Being read the Riot Act 0

After flying thru and finishing the first five issues of this new volume of Daredevil ,Chip Zdarsky really has put our hero in a new realm of hell. How he survived all of it is a wonder and luckily for DD it ends with his friends saving his bacon. I do love the dialogue between Daredevil and his Marvel Universe guest stars in this issue. Luke Cage Danny Rand and Jessica Jones really come to rescue the man without fear from himself . They try to give him a talk about being where he’s at and it ...

RED SKULL is dead? 0

Just read OUT OF TIME part 2 and we still don't know yet who's the real threat. I love the fact that we truly are on this adventure with CAP and all the answers to the questions aren't forthcoming as we might like them to be ! Is the Red Skull truly dead? Will the threat he posed continue without him? Who has the cosmic cube and what will they do with it? We visit the Red Skulls autopsy and his murder scene. We are in CAPS nightmares and see what truly haunts this man out of time. Some might t...

A Captain in Character 0

This story is called "OUT OF TIME" part 1and the cover communicates whats inside the issue with dramatic effect and the inside doesn't disappoint for a second. Red Skull S.H.I.E.L.D. and our hero Captain America. I read this issue fairly quickly so i read it again before writing this review. I have to say from the start that Steve Epting's art with the help of colorist Frank D'Armata gives us a film noir feel which lends itself perfectly to whats going on here in Ed Brubaker's writing which is...

THOMAS WAYNES Batman 0

Thomas Wayne is BATMAN. This is the first of three issues and it cuts to the chase as far as Thomas Wayne's characteristics go. Brian Azzarello's brings characteristics to Thomas Wayne that have been seen before and is very reminicent of the retired Bruce Wayne in Frank Millers The Dark Knight. Thomas Wayne's Batman is darker though than Bruce's, if it can be imagined, it has been through the writers ability and Eduardo Risso's art. Thomas' pain of losing a son represents a different drive here ...

Not so Dreadful Dear Joker 0

Writer Len Wien along with artist Walt Simonson and inker Dick Giordano start the 80's Batman off with a party . Specifically Jokers birthday party. This self contained one issue story is a good one.  It's definitely entertaining as Len Wein seems to have Batmans formula down as he employs the usual Jokers tricks like a fake hands up his sleeve and popguns that kill. Yes there are some trappings that seem so ridiculous to todays readers like the Joker -Mobile and mounting the Dark Knight on top ...

Typical Teamup 1

This story begins with Catwoman stealing a briefcase containing files on the Kingpin. Batman tries to stop the drop off but  DD intervenes  the Batman's attempt  to bring them all in and unwillingly alerts Catwoman. The two masked men take down the goons on the roof but Catwoman gets away after flirting with DareDevil. Turns out the goons were working for Scarecrow. Catwoman evades the costumed heroes search and delivers the files to the Scarecrow. The Batman and DareDevil work togeth...

Boring Ballgame 3

I really liked the cover here.Tim Bradstreet does an amazing job on the cover which may be the reason I was attracted to this issue. Bullseye Perfect Game's is far from it. It's dialogue drags on through the issue and takes to long to get to the point .I know a perfect game is an incredible feat in baseball but it's a boring game when no one is hitting  Writer Charlie Huston's  story is just okay as his  narrator is a baseball historian/card collector in a wife beater. The narrattor basically e...

Exorcizing DareDevil 1

I wasn't amazed or blown away here at all. I don't know if  SHADOWLAND 's 5 part series could possibly end well. It does give in to some surprising situations but it does have some disappointing ones too. It leaves a lot of questions unanswered too like i'm sure it's supposed to. DareDevil / The Beast has taken down most of the Marvel's superhero lot who have appeared in the series. Just when it looked like there wasn't  anyone else to battle Lord DareDevil the Beast, Ghost Rider  brings it on ...

The Big Catch-UP 0

This one shot may slow you down and scratch your head.  Maybe its Emma Rios' art or  Zeb Wells' framing of the story but  the flashbacks and telling whats going on presently as you read this issue became a job for me on my first initial read and impression of this Shadowland tie in. I had to read this issue twice before i felt like it fit in SHADOWLAND and go over DareDevil Shadowland issues to figure out where aach scene belongs chronologically. Now I get it ! This issue comes after DareDevil ...

Batman Pulls The Old Switcheroo 2

Denny O'Neil writes a fine story for this confrontation between Two Face and the Batman. Two-Face plans to blow up Washington DC with an atomic bomb came from his cohort General Harris as they escaped from Arkham Asylum together. The General hated America and what it has become. Harris thought he needed Harvey Dent's genius to pull the plan off. He believed that a nuclear threat would wake up America and together he and Two-face would make a killing on the healthy ransom. General Harris eventua...

Everyones Afraid Of Something 0

The Ghost Rider is pissed as he rides up the side of a New York Skyskraper to have it out with the Kingpin. The Kingpin is nonplussed when Ghost Rider arrives and continues drinking his scotch. This one shot issue continues from Shadowland # 3. It's art by Clayton Crain is very impressive. The confrontation between Ghost Rider and Kingpin we knew was coming and it is mostly predictable. Ghost Rider is being manipulated and controlled already by the Kingpin through Hand magic. The Kingpin knowing...

Matt Murdock ..The Master Of KungFu ? 1

I just don't know about this series. Either some heroes aren't being portrayed correctly here or DareDevil is gaining power from someone.  Perhaps both. Someone has literally taken control over DareDevil spirit and mind and enhanced his abilities.  I love action but Billy Tan's art work on the action scenes doesn't have  the flow where it should, especially when DD takes on Shang Chi and Iron Fist and defeats them both!?!?  Later Iron Fist consoles Shang -Chi when he claims "I am no longer the M...

Quesada's DareDevil 0

Joe Quesada writes and pencils the mini series DareDevil: Father. This the first of six issues starts out rather slow. It's Father's day and Matt  Murdock talks of his Father as he bounds over rooftops of Hells kitchens the costumed man without fear DareDevil. He draws comparisons between father and son for the first 16 pages and doesn't really deliver any new information on their relationship. Quesada's art is just ok here as I feel his art leaning towards  Bill Sienkiewicz's  style. Nothing in...

Bad news from the Astral Plane 1

In this issue no one wins.  You knew Bendis wouldn't have it any other way. He did it to DareDevil why wouldn't he do it to the Avengers. Bendis shatters the Avengers to the core here. As Dr Strange appears to the Avengers from an astral plane, he puts us in the know if not at ease. It turns out one the Avengers own is responsible for all the death and destruction. The Doctor tells them It is a member who was part of the original Brotherhood of Evil Mutants . At first the Avengers don't believ...

"Chaos" is Definitely Chaotic. 0

This third issue of "Chaos" certainly feels like a sci-fi /disaster film but I maybe having trouble with this Bendis' blockbuster.  At the beginning of this issue many of the former Avengers have showed up at  the destroyed Avengers mansion. They answered the call for help. Nick Fury is thankful at first then he turns surly because as they showed up, they ruined the delicacy of the crime scene.  In essence ruining an investigation that didn't even begin. Gone are the clues of who's behind al...

A Bad Day 0

Bendis  and Finch continue to beat up on the Avengers in this issue.  Captain America is seriously getting his ass handed to him by an out of control, fully enraged She-Hulk until iron Man saves his bacon not too long after Tony Stark has lost his position as secretary of defense because of the drunken display earlier at the UN. The issue does deliver great action but it leaves a few of the Avengers hospitalized. The song "Bad Day" comes to mind as Hawkeye constantly reminds us here during his ...

Hangin In 0

This issue has a great beginning but despite bringing last issues amazing cliffhanger to a close , this issue left me kinda flat. It may be the calm before the storm. It is only the third chapter. It's not to say that the issue doesn't have any standout moments. It does, but the moments are lighter. The talk between Master Izo and DareDevil for me is the best part of the issue. DD has yet to figure out what Izo meant at the end of their conversation. DD hasn't resolved any of the same issues wit...

Diggle and Tan's Shadowland 0

Shadowland is a quick read. It's definitely the first drop of Andy Diggle's rollercoaster that represents DD's ongoing life as the head of the Hand. I don't know if these big events write themselves or not  but this comic came way too easy.  It gives us what we want maybe all too fast. Bullseye's helicopter escape seems too familiar.  Bullseye doesn't waste time heading for Hells kitchen. DareDevil and the Hand  now reside in the massive temple built in place of the building Bullseye demoli...

Forcing DareDevil's Hand 0

This one shot issue of DareDevil shows the effect DARK REIGN has on DD's life. DD is afraid to make a mistake and is extremely cautious, as he tries to accept his new mantle as master and leader of the Hand. He basically accepted the position to keep the HAND from being under control of the Kingpin. But when it rains it pours, as Bullseye is unleashed on DD decision making process forcing his hand (no pun intended). Bullseye makes a point that DD  still won't kill and until he crosses that line ...

The Crime of the Unreported Crime 0

Frank Miller likes to put us in our place or maybe just Matt Murdock. Miller takes a story of a crime committed  to  Becky Blake, Matts legal aide,  by a man 3 years ago that left her paralyzed and puts it in Matt Murdock's lap to see what will happen. What really makes it burn is when she tells Matt that  the crime was never reported. Matt wants to help her but can't understand why she didn't report the crime. Thats only the half of it, in this story everyone becomes a victim.  Melvin Potter ...

The Stream of Life 0

Thor has "stepped outside the stream of life ",to use his own words, as this annual finds the God of Thunder trying to get a way from it all in the mountains of Warren, Oklahoma. Lord Seth plans to take advantage of Thor's mental state after the recent events in Thor's monthly mag, where the mighty Thor has killed his Grandfather and has since been banned from Asgard. Thor is not doing well here. His confidence and self worth are at an all time low but you should never kick The God of Thunder  w...

The ONE SHOT Anniversary. 0

Wolverine: The Anniversary was released today on Marvel Digital Comics unlimited. So, since the majority of the digital releases today starred Wolverine, my choice wasn't too hard. What drew me to this particular issue was the great cover and that it's a one shot. I know some comic readers don't waste their time with annuals or one-shots but I have to say this one-shot turns out to be a  really good read. Jonathan Mayberry writes the first story here called"Ghosts". The ghost in particular th...

GANG WAR 0

Upon reading "Gang War", the last of a 3 issue arc written by and drawn by Frank Miller ,I have to say he owns us. It's funny after rereading this story, how DD can hold his breath and navigate the NYC water system. Happy is he to be breathing even the fowl air around the vagabonds as he pulls his body thru the water pipelines. Theres a great scene in Josie's bar where DD  shows up quite alive much to Turks dismay. Turk ends up working for DareDevil. The gang war is brewing on the streets of NY...

Kingpins clutches 0

Well I have to tell you Frank Miller brings his game up a notch with every issue of DareDevil. I am rereading Frank Millers famous run on Marvel Digital Comics unlimited. The color is amazing. The art is raw and energetic. Frank tells the story with some humor. Turk I have to say is too much. I even feel for Josie whose bar window has patrons crashing thru it more than she likes. Kingpins right hand man Lynch  is seconds away from having his neck snapped for trying the Kingpins patience. DareDev...

Beware of Darkness 0

I am thankful that in this issue we find DareDevil hasn't succumbed to the dark side completely yet. Here we find DD having lucid dreams of all his former loves (Dakota, Milla, Elektra). They try to warn DD to save himself as he falls into the depths of hell. This sounds like pretty good advice although it may have come too late. Waking up and realizing it was a dream, DD is sitting on a throne ( similar to the one you would find Lucifer on ) surrounded by the Hand. Diggle redeems himself and ...

The Joker always loses to the Dynamic Duo because of the dreaded utility belt.  Not to be out done, the Joker decides to create one for himself . Joker doesn't waste time putting it to use. It fowls up the Batman and Robin enough to avoid capture several times. The Joker's inventiveness surprises even himself at points. Dick Sprang's art is definitive for Batman in the Fifties along with Bill Fingers story. This issue may have along with other classic stories of the time inspired the classic an...

DIGGLE & DE LATORRE"S DAREDEVIL 0

Just when you thought you knew your main character, Diggle takes over and turns everything on its head. I have just finished reading this story on Marvel Digital comics and I don't like what i'm seeing and reading. Let me tell you it doesn't bode well for DareDevil or anyone in Hell's Kitchen. Before I tell you of my frustrations with the writing direction on DD, I have to tell you that Roberto De La Torre's art is great. He does tell the story well and has two amazing splash pages on the titl...

ASTONISHING X-MEN 0

I just read this in Marvels digital comics library and I have to say I like the introduction to this X-men series. Writer Joss Whedon hits all the right marks setting up our return along with Kitty's to the X-men mansion as a teacher and councelor. Joss keeps it real by letting the new students of this gifted school know that they are never truly safe as Emma Frost's  hologram of the Sentinals instills fear of an all too real threat to the group gathered in the danger room.  I love that Emma Fro...

An Epic Silver Age Battle 0

Who's stronger Thor or Hulk ? Till this very day we  still want to know. Many fans have probably asked that very question many times to Stan Lee. Well, Stan does his best to answer that question here.  Stan always had unique approach to his storytelling and here it is no different.  Stan uses his fans argument to frame the story. Thor takes time to break up an argument, between the young men at the onset of the story and helps resolve it. We are those young men. In this issue Thor retells his ...

A Taste Of Whats To Come" 0

Here we find DareDevil very much like Hell Kitchens friendly  neighborhood Hornhead.  He's feeling pretty good about himself. DD befriends an older gentleman going for a jog and ends up racing him. He then shows off his physical prowess by running up to the top of Canal Street Bridge and jumping off it then saving himself with his trusty billy club. Later he hits up Turk for the current talk on the street after stopping him from hijacking a taxi cab. In Japan we see Wilson Fisk tal...

Devils Everywhere 4

Devils, Devils! Everywhere Devils. This issue is great DD fun.  DareDevil must use his abilities to locate Bullseye, save the hostages he's holding and save Bullseye from himself. Turns out Bullseye has a brain tumor that  must be excised. The tumor causes headaches that cause Bullseye to have hallucinations where everyone he sees come in the form of his most dreaded and hated foe ,DareDevil ,of course.  The problem is Bullseye has one of these headaches right before he is supposed to get his m...

Ultimate or Elseworlds 0

I decided to check out this ULTIMATE mini series because of recent review with G-MAN and BABS and also because Greg Rucka's writing has never been disappointing. The fact is ,DareDevil and Elektra are two of my favorite characters in the Marvel Universe. This lead off issue is not really filled with alot of action but rather establishes a group of close knit young woman attending college.  It was placed with a ULTIMATE label which I agree with former review it probably shouldnt have...

Millers Magic 1

This issue starts the beginning of Frank Millers run as writer/artist and introduces his character named ELEKTRA.   Millers art is amazing in this issue as he creates the noir feel complete with foreign intrigue. I remember being impressed with this comic and loving the Elektra character almost immediately. Miller is building and using more re-occurring cast members namely Ben Urich Turk and Eric Slaughter. Miller sets up a flashback that works well at introducing  Elektra one of his own, self ...

Theres alligators in the sewers 0

I liked this issue of DareDevil . It finally let us know what happened to Vanessa Fisk the Kingpins wife from when she disappeared back in issue 171. Ben Urich looks quite alive after surviving last issues attack by the deadly assassin Elektra. Despite not really seeing Ben in hospital , his stay there was given a brief honorable mention. There was a funny scene at beginning of this issue with DareDevil on ledge of building with a cast on listening to Turk inside. When DareDevil came crashing in...

Bullseye Brings it On 1

This  issue culminates Frank Miller's vision which started with issue 168.  We have been invested since Elektra has been introduced.  Miller is great at creating atmosphere and driving the stories action with his  cinematic ability to convey the story through his storyboards and breakdown on the comic page. The storyline could be The GOOD THE BAD AND THE UGLY IN HELLS KITCHEN. The battle is climatic in every sense and one indeed dies. Miller puts us in Bullseyes mind in this issue. He treats us t...

Living up to the Hype 0

Just finished the first issue of Civil War on Marvels Digital comics unlimited  on the web.WOW would be an understatement ! I'm not usually a big fan of a group of heroes working together ,but here I finally decided to read what all the fuss was about. The issue starts off crazy. Disaster in Stamford Connecticut , caused by Nitro by a school kills hundreds. All for the sake of a tv reality show based on skirmishes between good and bad super folk. Namely the New Warriors and the recently escaped ...

Iron Man... an Alcoholic? 1

First off if that cover don't grab you ,then I don't know what will? This Iron Man run written by David Michelinie from 118- 154,  I think is and represents the Definitive Iron Man for me. John Romita Jr's  art inked by Bob Layton is tremendous. This particular issue came as a surprise. It definitely brings the real drama that alcoholism brings to the table. To think that one our favorite heros could possibly have this disease is horrific. Not only does he endangers himself ,he endangers everybod...

Introducing Ras Al Ghul 0

This Classic 70's Tale of the Batman introduces Ras Al Ghul. Easily one of the best villians in the Batman Rogues Gallery. Ras appears out of the darkness of the Batcave with his faithful bodyguard Ubu along side him. He comes to Batman not as a villian but as an ally in search of his daughter who Batman had met several issues earlier. Ras has had his organization investigate that he and Bruce Wayne are one in the same.He asks for his assistance in finding both Robin and Talia. The tale revisits...

Building on the Batmans Origin 0

Through the Batman and Dark Knight archives, I have gotten a chance to read the books I could never afford. The early Batman  and Detective comics had a quality that is so appealling there is no wonder this character has endured as long as he has. "The First Batman" lends itself to the Batmans origin story 8 years prior where Joe Chill was named the killer of Bruce Waynes parents. Here building on that classic Batman issue #47 we find that Bruce has found his fathers diary and clues to reopen hi...

Can't Top the Laughing Fish 1

If the Colonel can have his chicken, why can't the Joker have his fish?  They have his looks, his smile. That is the question writer Steve Englehart poses as The Joker manages to outsmart the Batman several times and reveals himself only (after he has killed enough of the employees’ of the copyright commission) when he is ready. Englehart concludes his brilliant run with this the 1st of a 2-part Joker-Fish story. Although his run lasted only 7 issues from issue #469- #476, it left an indelible...
