Avengers Arena: Winner Or Loser?

Avengers Arena: Winner Or Loser?

BAD IDEA!

When avengers Arena lunched, and when i heard the concept of the plot, i had only one thing in mind, in fact i didn't even consider the possibilities, i just though " Will my Favorite Characters Survive?", or will they simply get killed off? then i came to the idea that this was probably some ruse marvel was using to make us think that teenage heroes would simply and mindlessly killed off, but in reality i though i was wrong, and this was for something much bigger. Naturally, as it happens most of the time, i was wrong , even in the very first issue, Mettle simply gets killed off, just like that. so This was marvel making a point that " Yeah, these characters will die, don't you dare think otherwise". Now, i got worried, i wanted my favorites to survive and win the experience, and from the beginning i was rooting for x-23, but right now, thanks to one of the blogs here on CV, and a few of my own thoughts i came to the conclusion that winning this survival game, would be terrible for the character. does that sound weird? well it shouldn't , because it's the truth. let me elaborate.

"Murder world", The place where this tournament is taking place, Is a place where one has to basically betray his own friends and well....murder them. what does that say about a character? is it good? is it bad? well if you think about it, the last one standing won't really be that character you love will it now? why? because they would have to murder everyone else, and thats not what a hero does. The character in question, about whom i am referring to is x-23.

First Off, Laura has gone through a lot of character development, she has found friends, and doesn't want to go back to mindless killing. At first i wanted her to win, but now that i think about it, her death, wold be much better, and here is why:

  • If Laura Kills her own friends she won't be that noble heroin i've come to know, she doesn't care about her own life, she doesn't see her self worthy of living, so if she kills to save her own skin than that will be extremely out of character.
  • If she dies, It will most probably be fighting for her friends, and we've seen her stick with her friends when they need her. even in avengers arena, when Justin attacks the others, it is clear that she is struggling to decide what to do.
  • If she Goes Into rage mode because of the trigger scent, and kills everyone because of that, the next writer will be forced to go through the "sick peppy routine" , which has been done to death.

If you ask me personally, the winner of murder world would be the biggest looser, because while they would be alive, they would also be terrible characters, and everything that made them good will be diminished my suggestion would be that you pray for a noble death, because right now such a death would be much better than a cowardly life. I hope x-23 does not survive this, if it means that her character would be secured, i prefer to die, at least that way she would not be ruined. And this isn't just about x-23 , any character who manages to pull a win would be completely ruined, because in order to win in these "Survival of the fittest" Scenarios one has to be a complete arse and Jerk, otherwise the'll die, so i really hope Hopeless has a plan of what he is doing, and maybe everything will work out.

probably not.

I'm still a whiney baby want to have my cake and eat it too. I don't want people to die and I don't want them horribly disfigured. I'd like it do be done away with.

It's been a disheartening journey. It really has. Everything I dreaded has come to pass and with the last issue -- I felt maybe I could be proven wrong, maybe things would turn out okay but I should have known better. While a piece of me was relieved they showed Laura more in character -- reaching out and helping out a friend and going over in her mind the rights and wrongs of things -- the end of the issue ended on an ugly note.

Hopeless confirming what fans find wrong with the series being the norm going forward just fills me with an almost apathy. I don't have any enthusiasm for the series and it being the only book in which I could read about X-23 just makes me...blegh. Full on blegh.

Great blog -- pretty accurate in surmising what most fans feel.

@lykopis: What happened!?

You can spoil for me, because I'm not gonna read it anyway, but other people might want you to blocker it or Private it.

I know how you feel :(, it's sad that the only good thing that can result from a title is death, makes me seriously angry( smash), unless hopeless has some SUPER DUPER PLANZ! than i don;t think this will be worthwhile -____-

Thanks for reading ^___^

A very well written piece mate. It's sad to see a writer manhandle and ruin cherished characters that fans have come to know and love for a cheap gimmick and to elicit the rage of the fans by having them hooked to see if their favourites survive. It's a poor way to tell a story if you have to resort to such tactics.

Meep, sorry for the late reply! **spanks self**

It has Laura walking around, internal dialogue running -- kind of running two conversations at the same time -- the assasisin/automatic one and the human/trying to be better one. She comes across a team mate who is fixing his sentinel that was destroyed -- he seems a bit off (paralyzed too from the looks of things) and after helping him, they set off except he is hell bent on attacking those he believes attacked him and it ends with Laura pretty much taking in the scene and acknowledging everything has deteriorated to a real dog eat dog type thing. Which leads the reader into thinking it's going to be a free for all here on in. :/

Oh well. It's happening whether we like it or not. All we can do is wait for the train wreck to happen, clear and move on.
