Ok ok I admit that I may get slammed for going against a development of Superman, but I just don't like whats happening with him at the moment. And for those of you who do not yet know what is happenin, its known as Grounded. To me Superman is an all powerful dude who's meant to kick butt and save the world and universe over and over and that's basically it.
I don't like that when reading Superman, I will be readin quite a number of issues of a sad Superman walking through America, refusing to fly. And trying to reconnect with people. Don't get me wrong, I can understand him feeling the need that he has to reconnect with human society after the events of The Supermen War, but i feel it does not need to be dragged on this long.
To me, the greatest Superman story arc, is the Death of Superman. If you want a Superman comic with emotion just read that. The artwork is pretty good and how the world greaves after his death is just amazing.
To me, Doomsday was probably one of the best villains because he was on par with Superman physically and actually posed a threat. The action was intense too. Now i also understand the level of action in this arc was needed because of what Doomsday was, and I
also don't think that a comic should just be about action and have no emotional tones to it whatsoever, but in my opinion this story had both.
I thought the idea of it wasn't that bad, but definately should not be dragged on for 12 issues. I mean yes he wants to reconnect and feels he needs to make a statement. But think of all the disasters that could happen and all the lives that may be lost during the time that Superman is 'grounded'. The world aint gonna stop for Superman's little pilgramage. I mean are villains just going to leave him alone too and instead go after other heroes coz they feel sorry for him?
Give Superman another villain that is on par with him somehow, one that really gets under his skin. Not a bald guy in a white labcoat (its been done too many times, haha). Have them battle through space, punch each other through planets, something crazy (not Darkseid either) There is a reason Superman has so many powers right? To stop strong villains that pose a threat? People love the action side to Superman, that's why you can find fanart of him fighting Goku and Sentry (heck the original series was titled "Action Comics"). Maybe I'm just not seeing at the same level as the writers and this is a massive development for Superman, but I want angry, strong, action filled (with some emotional undertones) Superman back.
