This movie is totally worth owning. Source material discrepancies aside, it was well-made movie. I'd rather have films like these rather Green Lantern any day. Strong Script and great performances by everyone. I can see why some may not like January Jones' role but I think you can color Emma Frost as ineffectual and ice cold, right? It is just Charles and Erik's story but if you're going to explain the origins of the X-men it doesn't get much more tragic and human(or mutant...) of a story than the drama between these two friends, They, who would've made an unstoppable team together but are, unfortunately, conflicted over their views on humankind. My favorite comic movie of the year.

I thought Kirkman's episode on the first season was really ham-fisted. I think Daranbot leaving may severely hurt the show, mostly because he was excited to implement more of the comic's elements to the screen. That first episode was cinematic perfection but all the derivations that took place from the second episode on were mediocre. I'm sure him leaving had a lot more to do with creative differences than is publicly being let on, which leaves me a bit worrysome.

why does it matter?? a good character is a good character regardless of the gender of its creator
This could be true, if we knew for sure every character in the new 52 is going to be written well, which we don't.

For me, an overly male-centric universe is a very uninteresting one.

I feel a disturbance in the Force, as if millions of voices suddenly cried out in terror and were suddenly...broke.

Definitely getting it on blu!! I remember reading that Darabont  was to include a black and white version of the show ala "The Mist" DVD. Is this not the case anymore? Would have loved to see Walking Dead in glorious BnW!!!

I'm going to go ahead and said I would've dug it if it was in there. As is, the final opening of the movie was great, though the movie overall lacked some of humanity the first one had. I think more of the "Demon in the bottle" element may have helped with that, though it would be on the opposite side of the human spectrum. One thing I loved about the first one was that, although Tony is a super hero, he's also a snarky asshole....

.... but hes our snarky asshole.

Have any alcoholic friends like that?

I'd also be keen with Farveau coping with alcoholism in the movie, I think he'd be able to do a story about coping pretty well (see: Swingers)  while balancing out the Iron Man action we need in the film (Though, in my opinion, I thought the final action scenes in the first film were it's weakest points) .

It also could have been a great counterpoint to the first film's prologue, which ended with a pretty strong image (Tony Stark tied up, video'd execution style), and could have been to be very affecting to a messed up post 9/11 era.

That said, the scene definitely would not work if it was tacked on to the film we saw this summer. The scene would have required a very different approach to follow through on such an establishing shot, and it may have been a more superior approach.

There hasn't been any good portrayals of women once in Ultimates once Loeb started on it. Valkyrie somehow turned into a codependent sex freak in Ultimates 3. Horrible.
