X-Men it may seem like a worthless cause, but I could never allow myself to be as cruel as the people persecuting me.

Such a complex question! I'd probably do my own thing for a while, and then end up joining/supporting Xavier. =D

Technically both Prodigy and Dr. Rao fit the bill of no powers but are helping the X-men.

@WarMachineMarkV: right! i think my decision would be based on my power set... if i had to choose i'd want to me telekinetic, telepathic, or have Storm's abilities (seeing as shes my favorite character), but i think being a telepath would make things easier to live on my own...u can easily conceal yourself

I'd definitely want to able to use my powers, so I'd team up with people like me--those with powers who are working on not hiding.

- If my situation and power set allowed me to make it alone I would stay to the sidelines for now, the X-Men are divided and being run like Enron. Unless I'm a powerhouse my presence is not going to tilt the advantage to any meaningful amount so it is of little consequence in the big picture.

- If forced to pick a side I would stay at the school not because of agreeing with Logan over Scott, but it is a lesser target for the moment. I'm not thrilled with any of the choices available at the moment, but if I have to choose it sadly is the best option for now.

- I would hope to be able to gain a position of some influence to get all the heads back at the table and make some lemonade out of all the lemons

Hmm... since some people choose to claim their own mutant power I will add that since in this scenario my mutant power is to split myself into two beings one good, one bad, so that whoever wins I win. Unless mutant haters win then I lose.

I suppose I'd choose Xavier. The brotherhood are cool in every way save for Magneto wanting to kill people.

I would open a cool detective agency in New York and have noir-esque adventures with a small bad of like-minded, and often rather sexy mutants. I would generally manage to avoid the constant soap-opera drama of the wider mutant / superhero community. The agency would be called something like X Vector or Factor X.

The side of getting that pesky X-gene nixed by Scarlet Witch. I'm sick of that perverted Cerebro thing " watching " my DNA (and the heavy breathing some psychic making in my thoughts, and Xavier's rubber pants). I have enough Apple products that watch me in other ways as it is. I just want to eat my cereal and watch Powerpuff Girls in peace, puh-leaze!

I would try my best to live a normal life or try being a liason for the X-Men but not fully staying with them where they are living.

I would join the Brotherhood. Mankind will never accept mutants, so we need to prepare ourselves for the upcoming war.

@StormyWeather: Really I think the Mutant phobia thing is overplayed, there's more powerful forces in the Marvel U. If anything Civil War etc should have ended hero activity outright...

I think it would depend on what powers I had or what I look looked like. If I look like Beast or Nightcrawler and face that type of hatred from humans. I would join the brotherhood. If I was telepath and look normal. I would follow in Charles footsteps, try help people.

It would depend on what mutation I had. If it wasn't worth a damn, Hide away. If it was useful the X-men.

Become a Hero 1st, then be all "By the way, I'm a Mutant"

Then people would be like, "Oh THAT guy's a Mutant? They can't be so bad..."

pffft....Brotherhood, of course I'm assuming we're talking more useful versions of the Brothehood, like in the Ultimate Universe or the movies
 
I could give you a laundry list of reasons

Depends on the powerset I have. If it's something lame and easily concealed, I live on my own as a normal person. If it's something that couldn't be hidden (i.e. Blue fur), I guess I'll be an X-Man. If my powerset is useful and easily concealed, I'd try to be a part of any other team that's not the X-Men or Brotherhood.
