If you're trying to make a Christian superhero, I advise a Christian origin of his powers. I.e. something related to the afterlife, God, or descendant from a biblical figure such as Samson. Simply stating he's a Christian and that has no play upon his powers takes away from that aspect of the character.

I think people look way to deep into this. It's not very political and it in no way really represents any certain racist or negative message. It just simply means he stands up for the things all Americans support and what, in a perfect comic book world where men can leap tall building in a single bound, would be about. I think it just simply means he stands up for freedom, looks out for the little guy, and always does the right thing no matter what. The American Way means whatever you want it to mean, just like how Superman is however you imagine him to be.

Cons: It's still not continuing on today despite the fact the superhero genre is arguably bigger than ever, also Superman was a tad of pushover at times

Pros: 99% of it

Ever since we were first introduced to Grant Morrison's "All-Star Superman", writer's of the character have been obsessing with creating similar masterpiece stories. It has created a mental complex of sorts amongst writers that make them feel compelled to make every story defining, immortal, and a soul moving portrayal of the character. "The Superman complex" could almost be coined as a term for a writer who tries to hard or attempts to over think a character. This constant overthinking I believe has been partly responsible for his decline in public opinion, and the recent lack of quality stories. Writers of the character attempt to create ground breaking stories yet believe they can somehow mix it with the character's trademark nostalgia qualities. Until writers can realize the beauty of the character is in his simplicity, I don't think a quality Superman story will be around for some time. Thoughts?

@supermudz: Very good ideas actually, perhaps you have a career in writing for the character on the horizon.
