Yeah... what were those comic writers thinking?

Gawd, some people will project so much scripted hate onto anything just to conform with the other stylish band-wagoners.
Zack Snyder a hack? Right, because Watchmen was so very commercial, and there were just SO many changes made to the story in an effort to appeal to a larger, teenage audience.... is that right?
Seems all anyone can complain about is his use of slow motion. And with that implemented in a Superman movie (are we forgetting how much slow-mo Singer used in "Returns"?), I don't see why that would be a problem.

Anyways, now I'm actually interested. Before I had been a bit annoyed at the idea of Christopher Nolan "mentoring" the project soley because of his success with a COMPLETELY different character, and as such, thought we'd be seeing something really low-key with some poor attempts at drama and lots of people shouting questions at other people as they walk away.

If there is any concern for this project, it should be regarding what kind of story we are going to see adapted in any relative capacity. Is this going to be in any way related to the Donner/Lester/Singer franchise? Will Superman have the power to alter Lois' memory just by kissing her? Will this be an action-packed revamp/reboot similar to Abram's Star Trek? If so, what kind of characters will be introduced, if any, that have yet to appear in a Superman movie? Will we finally see Brainiac? If so, will he actually be Brainiac or some "ghost in the machine" artificial intelligence gone wrong? Will Lex Luthor be the villain who we just NEVER get tired of (sarcasm), or will there be other criminal organizations at large like Intergang? What will be the focus? I'd prefer an action flick. I don't want to see the Man of Steel in an almost muted capacity, spending the entire movie trying to understand why Lois rejected him. I want something we haven't seen before, much like a lot of people want to see something new in the next Batman outing.

And since Snyder is an expert at action, I'm left hopeful.

Kind of disappointed. She has a voice that seems on-par with a life of cigarettes, and though it's shallow, I don't think she's at all attractive.

I tend to think that Bruce is a non-personality. As in, just about anyone with a vacant expression can play him. I also liked Bana AND Norton's depictions, pretty much equally. Norton, I actually had a bit of a problem with because he just couldn't make eye-contact with any other actor... and while I guess the script called for Bruce to be brooding, I'd rather see him as someone who hasn't had a bad day every day of his life.
Mark Ruffalo, while an accomplished actor, tends to play these types. The kind who emulate the characters around them and appear "mild-mannered" but really and truly have very little depth to their personality. If I was worried about anything, it would be that Mark Ruffalo will end up playing Edward Norton, but it's not that big of a deal to me. As G-Man said, there really isn't a DEFINITIVE Bruce Banner out there. As he's just one actor in a mix of so many (strong) personalities, I'm not looking to expect too much or too little.

Not only would this really work around Ryan Reynolds (which sounds kind of silly at first but makes a bit more sense if you think about it), but also reach into the larger fanbase as well as serving as a bit of experimentation. Not everyone likes Hal Jordan the best.... I daresay John and Kyle are my favorites. If it was only Hal for three movies straight, I think people would be wanting more. Same for John, Kyle, and Guy.
Having John would also be a good push for Star Sapphire and Katma, although I kind of hated those comics - it is what it is.

It's funny. I would have enjoyed it as well, probably even more than the finished cut. Of course, the puking noises over-dubbing the Marvel logo would have been awkward, but ah well.

Going after loved ones? If I were someone as powerful as Superman without the moral limitations... then it would be the supervillains who would have to worry about coming into contact with them. Like, oh dang, the Prankster just came within a block of my sister.... time for an a$$-whoppin'.
I think it would be much akin to a child-molester or the like who has to introduce himself as such to the neighborhood as part of his/her probation.
And I don't think it would stop with my identity being known to the world... pretty much everyone associated with me... I mean the media and paparazzi would do the job for me a million times over.

Heh, reminds me of a part from the Justice League episode "Only a Dream" where Batman's having trouble staying awake driving the Batmobile and pulls into a "Coffee Shop" where he cuts in line, slaps a bunch of cash on the counter, and bellows: "I need a triple shot of espresso..... NOW!"

Even though I was beginning to appreciate Diedrich Bader, I still agree that Kevin Conroy IS the voice of Batman as well.

Overrated

  • Wolverine - He was great in the 80s, even after her got his own series. Then, like any successful financial beast, he is pushed every which way to the point of being THE most identifiable X-Men character for kids... as demonstrated recently by being the only X-Men character in McDonald's Marvel Superheroes Happy Meal toys. The X-Men movies and cartoons revolve around him, and when Marvel vs Capcom 3 was announced, he was the first (and still as of now, the only) X-Men character to be present. If he wasn't shoved down my throat so much, I might have a bit of an appreciation for the character today, but no dice.
  • Hulk - I'm with the camp who still to this day, defends the Ang Lee film from cutthroat fans of the Green Goliath, even with the mediocre acting. Having not picked up a single Hulk comic beforehand, and knowing just a few staples in his mythos, I thought that this is how the Hulk should be explored when I watched it. Then I got curious and did a little borrowing from the library... and wow was I disappointed. It's like Kirby and Lee created the Hulk for the purpose of selling him on Looney Tunes or Pink Panther. Even with some semi-recent stories like Planet Hulk and World War Hulk, I can't help but think that the Hulk is a one-dimensional vehicle for smashing things, and wonder why he is so popular even today.
  • Batman - The Dark Knight will always be overrated, just like Frank Miller's renditions will always be super-violent, and just as Bruce Wayne will always be Batman. There isn't a DC character with a higher Q rating than Batman, and while no one can ever take the place of him, I think I can only handle so much. As noted, I really tend to enjoy comics that are self-contained, not just because they're easier to get a hold of, but because the characters within that comic will follow the great plans and interpretations that that particular creative team has in store for them. In short, I don't like seeing Batman get his back broken only to return to crime-fighting a year later, and I don't like seeing the Bat-Family fight over his title after he's zapped through time and presumed dead, only for him to return to Gotham a year later.
  • Deadpool - I did not read the Deadpool of the 90s. What drew me to Deadpool about 5 or 6 years ago was the constant parody of other devices in comics that some writers take a bit too seriously. You don't have to know anything about his early appearances or even his origin story to enjoy this one-dimensional vehicle for humor. Unfortunately, like any good joke, when you tell it too often, or when it is used by too many people, it starts to get a bit annoying and will occasionally change shapes to suit the person telling it. I still enjoy Deadpool, but only when I pick up HIS comic.
