Stan Lee's cameos, in my opinion are illustrating an old man's love for the characters of the film. There hasn't been a single appearance of his that has warranted outrage or indignation from fans and non-fans alike. It's not like he was among the crowd of New Yorkers in the first Spider-man movie who started pelting Osborn with crap in the middle of a fight scene....
So far his biggest and most important cameo has been in the Incredible Hulk - a role that could have been played by any actor or extra, so why not put him in there?

Do I think cameos are too distracting? Nope. I loved Bruce Campbell's appearances in the Spider-man movies, I thought it was only fitting that Lou Ferrigno appear in some form for both Hulk movies and had to smile when Bill Bixby flashed on the tv for a moment.

With Nick Fury, I don't see it as a cameo. The Marvel movies are being made into on-screen comic books with its own established universe. This is a supporting character in the universe, fulfilling his role from the comics. Even though Samuel L Jackson just plays himself.... just like Robert Downey Jr....

I see your points, but I still find a lot of these stories interesting.
I love, and I mean LOVE Darwyn Cooke's "New Frontier", even though it is entirely out of continuity and the ending has absolutely zero impact on other comics. I'd wager a lot of stories written to stand on their own are much more interesting than those meant to "fill the gaps" or bridge two big ones. I have every single Loeb/Sale Batman trade, even the Catwoman "When In Rome" series, and although the exposition isn't all-important, I obviously enjoyed all of them enough to buy them after having checked them out from the library.
Darwyn Cooke and Tim Sale teamed up to do a confidential series with Superman as a semi-sequel to "For All Seasons", found in trade as "Kryptonite". Three things are going on in the story.
Lex is testing Superman's limitations.
A hidden alien "observer" has moved to Metropolis disguised as a reformed crime boss.
Superman comes in contact with Kryptonite for the first time.
No, Lex isn't the one who exposes Superman to rock from Krypton. No, this alien observer isn't the malovelent Brainiac, nor a benevolent Martian Manhunter. In actuality, these events aren't even the highlights of the story. Pre-Kryptonite, Superman scares a village doomed by an erupting volcano with his invulnerability to harm... so much that a woman even jumps into the molten lava rather than be "taken" by him. Post-Kryptonite, Superman is excited to know that he is mortal, just like everyone else.

Well the 90s had the animated Batman, Spider-man, Iron Man, Superman, Hulk, and the Fantastic Four all on one local television network.... so for me, nothing's new.  And then there was the Adventures of Lois and Clark every Sunday night....

Heroes was a great show when it started. I think what so many people liked about it was the pretty much unlimited potential in the characters. Then the second season hit, and I had already decided to stop watching after the first season finale, but I hear it was pretty terrible.

As far as longevity goes, yes, television is definitely destroying that possibility with over-saturation. It's kind of like what my employer is doing right now. A lot of my co-workers are rebelling against an increasingly over-bearing management, and because it takes some time to break in a well-trained employee, the gamble is mistaken for job security. From what I've overheard, however, my employer is looking to over-staff the workplace to get everyone on a short leash.

It does seem like a big gamble with Cloak and Dagger. Let's face it, this is a series that started off as a war on poverty and drugs, now it's going to ABC family. It could either bomb (which is more likely) or its success could prompt Marvel Comics to start pushing those characters out more.

With Wonder Woman returning to television, I think it's great. It really seems that Wonder Woman fans and comic experts are the only ones who know more than three or four facts about the Amazon princess. Hopefully a successful tv show will "educate" the public on Diana a bit more, and then I'll wager a live-action movie will be on the horizon.

Green Lantern is getting his own Bruce Timm style animated series. That could do wonders for the live-action film series and like I mentioned with Wonder Woman, introduce the character to kids who haven't read the comics. The same with Thor.

Mary Jane is the objectified wife of the story. Not the definitive girlfriend.
Gwen Stacy is Spider-man's definitive girlfriend.
Although, if we're getting into semantics, considering Gwen didn't like Spider-man.....
Spider-man's definitive girlfriend is Black Cat.

When Tom brought up Wolverine, I thought he was going to get into how much he's gotten around. It's like he has a calender-holiday-list that he'll bring to the door of whatever girl's door and be like "it's your turn".

@queenfrost_:  Sofia's not a love interest in the slightest.... Sofia Gigante Falcone... she's a main character in The Long Halloween and Dark Victory, but I threw her in with Harley and Talia because the roles they would be assuming in the third film if present, would be taking over where Carmine/Joker/Ra's left off.

I know a lot of people want to see Talia, but I just don't get why she'd be necessary now that Ra's is out of the picture. I look at it this way: you don't see Dick, Barbara, Jason, or Tim following Batman around.... you shouldn't see Talia. If Ra's wasn't grooming Bruce to marry his daughter in the first one, then she might as well not exist here.

I agree with those saying that there shouldn't be a "love interest" as the female lead. I didn't like Rachel because she was just that, only split between Bruce and Harvey. Whatever happened to Guilda?

There are a dozen women who should be a part of this movie. It's like listing through all the men that need to be in it... they're just characters belonging in the Batman universe.

Off the top of my head, these two are the one's I think would work perfectly
Leslie Thompkins - Thomas Wayne wasn't the only doctor in Bruce's life
Renee Montoya - surely there will be someone on the Batman task force asking questions.

The rest...
Re-runs
Catwoman - we've seen in some form or another
Ivy - I imagine Nolan will avoid her like the plague
Vicki Vale - honestly, who doesn't think of Lois Lane?

Avenging a "loved one"
Harley - we're not going to see without the Joker
Talia - we've already seen Ra's ideas, don't need to see them again
Sofia - too two-dimensional for me to care about

It really does get obnoxious with time. Remember (of course you all remember) the Christian Bale craze when fanboys and fangirls alike wanted him cast in any and everything they could think of? Then the Terminator set tantrum got leaked, and people lost a bit of interest.

Look at the most recent bit of news concerning the Spider-man reboot. Who could have guessed with confidence that relatively unknown Rhys Ifans would be cast as the main villain? Moral of the story is... think outside the box.

@Emperor Gonzo Noir:  As a former Highlander fan (former, meaning I grew up a bit since then), I've got to disagree with you and say that the first and fourth movies were the most watchable.

Honestly though, there is a reason why Christopher Lambert hasn't been making too many appearances in big budget movies as of late. Not that having a big budget counts for much (just look at the movie in question), but he really is a BAD actor, one who has really only grown worse with age. As for his currently unannounced role in Ghost Rider, considering the movie has connections to the Vatican, I can only wager he'd be playing some priest or the like.

@damswedon: "He" would beg to differ....

This is bad. For me, I mean. I keep telling myself I need to keep SAVING my money so that I won't have to ride my bike to work... but then I see things like this, which makes me want to blow $300 on an Xbox 360 so that I'll be able to play both games.
Well, at least I'll have another year before that happens....

Wow. A non-BioWare rpg. We'll see how this plays out.
