My favourite comic-based animated shows

TV was one of my first means of discovering comic books. So here are my top favourite comic-based animated shows.

List items

  • This is the way you make a superhero show! The crème de le crème of animated TV, this is what expanded my taste and lead me from being a mainly Marvel fan to DC. There were so many cool new characters I'd never heard of and some of the episodes were pretty creative in their plot. I remember loving it so much that I would watch episode after episode on my old laptop which was a slow as Thor's combat speed, that's my dedication level.

  • I loved The Brave and the Bold due to the jokey element to it. The "Batman does NOT eat nachos" scene will stay in my head forever and the show was generally a fun, light-hearted take on the Caped Crusader.

  • Narrowly missing second place, the Batman the first superhero inspired show I've ever watched. Me being younger than a lot of other fans means I never really got into Batman the animated series, this was my equivalent and although I don't hear a lot of praise about it from other people but, for me, this was fun to watch because of all the martial arts battles and Alfred. Yes, Alfred was one of the main reason I enjoyed this.

  • Although it didn't have as large a cast as it's renamed series, the show contained some episodes which I really enjoyed ("Only a Dream", "The Terror Beyond" to name a few) and it's these episodes that get it a place here.

  • Coming at fifth is Wolverine and the X-Men. I thought this was an entertaining show, it varied enough to stay interesting but had one main plot throughout which gave the show a sense of progression.
