Justice, but these two interest me. Again, I don't know the creative teams!
So that's it! Please let me know what you think of my choices. Please help me narrow down my maybes. Please feel free to leave me a suggestion if you think I've overlooked a title that you think I might like.
Finally, and most importantly, please let me know what YOUR choices are!!!!!!!!
