I didn't expect much at all going in, so I was pretty pleasantly surprised. It was a really fun and exciting film, nowhere near as good as Godzilla, but still a really fun and well paced film. Not every film has to be a masterpiece sometimes it's fun to just kill 2 hours with senseless 100 foot tall giant ape violence.
Spider-Man 2 manages to do what no other superhero film has yet to do, have both equal parts realism and fantasy. In most cases comic book movies that are really good are one of the two. Over the top and amazing comic book action like the Avengers or Deadpool, or grim and gritty realism in the case of Logan or the Nolan trilogy. Spider-Man 2 managed to do both, beautifully.
Most definitely to general audiences. The character has become synonymous with the role and they should be smart and wait a few years, like 10-15, before replacing the actor.
Captain America, Batman, Wolverine, and Captain Atom all come to mind. I would argue they are rarely given a voice to their opinions unlike a lot of current SJW heroes, but Cap does have some great libertarian/conservative quotes from Civil War that are honestly quite inspiring.
Tony Stark could be argued to a degree as well depending on if you looked at the Superhuman Registration Act as more relating towards gun laws and privacy rights or more relating towards the Patriot Act I suppose.
Only have a few Marvel comics on my pull list and don't keep very up to date on their events, but where are the Fantastic Four? They don't have a book, the Thing was with the Guardians of the Galaxy and now SHIELD I think, Johnny is with the Inhumans, and I've yet to see Reed or Sue in anything in a long time. Does Marvel have something against their original super team relating to movie rights? Or are they just waiting to come out with a new PC version of them?
