Ugh... Spawn needs to go away.  It was the most overhyped series of the 90s that gave us one mediocre movie and only two interesting characters (Sam and Twitch, and I give most of the credit for their awesome dynamic to Brian Michael Bendis).  The animated series was pointless, embodying the worst parts of "adult animation" (cartoon characters boning and a general tendency towards style over substance) and a complete lack of a coherent story line.  McFarlane is clearly a talented artist and the best businessman in all of comics.  I hope he gives us new properties sometime soon.

Obviously, this is completely necessary.  For serious, you guys.  If I had to look at Robert Englund one more time under heavy make up and prosthetics I was gonna barf.  But looking at Jackie Earle Haley under heavy make up and prosthetics changes everything.  Literally everything.  Like his voice.  And his... breathing style.  And other important factors to slasher films.  Here's to holding out for Johnny Depp to get eaten by ANOTHER bed.  Oh, Johnny, will you never learn?

Interesting style.  Seems very similar to David Mack's--the watercolor backdrop on page 3, especially.

Anyone who has read Joss Whedon's run on Astonishing X-Men knows that, in the right hands, Kitty Pryde could fill a badass movie.  I'm not even an Ellen Page fan, but I would still go see a Shadowcat movie.

I don't believe it.  Smacks of Hollywood politicking, trying to force the hand of Nolan into confirming, "Yay" or "Nay."  How little sense does it make since Nolan and his brother WROTE the script for TDK?  So, why is he LOOKING for one?

Sic the CBLDF on 'em.  And then remind them of something called Free Speech.  And then, just for kicks, loan them a copy of Alan Moore's "Lost Girls."

@Vortex13: Sex is one of the best things on this planet.  I wasn't referring to that being dark.  That's very light and wonderful filled with rainbows and marshmallows.  And I also agree with you that rape fantasies are fine, as long as you and your partner are both completely in agreement and trust each other enough to perform them.  Sorry, I should've been more clear on that.  However, I think the objectification of rape, as Babs and Gia seem to be discussing, is where things get a little iffy.  I suppose it all hearkens back to how the rape is portrayed.  And I agree that rape as a catalyst for heroine's progression is unfair.  However, I think there a character is made more interesting when he/she is forced to overcome an encounter like that, and rely on her own resilience and ingenuity, as opposed to, "Oh my boyfriend/friend/family died/was killed/got roasted in an intergalactic fire."  If someone close to them was killed then the story usually only goes one of two ways: they can deal with their grief and get over it and find a new, more decent reason for heroics (like Superman) or they can seek revenge and snap (like Batman).  I find the overcoming of personal, internal demons (such as rape-related trauma) to be yield much more interesting characters as opposed to those whose conflicts are entirely external (i.e.: one decent person left in a city of scum, etc.).  But then again maybe that's just me.

@Vortex13: I'm not trying to say that violence towards women isn't present in American pornography.  Indeed, it seems a disturbingly increasing trend in even some relatively tame pornos.  However, and maybe I am just misunderstanding the topic at hand, but it sounds as though pornographic anime/manga is more casual about the idea of rape.  But yes, American pornos, even with the live action aspect of it, can still deal heavily in the ideas of female subjugation.  Which is why I said that maybe all porno, no matter the culture it originates from or the content, should be deemed an inaccurate measure of anything at all (a culture's viewpoint on gender relations, for example).  Porn only serves as a window or release for a dark, taboo portion of some people's psyche.
