The Dark Knight vs. The Man of Steel

Since the creation of the iconic characters, Batman and Superman, there has always been a war surrounding the question, "Who is better? and Who would win?. Even after reading this post this question will never be solved. So, just consider all theories and you make the judgements because thats the entertainment comics are made for. Now my previous post and my username may make me seem biased, but I will be fair lol. I personally believe Batman will win. None can kill the other, but they can inflict almost fatal repercussions.
Superman is considered to be one of the most powerful heroes in the DC Universe. His vast array of powers really do make him almost impossible to kill. However having these powers does not mean he can beat everyone. His weakness to magic, kryptonite and red suns are existent, but what people overlook is his personality. No matter what, Superman wont kill. The only time Superman has ever really killed someone was Doomsday, which resulted in his own death as well. His good nature is so strong that even when he is in rogue mode, he wont ever cross that line. When people often say "he can just flatten Batman in less than  2 seconds", they are wrong. When this argument is used its no longer a Batman vs. Superman battle. Superman's inability to kill is considered one of his weaknesses. Without counting that, Superman is no longer Superman.

The next argument is Batman's prep time. People always believe that without it, Batman has no chance. Although, within the pages of Hush, Batman required none as he already kept them in his belt without completely being aware if Superman may or may not arrive. The other argument people make are the writers. When Batman is shown defeating Superman, everyone's immediate reaction is to blame the writers. I dont understand how this comment can be taken seriously. The writers are the ones who create the characters, so that means if the writers are wrong then the character in general is wrong and therefore no point in them even existing.

Another aspect, which is actually a defining point in Batman and Superman's relationship is their trust. Superman is the one who entrusted Batman with the kryptonite ring as a means to defeat him if necessary. He could have picked anyone else; Diana or Hal Jordan, but it was Batman because he knows he has the capabilities to do it. Also, Batman acts somewhat like a robot, he is constantly learning and analyzing every move Superman makes. Yes, Superman's power can defeat Batman, but Batman has perfected in evading and controlling him during a fight. But, Superman is no idiot, he does have super intelligence but in a completely different aspect than Batman. Superman can remember almost everything and can identify and understand and create technology. But Batman's unpredictable mind knows how to use it in ways Superman has not analysed or thought of because Batman knows exactly how his brain works. This is the main reason Superman knows if anybody, its him who can defeat him. As quoted by the Man of Steel himself "Batman is the most dangerous man on Earth".

Who Is More Relatable? Batman or Superman?

A good friend of mine told me the other day that; Batman is more popular than Superman only because he is a human and more relatable than an alien with superpowers. Being a fan of Batman and reading Superman, i find that completely wrong.
Yes, Batman is a human being and so are we, and last time I checked none of us are aliens with powers. But as much as I have always wanted to relate to Batman since childhood, I cant. If my parents were to die infront of me, I doubt I would ever wear the cape and cowl and fight crime. Being relatable can mean very different perspectives. What people dont realize is that Batman is no where near an average person. Through his training, he has achieved 100% human perfection and the peek of human conditioning. No one in this world can say they have trained since childhood and gained this level of skill. Not to mention his 127 mastered martial art forms and his genius brain. When reading his comics, the only thing any one can relate to, is the loss of loved ones and seeing death. But Superman has seen that too. The other perspective is his psyche. Batman is a very angry person and focuses only on the mission of bringing justice and fear to those who deserve it. While at the same time, pretending to be a joyful Billionaire. if you were a schitzofrenic, then sure you can be Batman all you want, but would you be rich and have mastered all human skills?

Now for Superman. I honestly dont like the character and I find the comics very linear and uneventful unlike Batman comics. But I still read them because part of me feels a lot like him. If I can say I relate to a character yet dont like him, well thats saying a lot. Lets look at Superman's origin. His planet blew up and was launched into a spaceship resulting in him landing on the Kent Farm and being taken in... hmmm what does that sound like? Adoption process? I am pretty sure alot of people feel like they have no home they can say they are from. Second, Superman constantly feels alienated (no pun intended) and metaphorically shunned that he cant truly be a human. What I know about growing up is that; as some point, you will feel alone and misunderstood, like you dont belong with certain types of groups and feel like you cant offer anything. Yet people get over those bumps by embracing their differences and try to build a life. Superman has done this. He has landed a secure job, a wife and a proper life living on Earth since he was born. He did not just arrive in his 20s like Kara El. He grew up there and faced the world by being different which everyone is. Yes he has superpowers that define most heroes, but he uses them responsibly and is in control of them, which many people feel they need to, Superman juggles family and saving the world, people juggle their own issues. Superman saves lives, so do cops and firefighters. If Superman inspires people then that means people see him as relatable and thus want to do good, like him.

In conclusion, Batman is the greatest human being to ever live and greatest superhero for that matter, but  he cannot relate to people, which makes his comics so intriguing because, people read comics for entertainment and taking a break from reality and seeing the darkness that Batman brings. Superman may not ever be one of my favourites, but I can see all my emotions in him and sometimes with my talents I feel like I have superpowers.

Batman Inc. Prediction

There is not much to say about Batman that everyone does not know. He is the Dark Knight, the peek of human perfection and one of the greatest minds of the DC universe. Over the years he has gone through countless changes since he first hit comics. For a long time he was considered an urban myth to the criminals of Gotham. However he has been stepping into the limelight more often due to the world's need for him.

Following the "death" of Batman in Final Crisis, Grant Morrison has taken on us on a while adventure. I wont go into any details about them as you have probably read them by now.   But the biggest change to his dynamic is Batman Inc. After Batman's return he decides to branch out his playing feild, because he realizes that everyone needs fear and the worlds needs Batman. So his plan starts with announcing as Bruce Wayne, that he is funding Batman and wants to recruit country to country. Now for my prediction of what I personally beleive will occur:

When Batman was considered to be dead, the Bat-Family changed quite dramatically.

  • Dick Grayson became Batman handling Gotham City
  • Damien Wayne became Robin and Grayson's sidekick
  • Tim Wayne, the previous robin left to search for Batman, taking on a new identity as Red Robin.
  • Barbara Gordon became the mentor of Batgirl cassandra cain
  • Superman started his new journey to being in touch with society as well as coping with the death of his best friend.

Following his return and his beginning he has let everything currently stay the same. So far he has recruited Batmen of China and France. After his journey and having a Batman in every country i think he will reletively go back to how it was before but with modifications.

  • Batman will return and handle Gotham City as he as aways done. However he will face new responsibilities. One, is the managing of Batman Inc. Many people often think that this will no longer make Batman unique anymore. However alongside the Justice League, Batman has managed The Outsiders for years making sure their values no longer change. Although because Batman Inc is much larger i think he will continue to have Afred manage Outsiders and have Katana lead like he said in The Road Home. This will give Bruce the focus to see to it that his Batmen are following orders while being watched. Another issue that has come up is how can he watch what every single Batman is doing all around the world? I think he will use the technology that was introduced in the introduction of Batman Inc. First is internet 3.0 giving him access to the entire World where he can watch and hack into every database imaginable. Second are his radio controlled Batbots that can basically go  to areas where he cant always be. Despite all this , i think this will take merely just a portion of subject matter in future comics with the focus of him still being the Batman everyone knows and loves.

  • Dick and Damien I beleive will stay as Batman and Robin but perhaps move to Bhudhthaven (Nightwing's original city) or even move to another country. The Duo do not seem to have any other important emotional attachments. I also think they would do a majority of the training of the different batmen. Right now Dick is the Batman of the ongoing titles since 1939 while Bruce is residing only in Batman Inc.  After his recruitment finishes i am pretty sure he will return to his original Batman titles while Dick and Damien stay in their Batman and Robin Reborn titles.

  • Tim Wayne I beleive will stay as Red Robin but be Bruce Wayne's sidekick. Also, now that he has grown i think he will handle quite a large load of Wayne Enterprises being the legal owner of the company.

  • Oracle will return and manage the watch over Internet 3.0 and be Batgirl once again but in the virtual world. With technology increasing this could enhance her character as truly being one with technology.

  • As for the Justice League, they have currently been reformed with Dick Grayson, Donna Troy and Conner Kent. I think Hal Jordan being one of the founding members of the previous leaugue will lead the reformed league. Also a new leaugue might start with Bruce , Clark and Diana dealing with more intergalactic situations than the reformed league.
