Why does this title have big sales? 1

This could be the best issue of Wolverine Origins so far. It's not because it's all that good, it's just that there's less stuff to complain about then usual. The flashbacks that plagued earlier issues in the series are completely gone now. It's almost a shame however, as that one the only real glimpse into Wolverine's past, but it was never executed properly. This issue is kept fairly simple, although a lot of the elements in the story make no sense. Wolverine breaks into a bank after hours... a...

They came from the 90s.... 0

I like the idea of the Loners, and yet it's the actual idea of it that keeps me from being totally interested in it. It's a support group for former super heroes that want to leave that life behind for various reasons. They are the bottom of the barrel, and that's one of the reasons they don't want to do it anymore. That's where the problem lies. If I didn't care about these characters in the 1990s, why would I care about them now? That's the challenge C.B. Cebulski has here. If he can make me c...

Jack O'Lantern has never been this entertaining. 0

While I praised Garth Ennis' Ghost Rider: Trail of Tears mini series for centering the story on other characters then Ghost Rider himself, I can't do the same thing with Daniel Way. The reason is, Ennis does it to tell a great story, while Way does it because he has nothing interesting to do with Johnny Blaze, or Ghost Rider for that matter. In Trail of Tears, Ghost Rider is a mystery and when he shows up in the story you know it's to inflict vengeance on someone. In this story, Ghost Rider isn'...

Could they have fit any more characters in this issue? 1

I found this issue to be little underwhelming. Everything from the big New Avengers/Mighty Avengers fight, to what followed after that. I think the main problem is that the Echo/Elektra/Hand plot is much more interesting then the flashbacks to how the team got there. The main problem with the flashbacks is that we already know that the whole team doesn't get captured by anyone, because they all make it to Japan a few days later trying to save Echo. The only thing that's interesting in the flashba...

Norman Osborn steals the show. 0

Norman Osborn is completely %$#&ing crazy and I'm enjoying every minute of it. Again I have to say that a lot of writers don't do Norman Osborn justice, but Warren Ellis is amazingly good at writing crazy. I can honestly say that I haven't enjoyed Osborn this much in years. He hasn't even made a single appearance in the series as the Green Goblin yet, and quite frankly I don't care. The Goblin could never show up, and it wouldn't hurt this series one bit.Because of Norman's obsession with Sp...

Is this book suppose to be THIS good? 1

You have a character that has been a C-Lister at best... joined by someone that has used that same identity in the past... fighting an organization that has been kicked around the Marvel Universe for decades... does this sound like it would make a good story arc? Of course not. So why is this one of the best books Marvel is putting out right now? You can probably put the blame on Matt Fraction, Ed Brubaker and David Aja.This is exactly how a C-List character should be brought back into the spotl...

The glory days of Excalibur might be a thing of the past 0

I always feel bad when I criticize Chris Claremont's writing. He is responsible for the most famous X-Men story ever told (and others), and also had a hand in co-creating some of people's favorite X-Men. The problem is it's come to a point where it's impossible not to criticize his work. The main problem is the dialog. It feels like a chore to read. This would have been great material back in the late 80s, but comic books have evolved since then, and sadly I don't think Claremont has. The story i...

Daniel Way wishes he could write something like this. 0

Anyone who thinks Garth Ennis is a one trick pony needs to read this series. Of course most Ennis fans already know that he can can and has written stuff like this before. He handles this series in a great way. Ghost Rider isn't the main character in this issue... in fact he hasn't been the main character in any of the issues. Instead he is handled like a force of nature that you never know where it is, or when it's going to strike again. The reader doesn't even know who the Ghost Rider is... alt...

Bruce Campbell and Zombies... what more do you want? 0

This series is simply trying to give you a fun read, and it succeeds. I mean if you're expecting great characterization and a complicated plot... while knowing full well that this is about Ash from the Evil Dead movies trying to survive Marvel Zombies... well your looking to be disappointed.Of course Ash isn't quite as funny as Bruce Campbell in Evil Dead II, but this is the character from the Army of Darkness comic books and not the movies. It's still the same character however, as Ash isn't qu...

Bendis at it again 0

Now this is how the first issue of a team book is done. Most of the time, the first issue of a team book is kinda boring as all they do is pick the team... and that's usually it. Bendis avoids this as the issue opens up with the team already formed and on their first mission with flashbacks to Tony Stark and Carol Danvers picking out the team. Which is great because as we all know, one of Bendis' strong points is dialog.I had my doubts about the team, but it all makes sense in the end. Something...

The worst of this series is still better then most 0

Fell is like a treat. You get great self contained stories, with minor sub-plots at a great price. Of course the story is only 16 pages, but you get that for $2.40 (CND). Even though the story itself is only 16 pages, Ellis doesn't waste anytime in his story telling. Most of his stories could easily be stretched out to 22 pages with what has become traditional comic book writing. Instead he doesn't waste any time, and doesn't waste the readers time with details that wouldn't be all that importan...

Enter Star Brand 0

This series thus far has been awesome. It looks like Warren Ellis has a very complicated story to tell, but he's taking his time to introduce everyone in the universe and the universe itself. This issue takes a break from John Tensen, the most developed character thus far, and centers on Ken Connell (Starbrand). He receives three visitors that offer up some answers for the confused Connell. Although most of the issue centers on this conversation, and the reveal at the end is kinda predictable... ...

Zombies everywhere!!! 0

This is the second coming of Watchmen! Ok... just kidding. Whenever I hear about a crossover between comic book characters and a licensed property I usually groan. These are usually total garbage. Do we need another X-Men/Star Trek crossover? This however totally works. Maybe being a fan of the Evil Dead films clouds my judgment, but having Ash in the Marvel Zombies Universe feels natural. Ash's humor is a perfect fit.Another thing that this series has going for it, is that everything is in conti...

Will the real Peter David please stand up? 0

Sandman and Spidey team up to investigate the murder of Uncle Ben from a future timeline. What does this have to do with the Back in Black banner plastered on the side of the issue? Well... Spider-Man is wearing his black costume, and umm... yeah that's about it.If Amazing Spider-Man #539 had come out before this storyline had started maybe Peter David would have been able to tell a story that was more compeling... but I have my doubts. Don't expect any explanation what-so-ever as to why Spider-...

On the verge of being great 0

One of the reasons I like this series so much is that Charlie Huston takes the material seriously, but at the same time has no delusions about Moon Knight's current position in the Marvel Universe. One police detective that helps him with some info comments "Other cops get maybe Spider-Man. I get the king of the rejects." I hated Moon Knight's last on going comic book that was in the ill fated Marvel Knights team book. I cannot express how much I hated his characterization in that book. He was l...

Emperor Hulk 0

Hulk is Emperor! Yeah that's about it for this issue. Hulk spends most of the issue cleaning up the planet... and ummm... yeah that's about it. It all feels really easy, and I'm not sure why this is suppose to be interesting. Maybe I'm being to harsh... but it's my review so feel free to disagree. It would have been far more interesting if Hulk would have some challenges "making peace", but it all comes off as very easy. The art is still good, and the writing is solid... it's just not a very inte...

Is this Civil War one-shot worth it? 0

Bendis, Ellis and Silvestri all in the same book? What could go wrong? Well it seems a lot.The art is great, the writing is solid... so what's the problem? Well all you're getting here is a story hyping up The Mighty Avengers, Thunderbolts and Omega Flight.First we get the Omega Flight story. Honestly this is the more interesting story as we finally find out if Alpha Flight did in fact die in the pages of New Avengers or not. We also find out the identity of one of it's members that actually com...

Change of artist at issue #3? 0

Is it a good sign when a mini-series has to use a different artist in the 3rd issue? On the first page I kept asking myself if the character speaking is suppose to be Pete Wisdom or someone else. Turns out it is suppose to be Wisdom... he must have just gotten his hair styled, and hit the gym quite a bit since issue #2.Manuel Garcia is by no means a bad artist, his take on Wisdom is just different then Trevor Hairsine's. This just causes a problem with consistency between the first 2 issues and ...

Beats the regular Ghost Rider series by a mile. 0

Not a fan of the current Ghost Rider series? Not a fan of Ghost Rider period? You should still give this mini-series a try.Issue #1 showed great potential for a story, but it looked like I knew where it was headed... now that I've read issue #2 I know that potential is being met, and I was totally wrong about knowing where the story was headed.Travis Parham has returned, looking for Caleb, the former slave that saved his life. Of course he doesn't find exactly what he's looking for. Again at the...

The women in the Punisher's life... 0

I will fully admit that I am biased when it comes to reviewing a Punisher comic book. Garth Ennis can almost do no wrong when it comes to writing Frank Castle in my eyes. Although I'll be the first to admit he has very little respect for the costumed crowd at Marvel, as evidenced when he used Daredevil, Spider-Man and Wolverine in Punisher (Marvel Knights). Thankfully we don't need to worry about that ever since this title was moved over to the MAX line. Some people complained when this storyline...

Stephen King + Marvel = Gold 0

I wasn't sure if this series could hold up the quality established from issues 1 and 2... but issue #3 is the best yet. While the first two issues introduced us to this world of gunslingers, wizards and monsters, issue #3 is where the story gets interesting.Roland and his crew finally meet the mayor of Hambry and the Big Coffin Hunters. You can feel the tension of their first meeting through the amazing artwork, and simply great writing. We also get to see what Roland's friends, Alain and Cuthbe...

Planet Hulk comes to a close... 0

The Planet Hulk storyline comes to a close with this issue. The closing moments of the issue are great, but everything leading up to it felt bit rushed. Maybe it was done because everything that happens is kinda predictable unless you've avoided the internet and have no idea what the next story arc (major event) is.With that said, it's still a good issue. With Planet Hulk coming to a close like this, no one could question Hulk's motivations for what will happen next. Although one would think if ...

Remembering a legend... 0

I was a little worried before reading this. Jeph Loeb's current Wolverine run and Onslaught Reborn have both done anything but impress me. Thankfully I was wrong to be worried. This is the first issue of Fallen Son that will be based on the 5 stages of grief. The first is denial, and Loeb picked the perfect character for this story. This is the logical way any fan would expect Logan to react to Captain America's death. Being screwed over by the government almost his entire life, Wolverine always ...

Enter Joss Whedon... 0

After over 40 issues written by Brian K. Vaughan, Joss Whedon has the impossible task of replacing him. I'm one of "those" people who actually enjoy his characterizations on Astonishing X-Men so I was looking forward to what he was going to do with my favorite teenage misfits.I've taking a look at various reviews before writing this, because I thought other people were seeing something that I was missing. Even though it's a good issue, I had several problems with it.The first problem I had that ...

We can now put that "other" Alpha Flight (2004) to rest. 0

Anyone remember the god awful Alpha Flight relaunch in 2004? If not you're very lucky. It was like they tried to create another Deadpool comic book minus any actual funny humor.Thankfully Omega Flight is nothing like that, although it's not without it's problems. Nothing major, in fact I can't help but think that this first issue was written when this was still suppose to be an ongoing series. See all those characters on the cover? Most of them aren't even in this issue. In fact the main charact...

Better, but still not great. 1

Don't ask me why I like the character of Ms. Marvel, or why I've stuck with this series so far because I'm not entirely sure. One thing is for certain however, the second year of this series is better then the first... just not great yet. Carol Danvers is now the leader of the Mighty Avengers, and she still acts unsure of herself all the time. This has been going on since issue #1, it's been over a year now... I think we can go past this plot now and move forward. This is the main stumbling bloc...

Great Potential 0

The potential for this series is limitless. With the end of Civil War, comes the 50 State Initiative. 50 teams for 50 states. First all these superheroes need to be registered and trained right? Well that's were this first issue starts. Will the entire series be centered on training these heroes? Who knows. You could have one story arc that centers on the training camp... another that centers on the team that's in Ohio... another on the team in California... and so on... and back to the training...

Still no answers... 0

This is the 3rd issue for Loeb and Bianchi, and it's the best one yet. However... I still didn't like it all that much. Although Wolverine and Sabretooth finally take a break from fighting for two straight issues, not much is offered as far as answers to anything.I thought Bianchi's art was actually better this issue, although some people don't like his style so it won't matter to them. The flashback (or dream) sequences look like something out of the movie 300. It fits the mood perfectly, even ...

Skip this and get Fantastic Four #544 0

Black Panther has been very hit or miss for me. There's nothing really wrong with it this month, but there's isn't much to write home about either. While Fantastic Four is on it's 2nd issue with Black Panther and Storm on the team... this issue of Black Panther is actually about how T'Challa and Ororo got to that point. Half the issue is about that... and the major problem is that it's not interesting... not at all. Last month it took one panel in Fantastic Four #543 to give us the same informati...

The New Team's First Adventure 0

After my disappointment in last months 45th Anniversary issue, and the intro of Black Panther and Storm to the team, I really didn't know what to expect this issue. I haven't been a big fan of those two characters in the pages of Black Panther for the last couple of months, and wasn't sure how I'd end up liking them in the FF. I don't know if it's McDuffie's writing, but I really didn't mind having them on the team and feel like it kinda works.I guess I thought that the FF book would end up bein...

The best yet? 0

Why can't Peter David be this good on all his books? Jamie Madrox's quest to find all his wayward dupes continues to be a great plot device. You never know what to expect each time he finds one. Even though his time with the dupe is shorter in this issue, I find it was even more interesting then the last issue. It also promises to bring about some new twists to the series. The Multiple Man's attitude and outlook on life almost steals the show from the story itself. I wish every X-Character that ...

Iron Fist is Back! 1

I usually hate stories that have multiple artists in the same issue. The end result is usually distracting and annoying. With that said... the total opposite happens with this book. Most of the artists compliment each other very well. Maybe it doesn't count as "one story" because Foreman, Fridolfs and Heath handle the flashbacks, it still feels like this is the same world, just a different time period. That of course being the desired effect. David Aja is however the superior artist here, and ha...

Getting Better 2

This is probably the best issue so far in this current series. It still has it's problems however. Probably the biggest problem is the fact that yet again... Ghost Rider is mistakenly identified as the criminal/villain. You can't start every story arc with Johnny Blaze being harassed by police because he just so happens to wonder in a town where a murder was just committed. The whole suspicious stranger in a small town can only be done so often.Although I will admit that the sheriff thinking Gho...

X-Factor Continues to Please 0

I find that when it comes to Peter David's writing, I usually hate it, or love it. Thankfully I can honestly say that he has done no wrong so far in X-Factor in my opinion. The book has managed to set itself apart from the other X-Titles while maintaining a constant quality every month. I'm not saying this is the best X-Title out there, but it is different and a nice change from the norm.Jamie Madrox is still on his quest to track down his missing dupes and absorb them again. That plot might see...

Great Mini Series 1

This whole mini-series has been a fun read from start to finish. I've never been the biggest Dr. Strange fan, so that statement is totally unbiased. I always thought the character was interesting, and was a cool supporting character... but main character? I couldn't see myself that interested as Strange's powers have never been clearly defined, so whenever he was in a jam... a writer could just make up a spell and presto! The good doctor is out of trouble.Vaughan avoids such easy tricks and tell...

Post Civil War Iron Man 0

I think this issue is a great jumping on point for anyone considering giving Iron Man a chance. It's the first "post-Civil War" issue, and sets up the new status quo for Tony Stark.Although the story doesn't ignore the past several issues, it's very reader friendly and gives a brief introduction to some supporting characters that not everyone would be familiar with if they haven't been reading Iron Man.Most of the story is told through Dugan's point of view, as he already has a few problems with...

Journey's End 0

I'm probably going to be biased here... having Neil Gaiman and John Romita Jr. on one comic book, it's hard not to be.Gaiman finishes off this mini-series along the same lines as he finishes some of his novels. It doesn't end with a giant climax, but rather ends after the climax, where the main characters have a chance to reflect on what has transpired, and where they should take things from here. Not to say there is no action in this issue, because there is... it's just not the "main attraction...

Civil War Aftermath 0

If by some miracle you do not know what happens in this book, then I suggest you go read it before it is spoiled for you... if you're lucky enough to find a copy that is. I won't spoil it here either, but I will say that this is a major comic book event, and I don't think that is an exaggeration.I'm not going to debate whether or not Marvel will undo what happens in this issue in a few years, and I won't debate if this was the right way to go either.Rather I'll review just this issue. Reading it...

Civil War Aftermath & 45th Anniversary 1

I feel like I should have liked this issue more then I did. Dwayne McDuffie has the hard task of writing the 45th Anniversary Issue of the Fantastic Four, while it also being the first Post-Civil War issue. He does manage to celebrate the FF while moving the story forward all at the same time. The tribute in McDuffie's story is mostly handled in a "Lateline" look back at the Fantastic Four. It's a documentary style special that Ben, Johnny and the kids are watching on TV. While it is nice to see ...

Can't get enough 0

I've never read anything in The Dark Tower series of books so far, so I'm reviewing this purely on a comic book stand point. I truly have no idea if it does the books justice or not. I can honestly say however so far I'm blown away. I almost passed on this mini-series all together thinking it was just a gimmick and not much effort would be put into it because it was going to sell no matter what because Stephen King's name is on it.So far I'm totally engrossed in the story of the young gunslinger...
