I think the fact that they gave him his own title is just a consequence of not knowing what to do with the character. I don't see why he couldn't remain on GLC, have John be the GL representative on the Justice League (which would grant them that diversity they want so badly and keep characters who have no place in the League, like Cyborg, from being shoehorned in.) and let Hal have his own book.
His costume has even been changed to resemble Hal's more. Sure, the previous version was pretty awful (Jim Lee loves to add his superfluous flourishes.) but why not give him a distinctive look? Guy and John both have their own style of costume, but Kyle essentially wears a knock off of Hal's.
I guess I should be glad he's even still around, unlike Wally West et al.
I think DC is not terribly attached to its own continuity. Marvel is really more of the idea that all of the stories are classic and necessary, probably because of the reverence for Stan Lee, but DC will wipe out decades on a whim. The characters accumulate so much baggage over the years that things need to be shifted around a bit. The timeline for the DCU really needed to be set in stone, because it became really confusing. Like, Birthright was supposed to be a while ago, but the characters had cell phones identical to when the book came out. Knowing that the Justice League formed five years ago is great. DC does this all the time, so yeah, I think it was inevitable.
Nobody was looking at Superman's face; the red shorts were there specifically to draw eyes to his crotch (which I assume must be -ahem- "impressive"). Now that the re-design has eliminated the trunks, I don't know what's going to happen.
Well, Justice League #2 implies that he doesn't have the Fortress of Solitude yet, but in Supergirl #2 she says he sounds like he learned Kryptonese from a text book. Also, in Action #2 he finds the ship, which speaks to him, so I'm wondering if he learns about Krypton from there rather than in the Fortress. (I would personally prefer if the Fortress is something he builds himself, rather than being crystal grown or whatever.) On top of that, the color scheme of the rocket makes me wonder if his suit of armor will actually be formed from the spacecraft itself.
@THEBlaqueBasterd: That was a joke. I was just trying to illustrate how ridiculous setting another CAP movie in World War 2 would be with an even more ridiculous premise.
