My story most likely isn’t too different than yours. For the most part I did have a normal childhood, both parents that loved me, nice home. School life was not that bad either. Yes I was your everyday run of mill teen, well that was until about a few months after my 17 birthday. Wow that honestly feels like a life time ago… The school auditorium swelled with the echoes of cheers, whistles and thunderous clapping. That followed the cheerleaders’ routine and the announcing of our football team. Homecoming pep rallies, the one thing I can say truly annoyed me about high school life. "And last but not least the man that will lead our Hawks to a third straight state championship. The two time All-State Quarterback, Joshua Cruz…" About time him name was called the PA system had been drowned out by the student body chants of JC.
At that time in my life, I wish I could have said I was Joey and everyone was cheering for me. That was not the case here at all. I was not the man that everyone had their eyes on. I was the one on the top of the bleachers making stupid face at him while drawing. My name is Michael Omar Keller, and at that time I was or at least I figured I was an ordinary teen. Though I wasn’t a popular but by no means was I a social outcast, ah the nice balance of being at the point that you don’t register as a threat by either party. Sitting back I remembered that at one point me and Joey were actually friends, we had known each other since we were 10 years old. But it seems that once he became God’s gift to football he had forgot how I was. It didn’t matter much to me he chose his path and walked it never looking back.
If I didn’t say it before I hated pep rallies, but the only reason I would ever be caught at one was because of one person. Kathleen Sanders, she wasn’t the head cheerleader, just a cheerleader. Though just being one meant she was out of my social grasp, thought it didn’t mean I could not enjoy her radiant smile and glow as she gave all she had in each cheer. Finally working up the courage to ask her to homecoming, I was interrupted by Joey. Well I should say him and his click. The feeling of the most popular kids in school eyes piercing through you is not the best feeling world, well unless you were one of the popular ones this you already know. The sounds of Joey ridicules and the laughter it bought on blended as it invaded my ear drums, now we all have our limits of restraint or ability to turn the other cheek. Whatever you want to call it, but all I know I couldn’t take it and without thinking the words just rolled off my tongue. "Alright, OH great King Arthur... enough with the pandering to the steroid feed knuckle dragger of your round table. Really you think being able to throw an inflated piece of rubber wrapped in plather make you better than anyone else…" Yay me! I’m so proud of younger me for standing up for myself.
Though unknown to myself, that would lead to the moment that changed my life forever. Now for the most part everyone knew that there were mutants among them in the school, the growing population of the race alone would tell you that. But like now people with powers were feared for being monstrous, personally I could care less abilities or not if you were up front and not a total jerk I had no problem with you. But unfortunately not everyone shares my views on the matter. So this lead to lots of teen mutants that could pass for normal to hide their powers form everyone even their closest friends. Come on wouldn’t you high school is like a zoo filled with wild animals looking for that weak link to jump on and slaughter for their own dominance.
But I’m getting away from my story, back on track now where did I leave off? Oh yeah… After telling JC off one would figure that I would be grounded into hamburger meat by him and rest of the football team. But luckily with the Homecoming game just a few days away, none of them would risk getting suspended. Can you say sigh of relief? But that was shortly lived when I found myself in the middle of a challenge of skill with the one of the best young QB’s in the state. Going out to field we were both handed a football and appointed a receiver. Joey seeming effortlessly with a three step drop lunched the pig skin 75 yards to his receiver. Of course everyone cheered patting him on the back and exchanged high fives’, it felt like a bad episode of national geographic. "Look closely as the pack surrounds the alpha male as he proves his dominance." It was sickening really, and to think in few moments they would be laughing and taunting me. Oh well that’s life for you at times I guess. As the second receiver took off running there wasn’t much I could do at this point but drew back, though something seemed to be very off.
Reared back I threw the ball with all I had at poor Johnny. He was a third string receiver that was trying to fit in with the other jocks. As the foot ball left my hand it spiraled like a bullet and sliced through the air into the receiver’s chest sending him flying backwards 28 yards into the end zone before he stopped. A collective gasp was heard around me before nothing but silence. Their eyes filled with fear as I grabbed my bag and art book before taking off running. My heart raced, my muscles ached but I didn’t stop until I returned home. I was confused scared, didn’t know what to do or who to tell. But a small part of me wanted to test what I thought to be my new power. Going into my closest I pulled out a baseball bat, my nerves were shaking as I held it up and tried to bend it. But it was to no use the metal wouldn’t give, causing even more confusion in my head.
Needless to say going to school next day was pure hell. I went being moderately known to rock star status minus the adoring, love and fantasizing and replaced it with hate fear and disgust. "Oh the fun days of my youth. Nothing like having your peers whisper freak and other nice things like that one you pass them."
Powers & Abilities
Power mimicry:
The ability to copy powers, abilities and skills of anyone within close range. Though like most with this ability SyNthex doesn’t take on physical characteristics unless it’s actually related to the persons power. (I.E. wings for flight but not blue skin)
Armed and Unarmed combat:
SyNthex was trained in the Russian martial art of Sambo, though it would be an actual cross of free style and combat Sambo. He is also trained in close to mid range weaponry. (guns, knives, etc…)
Permanently Copied Powers
Pyrokinesis
- He is able to control any form of fire and heat, as well as create fire from his body (Though he normally only engulfs his hands or arms in flames). He hasn’t yet tested the full extent of how hot his flames can reach. Though he has shown the ability to absorb heat from any living thing (Causing them to freeze to death) and non-living thing (bombs, video games systems, cars...etc).
Cryokinesis
- He is able to lower the temperature of his body along with water molecules and encase himself in an ice armor of varying shape and consistency. And like his pyrokinetic ability he can turn his entire body (though still like the pryokinesis he prefers not to go beyond coving his hands and arms) into a flexible form of organic ice. He can also freeze the moisture in the air and can create objects
Super Strength
- He has the ability to lift around 8 tons with ease though his max at this point seems to be just under about 12 tons.
Telekinesis
- Generated mostly from his hands rather than his mind (as a preference) SyNthex can create telekinetic force barriers, fire telekinetic force blasts, and lift things weighing multiple tons. Also he can use this ability to fly at mach speeds (though he rarely does.)
