Fleshing Out Ibuki 0

Ibuki continues her adventures through high school, as well as keeping her life as a ninja secret from her classmates.    The Good As always for Udon, the art here is simply incredible. Keeping the look from Street Fighter IV as well as adding their own manga-inspired asthetics, Udon (Omar Dogan on art this time around) continue to impress me with each comic they release. I don't often buy comics for the art alone but I do when it comes to Udon.  The writing itself is pretty standard. We learn m...

Justifying Or Hurting Rescue? 2

The Good When Pepper Potts received the Rescue armoured suit way back when Tony Stark was still turning into a vegetable fugitive in Invincible Iron Man, I never thought the change would last. While Pepper has been a great support character to Stark for most of his career, she never seemed like she could handle herself as a superhero. If this issue does one thing, it justifies her motivations to become a hero. We get an explanation about why she feels the need to help others that doesn't revolve...

Lizard Nation 0

The Good It's great to see the Lizard again. While Conners has been a frequently recurring character in Amazing Spider-Man, it seemed like it was only a matter of time until he became the Lizard again. To finally let it happen, and so close to the end of the Gauntlet too, really shows that the Lizard could achieve star billing as a Spider-Man villain yet again. I particuarly liked the last few panels. Very dark things happen, which is quite daring for a series based on Marvel's premiere hero.  I...

Losing Faith... 0

The Good Mark Millar continues to have a very cool writing style. He suits the Ultimate Universe to a tee with his very modern dialogue and edgy approach to these characters. I particularly like the idea of the Punisher becoming somewhat like a new Captain America. Quite ironic. The art by Leinil Yu is also up to the usual Ultimates standard (it's very good).   The Bad The Ultimate Universe is splintering into two very distinct camps in my eyes. On one hand, you have Bendis holding down the fort...

Definitely Not For Vegetarians 0

The Good John Layman's Chew is one of the great secrets of the comic world. This issue continues to establish the series as something to be reckoned with. John Layman's flair for dialogue shines through here, with every character shining with wit and personality. At first, I was apprehensive about adding a vampire into the story but once we discover the origin of the character, it makes a lot of sense. There continues to be some great gross out moments, such as what happens to a certain cook... ...

Stumbling Block 0

The Good Bendis has successfully steered the main Marvel Universe into a much more optimistic place. As promised in the promotion for the Heroic Age, everything about Avengers #1 sparkles with old-school style superhero optimism. Even the threat brought to the Avengers by Kang seems almost old-school in its cheesiness, full of time travel and other fun nonsense. John Romtia Jr. supports the series well by using his playful artwork to evoke a feeling much like the old Avengers comics of the 60s-7...

All Bow To The Great Matt Fraction 0

Invincible Iron Man is the best mainstream comic going at the moment. Hands down. Nothing, that I've read at least, can come close to how Matt Fraction has handled Tony Stark over the last couple of story arcs. The strength in the series is how far the creative team have gone to breaking down the Tony Stark we once knew and rebuilding him into an exciting character once again. Its been a painful ride to this point but I feel it's finally time to celebrate. Iron Man is back, and he's already ten ...

As Solid As Ever 0

When I got back into comics, the reason was Walking Dead. No other series commands my attention as much as this one. I used to travel the not-inconsiderable distance from my small town to the nearest comic shop in order to purchase each issue, never regretting it for an instant. I guess the reason I'm saying all this is because you may find a slight bias in this review. I'll try to stay neutral as well as I can.  The survivors of Walking Dead have had quite a journey. Although this series is kno...
