What Do You Want To Be When You Grow Up? 0

So here we have the second part of the three part fight between Deadpool and Bullseye (aka Hawkeye). And I really really (really) liked the last issue, it had plenty of comedy and action. But this issue went above and beyond that in almost ever way. And end poetically to the last issue. The story opens with a radio show (Dr. Feelgood) who seems to offer the same advice towards helping people that Frasier might, but to the middle class in New York. The good doctor gets a phone call from a guy who ...

Hulk &%$#ing Smash Loeb!!!! 6

What the heck? Honestly? Who sits down, starts thinking about how they could make the Ultimate Universe a place where "anything could happen" and then comes to the conclusion that the best way to do that is kill everyone? And have so many deaths that the ones I cared about (Dazzler, Daredevil and Spider-Man) don't even carry any weight?! It's amazing how the only character on the cover for this month's cover to survive the issue is The Hulk, though to be fair, Daredevil was already dead.I've was...

Ultimate Spider-Man : 'Nuff Said 1

So... yeah. Ultimate Spider-Man has ended. On the lighter side, it ends with a silent issue.I'll start off by saying that this review is nothing if I don't spoil everything about this issue. If you don't want to know how it ends, stop reading, because the entire issue revolves around what happens last few pages. The story is told beautifully in just the art, I don't think people understand how much strain it puts on the artist and writer to attempt an issue like this, the wrong artist can make o...

Let's Get Frisky! 0

Okay, so out of the five comics I read this week (Dark Avengers 5, Ultimate Spider-Man 133, Ultimatum 4 and Deadpool: Suicide Kings 3), this was the best one. Norman Osborn finally gets around to responding to the accusations Clint Barton raised back in New Avengers #50. That was 4 months ago for us, but really only a day or two for them. Norman handles the juggling act very well, pointing out that Barton used to be a "bad guy" and that when he joined the Avengers, he was joining with two terror...

It's all in the ending.... 0

I've been paying loose attention to this series following Secret Invasion. I've enjoyed the art and for the most part the logical direction the Initiative has been going on since the hammer has come down. And this issue I think was worthy of a review purely for the ending.:::SPOILER ALERT:::So that the end, Norman Osborn puts Taskmaster in charge of the Initiative! I know, for most people the drama behind all this is not very apparent. As a Deadpool reader, this is the start of what could be a lo...

All's Fair In War 0

Okay, so now we're getting somewhere. The story is finally moving along in a constructive way. This issue does a lot of following Stryfe's thoughts over the importance of Hope, who he even senses isn't a mutant. He just about kills a few characters and almost gets killed himself. On the other end of things, Angel confronts Apocalypse, who wants Warren to kill him like Angel's Horsemen name (Death) would imply. Also, the rush to save the future builds momentum as X-Force is left with 28 minutes un...

I'm not a huge a DC fan, I've never read a Green Lantern comic, I'm not really a person who most people would ask for an opinion on Green Lantern. But I read this issue as an issue alone after getting brought up to speed by the guy at Hot Comics who swears by Hale Jordan. This was a fun issue. The basics: There are several power rings out there. There is only one Orange Ring, it's owner kills anyone who threatens to steal his ring. Twist: he thinks everyone is out for his ring.Everyone Agent Oran...

That's a heavy boulder 2

Okay, so I've been critical of this series most of the last half of it's run. I haven't read the issues, just paged through them, this I did read and will be buying the TPB.It would seem to me that the opening where Wolverine threatens Betsy Ross is very similar to how he threatened Spider-Woman in New Avengers this time last year or so. Betsy isn't too fond of this and hulks out and a fight happens. There is some covering of She-Hulk's butt in one shot leading me to believe Marvel doesn't like ...

The Tale of Four Cities 0

This issue, while moving the story along, was a bit slower than past issues. It hit the plot points of : Nick Fury, meeting up with the SHIELD agents who didn't stay on the bill of Norman when he formed HAMMER.The remaining HYDRA members deciding how to move forward. Daisy and Druid looking for the recruit to replace their casualty from the last issue, who has some cool powers in terms of this book. And the rest of the Warriors digging into Nick stuff.I don't hate this issue, it just didn't have ...

Hulk smash your &@#$ing face in! 0

So after along awaited return, we finally have an issue of Ultimate Spider-Man. This issue covers a lot of ground very quickly and only puts more foundation to the fact that Peter Parker might actually die. And Mary Jane fighting with Shadowcat actually happens, so the cover is not a ploy. The core part of this issue revolves around Doctor Strange's house exploding with purple light in the last issue and the rise of the evil force that had Peter trapped once before causing him to have disturbing...

Bad Day To Have A Cold Mr. Parker 1

So, we've got what might be one of the most famous comic books in the history of comics, along side Action Comics #1, Batman #429, Captain America #25. Everyone knows the story ending, the title is the ending, Gwen Stacy dies in this issue. And the story really holds up over time, yes there is a completely pacing difference compared to today's comics, but that's really nothing to complain about. But here's how I see today's storytelling compared to this issue's. It's rather funny to me how quick...

Times passing, but that doesn't mean the story is. 0

See, I don't usually pick up too many things I finish reading and go "That was a waste of my 15 minutes." This may have been one of them. I really don't have any affection towards the art, which doesn't help the fact that this was a dry issue. Some stuff happened, Bishop tries to kill Hope like he's been doing for the last 13 issues of Cable. Cable tries to save Hope, which he's been doing for the last 13 issue of Cable. And Deadpool confuses the hell out of people, like he's been doing for the ...

Who Commits Suicide With A Bow & Arrow? 0

After the disappointment of less action more talking from Dead v. Thunderbolts, I was worried this wasn't going to go over so well. Deadpool and Bullseye are both characters Daniel Way has written fairly well in the past, so my fears should have been dismissed.Deadpool cleaned out Osborn's ATM in the last part of the Deadpool/Thunderbolts crossover (TB 131), but now he's become rather poor. He's hired by a disgruntled woman to perform a hit on a pizza delivery boy. The way it all goes down is pr...

Casualty of War 0

Recon is over for the Warriors. The time for action is now. And without pointing fingers or naming names, someone gets put into critical condition by the gentleman who returns from the dead in last month's issue. I really enjoy this spy story stuff, it's a change of pace from what I read everywhere else. Nick Fury is doing business with an old flame, by the cover I'd hope you know it to be Contessa De Fontaine. There is that long history between their words, even mistrust in both of them. But 'T...

The Life & Death of Hydra 0

A chunk of this issue is flashback, and a thing people seem to never like is flashbacks. I don't understand why. The flashbacks are unfolding the dealings of Hydra over the last 3 months, so it's really just giving the reader frame of reference. I don't have a problem with that. The cliffhanger presented at the end of the debut issue is fleshed out more. Nick Fury basically starts his talk of taking out Hydra with just his team. & Phobos reveals his visions of what will happen to each member...

When being an Avenger ain't so special. 0

This isn't really the ending I had in mind. The cover makes you think one thing and I half expected it was a fake-out cover that after the last issue would be revealed in the catalog as Iron Patriot slugging Morgan Le Fay. But when have covers ever meant anything? This is the issue that wrapped up a 3 issue long fight between The Avenger and Le Fay. Doom and Osborn take care of her, but as she pointed out, Doom can't kill her or else it threatens his timeline too. So Doom gets creative. The rest ...

Blood on Your Hands 0

Okay, I re-read this last night as part of what I described to my girlfriend to be "The 2nd of a 3 parts story." I'm referring to Bendis and Maleev's One-Shots, New Avengers: Illuminati (Road to Civil War), Civil War: The Confession & Secret Invasion: Dark Reign. And you can tell from this issue that Bendis did have plans for Secret Invasion (not to say that he was lying about having plans). There are many references to how "the mighty will fall" like Stark does at the of Secret Invasion. But...

Ultimate Talking Match? 0

Versus –preposition1.against (used esp. to indicate an action brought by one party against another in a court of law, or to denote competing teams or players in a sports contest): Smith versus Jones; Army versus Navy. So, I guess this book does place several people - Wolverine and a Panda, Wolverine and Nick Fury - against each other. But in the comic book world, usually it's thought that "versus" might imply some kind of fight. (At least there were guns and fighting when Deadpool fought The Thun...

"You give LOVE a bad name!" 0

This wasn't exactly my favorite issue of a comic ever. It was a good ending to the story, one which I really wanted to be a little more beefy. I realize that Deadpool is most known for his mouth, but there was WAY too much talking and not enough action for me. We get started with the Osborn and the Thunderbolts pretty much standing around discussing why Deadpool has been beheaded by now. Of course it's Taskmaster, so his lack of a healing factor explains first why he doesn't wake up when Black W...

Dark Son Rises 0

So here we are again, watching the middle part of a story unfold. And I'd like to get the stuff I don't like out of the way first. The art is sloppy to me, but I knew what to expect with Crain's work. Don't get me wrong, it fits that mood of the X-Force series, it's just very muddy. The story kind of works better than last issue, it feels like it's going places, but bounces between Cable and Bishop talking about their goals, the paths they've taken to get where they are & who is getting scre...

Nuffin' Said 1

So while I've been keeping up with the current Deadpool series as it's been coming out, I've also been renting out what fragments of Deadpool's solo series from the late 90's. And going into the issue, after the last issues gave us the death of Copycat and the death of Deadpool, I was willing to go into a storyline that I've only heard good things about. But this issue, well the idea of the issue didn't even hit me until half way in. There are no words. Seriously, not a text box, not a word ballo...

Ultimate Backstory 0

To be honest, I was interested in this series, I was interested about who She-Hulk was going to be in this Ultimate revamp. And it sort of pays off, but I'll let you find out the gritty details.She-Hulk took a dose of a version formula that made Hulk that doesn't cause insane anger. So She-Hulk has all the strength and twenty times the control. She's a human who wants to be super after seeing the disregard Iron Man has towards the Hulk situation facing them. But the downfall of this issue, it's a...

Okay, so I just finished reading this issue, but I have to stop reviewing to eat lunch.(10 minutes go by) My I just say if you love my taste in comics, you may also love my taste in food. Try Banquet Boneless Pork Rib TV dinners. For a buck, it was good.Okay, the review. So this issue, like other part two's of it's kind, suffers the unfortunate trait of lacking an exact beginning and end. The story really recaps how Deadpool survived the last 1000 years, 800 of them in an industrial fridge playi...

Deadpool : 90% Madness , 10% Sexual Tension, 10% All Man 0

I was lucky that I have a hold file at my local comic book store because this issue sold out in less than an hour and when I got there I thought the release date might have just been an April Fool's Joke. But it wasn't so I won't bore you with that.Deadpool finds himself where we left him in Thuderbolts #130, seducing Black Widow, Yelena Belova. And seemingly doing an excellent job of it. While they only have a brief moment for him to lay on the charm before he has to teleport away, he gets all ...

Best Deadpool Writing in 10 years? 0

I'd love to go into great detail about every page that involved Deadpool, talking about Deadpool or ads that should have had Deadpool in them. But then we'd be here for the next 20 minutes. This (and Messiah War part 1) has some of the best Deadpool writing I've seen in a long time. Which is sad, because Diggle isn't the writer of Deadpool the series. And there was even talk about his past adventures and the use of teleporting in here. I can see why Diggle said he would have loved to have Deadpoo...

Opening Shots 0

I haven't been paying too much attention to the goings-on of X-Force or Cable lately, I'm a poor college student and don't find the art for Cable that appealing. But I was told this story was going to be on-par with Messiah CompleX and treated as a second act, so I picked it up.I know the basic idea behind Cable, he's protecting the first mutant, Hope, born since M-Day and doing a lot of time traveling to do it, so catching up with all that wasn't too hard. And while there is some set-up through...

Secrets of the Marvel Universe 0

The Marvel spy series is here and it's not half bad. I know, this issue's been out for some time, and G-Man reviewed it when it did, but I find that review to be schizophrenic. The interaction between Hellfire & Quake in the beginning show that there is characters behind the drawings. And that is most backed up by how Phobos is portrayed, as a pre-teen who only wants to play Xbox all day. Nick Fury is still a bad ass, sneaking into the White House just to throw a few lines at the President, b...

Let's talk about our feelings for half an issue... 1

So, when I saw the previews for this issue, I noticed very quickly that it was all page after pages of Sentry and Osborn talking, character development, WOOT! I liked the fact that we can now understand why Sentry seems to follow Osborn so unquestioning, but I'm sad it took half the issue to resolve this point.I still like the art here, it sets the mood for the whole series and unlike Cable, I hope this artist stays around for a while because it keeps me drawn in. The rest of the issue after Sen...

The wait was really half-hearted... 0

I've really enjoyed the Ultimate Universe, it really got my into comics in a good way, but if this is the big event we're going to see out of the Ultimate Universe as it's last big push before they reset the line, than I'm sorry, 3 months was too long to wait for this. The art is of course beautiful, but I'm beginning to see why Loeb got let go from Heroes, the writing is off, and some lines seem forced. The issue does do a good job to keep the attention of the reader, but I almost feel like I co...

The Life and Death of Jamie Madrox 0

As with a lot of what we've seen from Aron E. Coleite in the Ulimate X-Men series, this issue seemed to wonder though it's 20-some pages without any real feeling of direction. It showed the mutant side of Ultimatum, yes, but it felt rushed and lacking meaning. The only saving grace for the whole issue was the mental glimpse at Jamie Madrox (my favorite rant is about his iPod and being part of mosh pits) and what it must feel like to be an army created from one person. Some of the dupes are craze...

Ok, so it's been about 7 years since I've been dug this one out of my closet, and I'm doing this review kind of blindfolded. But there are only about 4 things one needs to know that makes this a must read for any Sonic the Hedgehog fan:1) There is a sub-dimension that hold about 3000 rings and handfuls of Chaos Emeralds.2) Super Sonic3) Hyper Knuckles4) I'm pretty sure there was never an flat out reason for them to fight except that they wanted to.Back in the good old days of series where every ...

Sonic the Hedgehog gets framed... 0

Sonic the Hedgehog is by no means a dark series, or a bloody series, but as someone who read them frequently for several middle thru high school years, this issue was really the turning point for the more "edgy" stuff.Sonic is framed for the murder of his love interest Sally. And this was in the first issue of a stoy arc meant to end the rule of Dr. Robotnik. And where are we left at the end? Sonic is an outlaw. Sadly, I don't have the three issues that followed and even while doing this review,...

Old School Comics Review 0

I think once and awhile people look back on the comics that shaped their comic reading experience and at the age of about 12 I picked this baby up. It's a tattered mess in the corner of my comic collection now, but at the time it meant everything to me, which might skew my rating of 5 stars.Lately I've gone back an read this issue and still holds up for me as a children's comic. It opens up with a fight between Sonic and Knuckles  that is only topped by their fights in Super Sonic vs. Hyper Knuc...

Deadpool Vs. Osborn's Avenger's Tower. 3

I'm a big Deadpool fan, reading my reviews would kind of make that obvious, and this baby got 3 1/2 stars because it was good Deadpool. Sadly, as I suspected, it's really not the beat down that we should hopefully expect out of the next 3 issue of the crossover. We basically get given a set up issue that does the Bendis-brand set up, but better. Deadpool fights all kind of Osborn tech to try to get to the top floor where he believes Norman is, while fighting with his yellow thought boxes. The jok...

A point in Avengers history not to be missed 0

How I got away without touching on this issue when it came out a few months back is beyond me. This has to be one of the better overall issues of Avengers I've read recently. If not simply for the cover, which is awesome. The reintroduction of Pym back into the Marvel Universe is jarring. The fact that he has to answer for all the sins that his Skrull counter-parts did in the time since the public reveal of the New Avengers. Bringing him back into a world without the woman he's loved for a good ...

Deadpool and His Amazing Technocolored Dreamworld 1

Ok, so my first blab before I hit the pages of this issue as a whole is my confusion with the exact style in which Tiger Shark is drawn, in this issue (and last) he's a fish with scary arms, but by the cover art for Hulk #10, he's a white guy with a yellow and black outfit! Get it straight. It's the same month even Marvel! Maybe Deadpool fans and Hulk fans don't ever cross paths. Now, Deadpool. This issue is made worth it for two things : Bob's talks with Deadpool and the last page. I'll explain....

HULK FRIEND. 0

So the cover of this issue would make you think a full out battle between Spider-Man and The Hulk was about to be witnessed. Sadly, you'd have to buy Hulk V Wolverine to get that kind of action, something the guys at the local comic store keep telling me to do.No, what you get instead is JJJ admitting he was wrong this whole time, writing the story about Spider-Man as a hero himself. We find Daredevil has died. We see Spiderwoman saving Aunt May in what had to be an awkward meeting for Spiderwom...

Everything you need to know or see from Deadpool to love him: 0

Note: I'm really reviewing the entire four-part series.I was worried when my friend told me to pick up a series that came out when I was 6 and that was by a character who I love for who he is now and in Cable & Deadpool. But I was wrong to question him, because apparently, Deadpool has always been the Merc with the Mouth I love. This was only hard to read because I'm very used to the glamour of the look of today's comic books, but the characterization of 'Pool, Black Tom Cassidy and Copycat ...
