While looking for something with Google images I came across a site in Chinese, wondering what it was I took a look and after using their translation program found that was a listing of “the 20 coolest superheroes costumes.”

It had the 20 along with a little about each.

The bit I found interesting was how some of the characters names came back from their Chinese translation, sure these translation programs are problematic at best, but I figure it was probably at least close.

Many, such as Superman, Batman, Spawn, Iron man, Sandman and Spider man came back like we are use to, some however were a little odd such as:

Space Ghost = The Ghost of the Universe

Dr. Strange = blame Dr. Ling (Huh?)

Aquaman = Sea Prince

Captain Marvel = Captain Fantastic

The Phantom = The Mirage

Captain America = The U.S. Captain

The Rockiteer = One Rocket

The Punisher = To punish those who deserve it

The Shadow = The shadow of Xia

Green Lantern = The Green Light

The Flaming Carrot = The Flame Carrot

And the strangest one of all

Wolverine = Wolf King Kong

No kidding, I’m assuming that king kong is like a stand-in for monster?

So he’s the wolf monster?

Works for me.

Okay, here’s a premise, a new comic sort of like Brave & Bold is started, only it lets team-ups between companies, but there is a second theme.

The comic is called Odd Couples and the team-ups are between two characters that almost certainly should NEVER team up.

Why do this?

Why not?

Its comic books, if you’re looking for logic try math.

Here is a panel from the first issue.

Whom would you team up?

Scarlet Witch, Beast          Marvel

Elastigirl                               Pixar

Superman and Doctor Strange

The Human Torch and Ice Man = Steam Man

Swamp Thing and Robotman

Jerry Lewis (DC version), the Hulk and Batman   because trying to put those together in one character makes my brain feel strange

I‘m just pulling this up from memory from long ago, but I think it was Kurt Russell who said “It doesn’t make any difference if it’s a great film, or junk, in ten years it’ll just be another old movie.” *

These day however it seems they become `just another old movie’ somewhere between 10 months and a year and a half!

My question is, in the world of comics how long does it now take trend or innovation to become cliché, overused, and / or old hat?

You know, like when the Silver Age turned to bronze and “superheroes with problems” lost it’s edge after around 10 years, or when the “grim and gritty” look at an old character just not tedious, what did that take? 8 years? 6? I know it was real fast for me.

These days what do you think is the general shelf life of a change, be it to a character or a whole universe, before it’s “oh… THAT again?”

*At least I think Kurt Russell said it, I looked for the original quote but could not find it.
