Should Wonder Woman and Cyborg Become Best Friends?

Superman and Batman are best friends. In Justice League issue 9 written by Geoff Johns, they're such close friends that Batman just calls Superman to hang out on a mission. And their friendship has even produced a long-running Superman/Batman series.

Green Lantern and Flash are best friends too. They get along better than anyone else on the Justice League, and they seem to team up together very often.

So I think it wold be cool if Wonder Woman and Cyborg became best friends. They could hang out, share experiences, and team up. Maybe they could even be co-workers if they both work for A.R.G.U.S. Cyborg could work for the Red Room while Wonder Woman works for the Black Room or the Circus.

Plus, they have a pretty cool dichotomy. Superman and Batman are Light and Darkness. Green Lantern and Flash are Space and Time. Wonder Woman and Cyborg would be Antiquity and Modernity. And all 3 pairs have an Outer Space Hero/Earth Hero dichotomy. Now that's symmetry!

What do you think?

...Because... No. I just don't like it, it doesn't have ot be rational. You'd have to change the two characters far too much for it to work, and since I'm pretty sure that DC wants the original Titans to have existed at some point, I'm pretty sure that Cyborg will serve as the experienced person there instead.

@ReVamp: Okay, but you actually don't need to change the characters at all. You would just be seeing a new side to the two of them. The warrior mentality of Wonder Woman vs someone with a scientific pedigree. I think it would be an interesting dynamic. And it would be unique. It wouldn't be too much like Superman/Batman or Green Lanter/Flash.

And just because Cyborg is an experienced mentor to the Teen Titans, doesn't mean that he and Wonder Woman can't be goo friends. LOL.

Do I think they should be best friends, like confiding in each other their darkest of secrets? No I do not. Do I think they would respect each other, and help when asked? Most definitely, even if it's just to move the couch out of one or the other's apartment. They are great friends and hold a mutual respect for one another, but a close friendship would be beyond tricky to write, because of the two characters having very distinct personalities and beliefs that I believe would sometimes clash with one another.

  1. The characters are two different and I see no specific reason for them to be BFFs all of a sudden justbecause GL and Flash, as well as Superman and Bats. If you said Aquaman and Wonder Woman on the otherhand, I could definitely see that one coming.
  2. I wasn't saying that him being with the Titans meant he could have a friendship, simply that it probably where DC would want him to go, if it were the truth.
  3. Its fine xP.

I agree with this.

But that's what would make them interesting. If they got along all the time, then that would be boring.

Aquaman already has a bestie. Her name is Mera. Hawkman has Atom. Superman has Batman. Green Lantern has Flash. Currently, Cyborg and Wonder Woman don't have that kind of a one-on-one relationship with another hero. And I think that they could play off of each other well for the reasons stated in the OP.

so basicly the OP decided to put WW and Cyb together because they didnt have any friends to have a play date with?

No, just no. Not everyone needs a "bestie" in comic books. They should all be friends but not best friends. And Mera is Arthur's wife, not a bestie

I would say that Mera and Aquaman are both best friends and spouses. You can be both.

I get what the OP is saying. Aquaman and Mera don't need another superhuman friendship because they already have each other to team up with and relate to. Cyborg and Wonder Woman don't have a character like that in their own titles. That's why Superman/Batmam, Green Lantern/Flash, Atom/Hawkman, Mr. Terrific/Dr. Midnight, etc. are such cool relationships.

@Jorgevy said:

And while that's true. I think that the Wonder Woman and Cyborg friendship could be entertaining. I could see them having a sibling-like relationship. I think that it would enhance both characters and lead to some funny moments like "Don't break her heart, Steve or I'll [insert funny cyber threat] here."

It would be like Sonja Blade and Jax or Hawkeye and Black Widow or Stabler and Benson.

That doesn't need to go away just because Wonder Woman and Cyborg are best friends. In fact...

Steve Trevor is being killed off, and Lois Lane and Clark Kent are being separated--just so Superman can date Wonder Woman

I mean, Green Lantern/Green Arrow doesn't nullify Green Lantern/Flash.

Arthur's bestie is J'onn not Mera. And Cyborg is besties with Beast boy if I'm not mistaken. I guess if writers could come up with way that doesn't make it feel forced than I could get behind it.

@OutlawRenegade: I dont see the necessity for besties, they should focus on good stories. Besties should happen naturally when two characters that happen to have stuff in common, go down to fight some bad guys. Not just randomly pick the two lonely characters and force them

Also, that's kinda the point - Mera IS Arthur's wife, obviously she is his best friend. but being his wife automaticly comes with that so I dont get the point of saying that Aqua's bestie is Mera.

Nothing that happens between them is natural. Authors make decisions, and then they turn those decisions into cool adventures/stories.

The point is that Aquaman and Mera already have a close/deep one-on-one relationship in the superhuman community. But whatevs. I just prefer the idea of the Cy/WW friendship. AQ/WW just seems like more of a ship.

I don't think that Cy and BB know each other in the DCnU. Plus the relationships in the DCnU are different. I.E. Green Lantern and Green Arrow don't like each other and are not friends.

There was this scene if Justice league:Doom Where Wonder Woman was hallucinating and attacked random civilians.Cyborg then intervened and fought Wonder Woman and neutralized the hallucinogenic drug.Watch that scene and decide for yourself.

@OutlawRenegade:you are completely missing the point. Also, the DCnU still has some of the old continuity, so some relationships were/are kept

PS: I never said I wanted a Aqua/Wondie best ship, or any ship at all. They've done that actually, kinda... and there's lots of lonely characters to pick and randomly ship together then

@OutlawRenegade: I dont want to waste time with this so Imma try to explain it as simple as possible: Just because they are fictional it doesnt mean they should act unnaturally. A good writer and a good story has human characters (or characters who are similar to humans in mind) acting like natural real humans. That's good writing, it makes it seem real and possible. And for that you need common ground or you get forced shipping like Supes and Wondie. Besides common ground you also cant just do it out of nothing, you have to hint at it slightly, like a normal relationship in the real world. People have things in common, talk about them, hang out a bit, and become friends with all that comes with it. It has to look natural even if they are ficitional, that's one of the hardest jobs of a writer.

If you still dont get it, well, I dont know and I give up

@Jorgevy: Then it's all on the writer and not on,the characters. It's the writer's job to make it feel natural. Sure there are some characters who are too different to be friends like say the Darkness and Superman, but Cyborg and Wonder Woman are not that different. They've already been team mates and friends for five years in the DCnU, so it's not a huge leap to say that they could be best friends. And what differences they do have will make them entertaining. Take Superman/Batman for example--they have very different ideologies, styles, personalities, and backgrounds but they work. I don't see why Wonder Woman/Cyborg wouldn't work in the same vein.

I understand your point, but I don't think it really makes sense in the way that you backed it up. I still believe that with a good writer, this could be an awesome and very believable best-friendship. They're personalities don't put them in direct conflict. Wonder Woman has a lot of sympathy and like people with fighting spirit which I think would help her to get along with Cyborg. Cyborg could probably see that in man's world, she feels like just as big of an outsider as he does. I came up with that in 5 seconds. A real writer could do an even better job at explaining their friendship.

@OutlawRenegade: the way you say with a good writer any character could be besties with another and be good and feel natural. Which I widely disagree

Which kinda has to do with Im about to say: Bats and Supes arent really besties. They are like colleagues/mates. They have a friendship yes, but it's hard to call it a best friendship in a normal sense, mainly because they are super heroes and for other factors. Anyway, I dont care. DC will probably never do this and if they do, Im not forced to read it

I think it's a really great idea! Wonder Woman is just sort of there a lot of the time, she should definitely become best friends with Cyborg! Plus it'd be nice to have a boy/girl best friend relationship that didn't involve them hooking up.

I got the info from Bleedingcool.com, who knew that Jim Lee and Geoff Johns were going to do Justice League together 5 years before it happened. The have the best comic leaks in the industry. Here's the link to the article:

http://www.bleedingcool.com/forums/comic-book-forum/43311-dc-relaunch-hooking-up-superman-wonder-woman.html

And if you read Justice League #9, you see how that starts to develop... Someone is lonely and someone is heartbroken...

Steve and Wonder Woman broke up because she couldn't say "I Love You." Steve is about to be murdered. Clark feels alone because no one at work involves him in anything, and he's no where near Lois Lane's radar. And in issue 3 of Justice League, Superman and Wonder Woman got a very tiny relationship/attraction nod. I predict Superman will comfort Wonder Woman and bom-chicka-wow-wow.

An Aquaman/ Wonder Woman friendship would make more sense, sense they're both royalty and warriors. I could still c a WW and Cy friendship. Now that they were the non-white males in th JLA, so they have that in common. Although Superman might count also... Do kyptonians come in different races?

This. Cyborg's supposed to be the youngest Leaguer and with Billy being a teen, it makes sense for Johns to pair these two up. I'd love to see Billy initially reproachful about Cyborg's friendship as he is in the back up with his supporting cast adopted family. But then over time Billy and Vic develop a meaningful, realistic friendship. Plus Wonder Woman and Aquaman have far more in common. Both are now outcast royalty, both are regarded with suspicion and both do not always have the best understanding of Man's World/Surface World. But it looks like Flash will be left all on his own now as I don't see Hal on the cover of Justice League 13.
