While his costume/outfit changes with each interpretation, one of the more enduring looks is a mask, suit, cloak, and hat.
Quite possibly THE original cloaked crimefighter.
The most well-known archetype of this costume assortment.
Inspired by the Shadow.
Will Eisner's iconic everyman hero.
An at times more non-lethal version of this character archetype. Assisted by his trusty comrade Kato, these two pose as villains while secretly undermining underworld operations.
The original Sandman. Really went the extra mile the "mask" category.
Another such hero from this time period.
aka: Masquerade from Project Superpowers.
Originally obscure Marvel hero from the Golden Age, now revived for the sadly stalled "The Twelve" saga.
Another golden age creation that's found new life in modern contemporary times.
Mixture of the Shadow and Green Hornet. Was seen (pre New 52) as the first Costumed Crime Fighter in the DC universe.
Mysterious figure who investigates and battles supernatural forces and the like.
Vic Sage, the original Question.
The successor to Vic Sage.
Sadly obscure Marvel hero from the late 70's to the early 90's. Heavily influenced by the Shadow and Spider.
Mixture of the Question and Ditko's obscure "Mister A" character, Alan Moore fashioned one of comic's most memorable personalities.

You really shoulda seen this coming.
Warren Ellis' take on/homage to the Shadow
super obscure hero from Epic Comics, who went on increasingly bizarre adventures.
Started out as a homage/tribute to silent movie/serial/pulp heroes in the Batman animated series.
Steve Ditko's uncompromising vigilante with a strict "black & white" outlook upon law and crime.
Capcom's mysterious trenchcoated man, who's always seemingly present at various events. Either playing a role or merely observing.
Alan Moore's take on the Spirit during his tenure at America's Best Comics.
