Street-Level at best.

What do you mean "at best"? There's a possible world in Marvel Land wherein Wolverine is less than street level? (OK, outside of Cornell's "let's completely make Wolverine the worst at what he does" phase).

While they can definitely hold their own against him, Logan's a tier or two above Daredevil, Captain America and their ilk. The only thing that stops him from walking through Parker is the webbing, and though I shudder at the new "power" he's being purported to return with (claws that burn ultra hot ... sigh ... ) I do look forward to reopening the Spider-Man vs. Wolverine debate once he has his new powers ... yeah, I'm looking at you @laflux ;-P

@super_soldierxii: who do you give the edge to skillwise? Also what if it’s win by any means (KO, death, incapacitation) at their best.

Demonstrably? Probably Black Panther ever so slightly. Logan is just too inconsistent. If we're looking at hyperbole, Wolverine would definitely be the more skilled with Wolverine knowing, purportedly, how to kill anything that slithers, crawls, walks or flies in the known universe (and yet not able to get the hand to hand advantage over Scott Summers etc. etc. etc.)

Physicals being even, as I believe they mostly are, Wolverine is more ruthless and far, far more durable. Panther has the tools to hurt Wolvie, and Wolvie as the tools to hurt Panther (despite the Vibranium weave). This fight is as close as they come. But to the death, assuming both at their best, I edge toward Logan.

Thor with Stormbringer would be tough.

  • Durability argument: Thor now has an axe that can most likely pierce Superman (Doomsday did) SPOILER: as it went right through Thanos with ease - a being against whom the Avengers' collective best efforts won them but "a drop of blood".
  • Speed argument: Superman was tagged repeatedly by Doomsday, a being who even Batman was able to time and dodge more than once. So Superman can and will get hit by Thor. Let's not act as though he's untouchable now ... Not when drawn into a one on one slug fest.

The important bit is Thor has no compunctions about taking life (not so for Supes) so he'll be trying to cut Supes in half and has an ultra powerful weapon bound to his will, and with a damage output type (cutting / piercing) far more dangerous to Supes than Mjolnir was (blunt force). Thor won't be pulling his punches as Superman is wont to do. He's a warrior born, a deity for arguably the most bloodthirsty peoples in modern history (Vikings) and even states so himself onscreen by claiming he's lived for over 1500 years and has taken twice that many lives in battle ...

Casual comic book encounter: Black Panther.

Wolverine in his own comic: Stalemate with heavy showings of his durability and regen

Black Panther in his own comic: Clowns Wolverine.

Really it depends on how lazy Wolverine is, Black Panther would easily beat him up since Wolvie prefers to windmill his claws as opposed to using his 100+ years of skill and 18 different martial arts styles which would give him the majority coupled with his power if it's working like it should, healing factors are tricky because writers are retarded. Black Panther with a headache still was fighting on par with a Bloodlusted Ironfist who was shredding through Vibranium weave and nearly killed him though.

Neither of these characters should ever "clown" the other. This, as ever, is a very close fight. To the death favors Logan however. Even with T'Challa sporting anti-metal.

Wolverine is epitomizes street level. He's just incredibly inconsistent and incredibly wanked, when in reality most writers would think that resourceful peak humans like Batman or Solid Snake have at least the potential to beat Wolverine as long as they get creative with the method.

But on Comic Vine he is literally treated like a Hulk-tier fighter.

Anyone can beat anyone if you're "creative" enough. If you have to start getting overly "creative" to justify your "hero" winning, that right there should tell you something. Should tell you you're the one doing the "wanking" really.

His powerset is basically Kryptonite against mid-tier bricks but anyone else who is great at dodging will take him out eventually.

That's a huge over simplification and not at all true. Wolverine is a top tier martial artist with reflexes on Spider-Man's level (and he's consistently tagged Spider-Man as well). He just doesn't "dodge" because he doesn't have to most of the time (that and lazy writers feel the need to showcase the healing factor all the time). The fact he's also durable as hell means he can at least contain folks like the Hulk for a while, where others would simply go "splat" before too long.

Assuming BOTH are written intelligently, OML should take this, but with admitted difficulty.

Folks just assume Wolverine in many of his incarnations is just a punching bag and all too often the sole question is whether he can neutralize "X" antagonist's damage output or not. Then when one justifiably states he can, folks go off and say; "Wolverine fans think he's unbeatable is all". Listen, that silly critique may hold in a Wolverine versus WWHulk thread, but we're debating Kraven here fer Keerist's sake. C'mon now.

Logan, written with the skills he's purported to have, plus his power-set, is just too much for most streets. Kraven included. Even an "over the hill" version.

I think there are contradictory statements in this thread. Which isn't surprising as Wolverine is a contradictory type character with showings placing him on all levels of the power spectrum (he's taken down Sabretooth, Mystique, Daken, Bloodsport, along with a handful of others all at once, and been soundly beaten by each of them individually). He's a living embodiment of styles make fights. Yes, if certain street levelers can neutralize his strengths (via webbing or anti-metal or TP or whatnot) they can bring him down. But is that the invariable outcome? No, no not really.

I think Wolverine blurs the lines between street and mid tier quite nicely and give kudos to this thread as it's a genuine topic up for debate.
