Spider-Man: Year One #3

Spider-Man stands atop a three story office building about five minuets away from Aunt May & Uncle Ben's house. A two story abandoned tenement building sits opposite this one on the other side of a narrow alley. Spider-Man takes a deep breath and runs full speed at the edge of the roof. Then he springs off and jumps from one building to the other. When he lands on the roof of the tenement he police rolls and comes to a standing position. He goes to the edge of this building and sees nothing but the street below. A few cars drive past but mostly no one is out. Peter looks across the street and sees a financial office building that stands at least ten stories. He backs up and runs again full speed at the edge of this two story building. Once he hits the edge be bounds as high as he can. He extends his right arm and depresses the trigger on his right gauntlet. A stream of "webbing" shoots from the apparatus and succesfully sticks to the building across the street. Within seconds Peter is swinging around the massive ten story building using his webbing. Webslingers work. Check! He laughs with excitement.

Peter swings right into the side of the building. However, he doesn't fall. He grips onto the building with his gloves and boots. Spider gloves and boots work. Check! He starts a long crawl up the side of the building. It takes quite some time. He makes the mistake of looking down and seeing the street below him. He uses his webslingers and pulls himself up the building. This proves to be a lot easier. Once on top, he sits on the edge and removes his mask. His breathing is still normal. Those breathing techniques Mr. Reilly taught me really work. I feel like a million bucks. I can keep going. He stands confidently atop the building when he hears sirens in the distance. Quickly Spider-Man jumps off the roof in the direction of the sirens. He shoots his webs onto some near-by buildings and swings seamlessly through the streets. A few cars are driving through the night and Peter passes undetected over them. He catches a group of police cars shutting down an entire street. They are cautiously approaching a yellow duplex building with their guns drawn.

Peter posts up on top of the building across the street. He presses a button on the side of his goggles and everything flashes from enhanced high definition viewing to night vision. The police are closing in on the front of the building. "COME OUT DECKER! WE HAVE THE PLACE SURROUNDED." screams a mega-phone. Peter notices a man-hole cover in the alleyway behind the house opens. A hand comes up and motions to someone that Peter can't see. The police begin to move around the building and Peter jumps on an opportunity to get a spot on top of the duplex. He swings across the street and hears "What the hell is that!?" below him. Crap! When Peter lands he police rolls and expects to come up on his feet. However, the boards below him snap and Peter crashes through the roof into the building. Spider-Man grabs out for anything to hold onto and shoots out his webbing. It's too late and Peter crashes through the roof and through a collection of boxes covered by a tarp. What the hell was I thinking! I'm gonna die! Peter tries to see in the dark but can't. Something is wrong with his goggles. He tries to pop up but his side screams with pain. He winces and holds his side. He looks up and sees that he plunged down into the basement of this place. Straight down. What happened to the floors? Peter coughs and then notices two men with guns aimed right at him. "What the hell are you man?" Peter opens his mouth to speak but falls to his knees.

At that moment the front door bursts open and SWAT storms into the building bringing smoke screen with them. Quickly, once the men are distracted, Peter shoots their weapons with webbing. He misses one of them and the other is spot on. Both fire though and Peter is winged in the right arm. The other gun explodes in the man's hand. He screams out in pain and Peter scales out of the room through the hole in the roof. He is not noticed thanks to the smoke screen. He lies down on top of the building bleeding from the arm. He laughs and passes out on the roof.

"Hey, hey kid wake-up!" says a voice.

Peter slowly opens his eyes and sees that he is still on the roof of the duplex. Smoke is slowly billowing from the hole in the roof. A tall middle-aged police officer is staring down at him. "You look like you need to go to a hospital. You from here?" Peter lies there in pain. "Yeah, Yonkers... are you gonna...?" the officer holds his hand up. "I'm not going to bring you in. Truthfully this force needs as much help as it can get but you have got to be smarter about it." He holds his hand out to help Peter back to his feet. "What's your name kid?" Peter stands up but is woozy on his feet. "Spider-Man" replies Peter. The officer laughs. "Spider-Man! Whatever. Stacy, Officer George Stacy. Do you want a ride to the hospital?" Peter shakes his head. "I got it." Peter holds his arm. The bullet grazed him. Nothing he can't cover up. It'll be a big bruise. "What happened to those men?" Peter asks. Officer Stacy pulls a cigarette out of his breast pocket and offers one to Peter who declines. "Christopher Decker and his brother Eli have been wanted for about a week now. They broke into a jewelry store a week back and didn't leave anyone alive. Pretty nasty really." Officer Stacy lights his cigarette and pulls in a quick hit. "SWAT took Eli down to county but you really messed up Christopher's hand." Officer Stacy laughs. Peter shrugs. "I was just trying to help out." Officer Stacy looks him up and down. "I know kid. Can I give you a bit of advice?" Peter waits for him. "Don't go getting in our way. I'm letting you go this time. I don't wanna see you out here anymore. It's too dangerous for someone that doesn't have the training." Peter thanks Officer Stacy and webslings off a few blocks away. When he is alone and away from the scene he rips his hoodie off. His right arm is covered in blood.

Peter is instructed to sit down and he obliges. It's a beautiful day in New York today and the view from Dr. Norman Osborn's office is amazing. The sun is beautiful on the ocean at this hour. Peter adjusts himself in his seat. The office is huge. Biggest office Peter has ever seen. Dr. Osborn sits behind his desk with a box of cigars in front of him and a file on Peter Parker. "Well! Peter Parker!" Dr. Osborn smiled. "If Richard could see you today..." Osborn pulls out a cigar and offers one to Peter. He declines politely. Norman snaps his lighter and takes a long puff. "You look just like him, you know that?" Peter smiles. "My Aunt says that I have his nose." Norman stares coldly at Peter. "His nose?" Osborn takes a puff and blows the smoke out in Peter's direction laughing. Peter begins laughing uncomfortably. Norman is staring like an eagle at him now. "I want you to feel at home here with Oscorp. Your test scores are among the highest I've seen. I know you have Richard's intelligence, maybe a bit more." Dr. Osborn looks Peter up and down. "That kind of thing doesn't go unnoticed around here. Let's get you into a higher position. Your not an intern here, your family." Peter smiles again. "Mister, I... I mean Doctor Osborn I don't know how..." Norman Osborn cuts him off. "Why did you come back here Peter?" This question catches Peter off guard. "I mean, why come back to New York? Why didn't you go to work for Hototachi? You're more than qualified." Peter thought about it. "This is my home sir, this is where I am from. My father was born here in New York and I intend to be here for the rest of my life." Norman smiles. "Good. Hototachi has been kicking our ass ever since they manufactured that new alloy. They don't need your help." Peter smiles again. "Glad to have you on board son!" Dr. Osborn stands up and extends his hand across the desk. Peter stands and shakes it. "I am glad to be here Doctor." Osborn walks around his desk. "Now, why don't you go down to Dr. Octavius in the sub-level. He is one of our brightest stars here at Oscorp. You can thank him for the security systems at most Government buildings in DC." Peter thanks Dr. Osborn again. "See if he can get you started with something." Osborn says with a smile.

Peter takes the elevator to the sub-level and walks into Dr. Otto Octavius' laboratory. The floor is concrete and covered in fast food containers and bags. Half finished sodas are resting and rotting on tables and ledges around the office. Peter stands in awe of the mess. Cigarette butts are everywhere. Like someone is just putting cigarettes out on everything. Furious typing is heard. This is Dr. Otto Octavius, a large man that looks to be wedged into a really tricked out office chair. Various buttons and levers are strewn about the chair in almost random locations. A large robotic arm extends from the back of the chair. It hangs lifeless. Dr. Octavius is going through lines of code on a screen. He is adding text and taking it away. He is instantly angry and grumpy. "Why they hell would they send you down here? I like to work alone!" He even has a loud argument with Dr. Osborn on speaker phone while eating a hot pocket. Finally, he succumbs and allows the "help". He tells Peter that he is working on a set of arms that will be able to bring him anything he needs while he works continuously. This would maximize his workload. He demonstrates his robotic arm attached to his chair. He makes another pair of hot pockets with the arm and then lights a cigarette, all while continuously typing code. Peter asks what he can get started with and Octavius tells him to start cleaning this dump up.

Peter is leaving Oscorp for the night and is carrying a ton of paperwork with him. He runs into Mary Jane while he is leaving. She asks how his meeting with Dr. Osborn went and Peter tells her about his "Promotion" and how he has to work for Dr. Octavius. Mary Jane jokes with him about how it's a punishment, not a promotion. He says goodbye and begins to walk away. Then he turns around and gets Mary Jane's attention. He asks her if she would like to go out for coffee or something like that sometime. She declines. "Oh," Mary Jane blushes. "Peter, I... I can't." Mary Jane and Peter both frown simultaneously. "I don't really know what Doctor Thompson and I are Peter but it's just not a good time." She walks away reluctantly. Peter leaves in the opposite direction.

Peter returns home from a long bus ride out of the city. The Parker's live in a beautiful suburban home in Yonkers. Aunt May is putting a dish of mashed potatoes out on the dining table. She already has dinner set up. It looks delicious. Peter puts his papers down and walks to the dinner table. "This looks amazing Aunt May." She smiles. "Your Uncle wanted to have a nice dinner to celebrate your first day. I thought I could whip up that roast that was in the freezer." Uncle Ben is watching the Giants game on the television. He hoots and hollers when the Giants score or curses the T.V. when the Giants mess up, which is frequently. They have a nice dinner talking about Peter's adoptive family in Japan, the Reilly's. Then he asks about Dr. Norman Osborn and his father. Aunt May and Uncle Ben reluctantly tell Peter that they had been friends in college. "Richard and Mary would always slink off to an Osborn party. I never went. May and I met around that time and we were spending a lot of time together." Ben explains. "After college we left for Europe and started our research. Your parents stayed here." Ben takes a sip of coffee. "We didn't come back until the funeral." Peter thinks on it. "You two had your life. Commander Reilly was a close friend to my father at the time. It makes sense." Peter finishes off his plate. "We are very, very proud of you Peter." Says May. "Your parents would be proud of you too." Peter smiles and stands. "Thank you Aunt May." he leans across the table and kisses her on the forehead. He stands. "I've got a ton of paperwork to read over for one of the Doctors at work." He grabs his paperwork while the couple sits at the far corner of the table in the dining room. "We love you Peter." says Uncle Ben. Peter smiles at them before retreating upstairs. "I love you too"

Once up stairs Peter looks at the paperwork.

Doctor Octavius won't even remember the paperwork he gave me look at this, a bill, a bill, a half written piece of fan-fiction, about twenty-five sheets of unknown code, a coupon for a four dollar footlong. This is nonsense!

Peter throws the paperwork onto the desk beside him.

Doctor Osborn asked me why I came back to New York, it wasn't to do his paperwork.

Peter grabs a stuffed black Duffel Bag from his closet. Most of his stuff hasn't been unpacked yet. Boxes lay around the room. He plops the bag on top of some boxes.

The creep that killed my parents is still out there and I've been waiting.

Peter takes his work clothes off.

He walks the streets and lives his life, while my father lies dead!

Peter puts on a black mask pulled from the duffel. It covers his nose and mouth and fastens in the back. He puts on a thin black hoodie.

The police halted the investigation and I need to know what happened. When I find this guy. I will be ready for him, no doubt about it.

He puts on a pair of goggles and presses a button on the side of them.

The Reilly's didn't just keep me up on my studies. They helped me, shaped me.

He pulls gauntlets out of the dufflebag with small vials of white liquid attached to them. A trigger is attached to the gauntlet.

They taught me about patience. They saw a power inside of me. They helped me to feed it and control it. Instead of ignore it and let it go out.

He attaches them to his wrists.

They taught me discipline and responsibility.

Peter finishes his outfit with black pants and special looking boots and gloves.

I have come back to New York to clean this place up and exact my revenge on the man that killed my parents.

Peter opens his window and slips outside onto the roof quietly. He makes no noise as he jumps down onto the lawn. Then runs off down the street.

Time for New York to meet Spider-Man!

Peter Parker has been living in Japan for twenty years after the deaths of his parents when he was five. While there he attended the finest schools and went to a very prestigious university. He has returned to New York to work at Oscorp, the leading name in high-tech defensive design. When he returns he takes up residence at his Aunt May's house and begins working at Oscorp as an intern. While at Oscorp he meets Mary Jane Watson, a biologist that he had known when he was a child. The two hit it off until she asks some awkward question that makes him lament about his loss. He timidly explains that he hasn't been in New York since his parents were killed by a horrible maniac twenty years prior.

He is also introduced to Dr. Thompson, the youngest department lead at Oscorp. His department has frequently produced some of the most innovative and brilliant ideas in Oscorp. Thompson has a group of assistants that follow him around. He thinks he is a hot shot and has his assistants call him "Flash". Dr. Thompson notices Peter and Mary Jane and decides to intervene making Peter do menial tasks while flexing his departments achievements to him.

Peter Parker is saved only when Dr. Norman Osborn intervenes. "Dr. Thompson, I think we can treat our new interns better than this." He takes Peter Parker aside and has a discussion with him while Dr. "Flash" Thompson has talks with Mary Jane. "Peter," Dr. Osborn says "You're the son of Richard Parker, am I right?" while extending his hand for a shake. Peter hesitates for a moment and then shakes his hand. "You knew my father sir?" Osborn laughs "Knew him, we were practically brothers!" Dr. Osborn puts his hand around Parker's shoulder and leads him to his office. "I noticed your resume when it came across my desk." Norman looks down at Peter. Dr. Osborn stands a good foot taller than him. "Your Aunt June..." Peter interrupts, "Sorry doctor, Aunt May." Norman laughs again. "Yes, your Aunt May brought this over to us months ago." Peter just stares forward "You should thank her, my boy, she wanted to secure your employment." He smiles. "...and with the economy the way it is today. Well... bless her." Peter gulps. He can't help but feel a bit breathless when he is around Dr. Osborn. "Please Peter, step into my office. Let's talk about your future!" He holds his office door open while Peter graciously goes inside.

"What were you two talking about anyway?" Dr. Thompson asks Mary Jane. "You were laughing, was he funny?" Mary Jane looks over to Peter going into Dr. Osborn's office. "He was funny 'Flash'!" Mary Jane retorts stabbing Dr. Thompsons goofy grin. "Babe!" He spits back. "You know you can call me Gene!" Mary Jane tries to walk away but he grabs her by the bicep. A few people look at him and then go back to working. "Dr. Thompson! Please let go of my arm!" Mary Jane replies yanking her arm. He tightens his grip then leans in close to her and says. "Your buddy, your little funny buddy, is dangerous. For you... For me and for Oscorp. His working here is a problem for all of us. Don't say anything to anyone. Dr. Osborn told me that in secrecy. I don't know why he's here but believe me don't get attached!" He let's go of Mary Jane's arm and walks out of the room. Mary Jane stands there stunned looking at Dr. Norman Osborn's door.

Punishment Corps. #2 - Fear the Gun 2 of 2

Continued from Punishment Corps. #1

“So these are going to do the trick right? Kingpin wants to see his investment in a positive light.” Rilo Keller has done this a thousand times before. He knows that he physically isn’t imposing but his title is. Rilo has a brown suit on and looks to be a bit out of his league. However, the cigar in his right hand commands respect. He may not be the largest man in the room, but everyone is weary of him.

The two men that he is talking to are some fresh college chemists. They are sitting on barrels in the center of the room. A single light shines down onto their confused and scared demeanor. A backpack sits in front of each of them.

The room that they are in is cold and murky. The air is stale and the light is almost non-existent. Aside from the three previously mentioned men. Thugs of every shape and size line the walls. Preston is one of these men. He is visibly nervous but its camouflaged by the darkness. He feels around in his jacket pockets and the cold steel of his revolver keeps him calm, for now.

“So how about you two take one yourselves?” Rilo asks while pointing to the pair.

The two chemists look at each other nervously.

“Sir,” one of them speaks up. “If we take one of these then were gonna die!”

Rilo reaches down in front of them and picks up the two backpacks. He throws one to each of the chemists.

“I said take one!” Rilo says deadpan.

The two men swallow nervously and unzip the backpacks.

“Connor,” says one of the chemists to the other. “This is going to be dangerous.”

Connor nods and Rilo urges the duo again. They both take a pill. Everyone in the room lets out a nervous sigh.

Preston has his eyes closed. “You can do this” he mutters under his breath.

Frank Castle, adorned with a glowing yellow ring that surrounds his body with a yellow light, stands in front of Basilus who is still hovering in front of him. Frank can feel his eyes getting heavy, and then "POW" a burst of energy. Yellow light burst out of every pore on his body. His feet are lifted off of the ground and he finds himself hovering in place, just like Basilus. Frank can see everything in the surrounding area. He could look in one direction and then just keep tuning in closer and closer. It was all so clear. He could hear every voice. It was booming at first but then became finely tuned in. He was hearing everything and he could switch it off just by thinking about it. Stunned by these new powers Frank stared at the yellow ring on his left hand.

"What is this?" was all that Frank could let out.

Basilus finally stopped glowing and so did Frank. He gently came back to the roofs surface and regained his footing. Instantly he grabbed Basilus by the collar of his robes.

"You better start talkin' and fast!" Grumbled Castle.

Basilus eyes were glazing over. His breath was becoming labored.

"There're are others" Basilus let out with a harsh cough. "other Guardians."

“Guardians? Is that you? Are you a Guardian?” asked Frank.

“Take the lantern. It is your ba.. batt.. battery.” Basilus squeaked out.

“What are you talking about?” Asked Frank again urgently.

The alien’s blue head was becoming heavy, it kept nodding back. Frank had to hold it up. The aliens body was becoming weaker by the moment. His eyes are fading to a normal white and blue combination.

"Beware of Para.. P... Par.. P.. P... ." panted the alien. However, that was it. The small blue body went limp inside his robe. His eyes closed.

Frank laid the alien's body back down on the rooftop. He stood there for a moment before a voice called out from behind him.

"Hey! What's going on up here?!" the voice called.

Frank could feel the fear in his voice. The yellow ring sparkled with excitement.

Castle keeps his back turned to the voice.

"If you're tearin' up my roof, chief. Imma tear up your ass!" calls the voice again.

Frank turns around and instantly produces two glowing yellow AK-47's in each hand.

There is a man standing on the fire escape with a .45 caliber gun. He is a rotund man. Upon seeing the glowing machine guns he instantly screams out in fear and shoots his gun. The man's bullet hits Frank in the chest but nothing happens. Frank fires his guns instinctively. He grits his teeth and enjoys his kill. He hears the rounds going off.

It feels so natural, thinks Frank.

He sees the bullets flying. The man's lifeless corpse falls onto the fire escape. Then it hits him. Surprised Frank stops firing and the guns are gone. Vanished. He looks at his hands for a moment in wonder. Then he feels his chest. Nothing. The man shot at him. Didn’t he? He runs over to the man on the fire escape. The man’s large body had been torn to shreds. “Why did you shoot?” asks Frank rhetorically.

He hears bullets in the distance. Frank turns his head and looks in the direction of the gunfire. He can make out a blue sedan squealing its tires about 15 blocks away. He gets that feeling again and shoots like a bullet across town. The city rushing by block after block under his body. He catches up with the sedan in no time. He flies behind it for a bit and watches it turn into an alleyway.

“Alright, Alright, Alright. Preston has some bread to bring home tonight!” Says Preston as he brings his 1987 blue sedan to a stop in a clearly uninhabited and dark alleyway. He reaches behind him and pulls two backpacks up into the front seat with him. He sets them in the passenger seat. One of the backpacks has a revolver sticking out of it. Sirens can be heard in the distance. He fiddles with the rear-view mirror and notices a flash of yellow light behind the car. It catches him by surprise and he darts his neck around looking behind him down the alley. Nothing. “Shoot man, ‘bout to give yourself a heart attack!” The sirens are closer. Preston grabs the closest backpack. The grey material of the backpack is covered with blood. With a quick and cheerful sigh, Preston unzips the backpack revealing hundreds of little grey capsules. “Hit the motherload tonight!” he says as he zips the backpack up again. He watches in the rearview as two cop cars zoom past the alleyway with their sirens blaring. “Let’s hit some tunes man.” he says to himself as he starts the car again and puts it auxillary. Then he turns on the car radio. It buzzes to life in the final few minutes of a segment on a talk radio station. Preston puts the backpacks in the backseat of the car and covers them with a towel. He puts his seat back and lets out a large breath as he closes his eyes.

The car shakes from side to side for a second and this jerks Preston awake. The roof of the car moans with pressure. With a quick glance at the clock he sees that its almost six. He had only been asleep for twenty minutes at most. “Who the fu..” He mutters as he tries to peer out of his windows. The sky was still dark. Except for a light above the car. He tried to see what the light was but couldn’t make it out. “Who the hell is up there?” questioned Preston to himself. He started rolling down his window then stopped when a voice called out from above the car. “Preston Watkins?” quickly he began trying to roll the window up while fidgeting with the keys in the starter. “Who the hell?!” screamed Preston as he revs the engine back on. The car shakes again as whatever is on top of the car lifts off. The car begins backing up to the street, he backs into a trashcan, and then spins the wheel, backing into some stacked newspapers. Suddenly, a giant hammer made of yellow light smashes the front of his sedan. Completely crushing and flattening the engine. The car, of course, comes to a violent halt. Preston is violently tossed around and hits his face on his steering wheel. The driver side door gets ripped off of its hinges and Preston is grabbed by a giant fist made of yellow light and pressed firmly against the brick wall of the alley. He looked down and noticed his feet dangling about fifty feet above the asphalt. He can clearly see now the horrible wreck of his mothers car. “Oh... Oh crap man!” He says nearly in shock. Then his attention turns to the Punisher hovering right in front of him. Yellow light covering his body and streaming out of a ring on his finger. Instantly fear creeps up his body. The Punishers eyes were black with yellow retinas. They were burning with a strange illumination.

“Preston Watkins, Age 31, Born Jamaica, Queens. Pickpocketing, Shoplifting, Car Theft, Burglary, Assault, Random acts of Vandalism, Rape, and Murder. Now we can add organized crime to that list!” The Punisher sounded off the list of broken laws in a quick and professional fashion. “Now, how do you plead?”

“W...Wh... Wha...” Preston tried to figure the words in his head. How did he know these things. He had only been arrested twice.

“HOW DO YOU PLEAD!?” Boom’s Castle.

“Guilty!” says Preston finally.

“Good!” Exclaims Frank as he aims a yellow gun at Preston’s head. The gun shines brightly Preston shakes. “Wh.. What is going on man? Put me down man!” pleaded Preston.

“This city is overrun with scum like you.” Starts Frank, “The heroes are too busy fighting off world all of the time to take care of your kind. That’s where we come in. With this ring we can really clean up the streets and erase screw-up’s like you. With enough men and time, we can rid the world of your kind.”

“This was it man! This was my last hit! Please!” Preston began sobbing.

“While you slept this ring told me all about you Preston. It told me about the children that you murdered in Louisiana.”

Preston stopped breathing and sobbing for a moment and his eyes started getting really wide. “You remember that right Preston?”

Preston just stared straight ahead.

“Of course you do son, you raped them. Remember?”

With that The Punisher squeezes off a round and drops Preston’s lifeless body to the alley below..

To be continued.

Punishment Corps. - The Lanterns come to the Marvel Universe.

Frank Castle slept restlessly that night. The cold New York air was drafting though the single room apartment all evening. Visions of William, his son, flew through his head. Playing catch, eating ice-cream, bleeding out on the pavement. He would clutch his sheets and grit his teeth so hard that it would shake him awake. After finally drifting off again he would get other visions. Visions of Maria, his wife. Visions of her beautiful, soft skin. He could see when Frank took Maria to Ocean Point. It was their fourth date or so. Frank began kissing her, then he moved his way up her shirt. He felt something hot and sticky. He jerked his hand out from beneath her shirt to reveal that it was covered in blood. Removing the shirt affirmed his worst feeling as he stared at eleven gunshot wounds piercing her flesh. Maria was dead. Frank awoke and grabbed the alarm clock, he noticed the time was flashing 3:05 am. He threw his alarm clock against the wall.

Six blocks away two men are sitting in an alleyway. They are smoking something out of a long thin clear tube. "This is so clean," says the man on the right while letting out a cough. "You gotta try this." He passes the tube to the other man. The man takes the pipe, his hands are shaking. “I don’t know, Reggie,” he squeaks. "Don't worry man! It hits so easy," says Reggie in a sing-song voice. The other man lifts the pipe to his trembling lips and takes a long drag. His eyes bulge out of his face as he tries to hold in the smoke. "Yeah, Brian! Yeah, boy!" chants the first. Brian lets the smoke out with a loud and terrible sounding cough. Reggie laughs while snatching up the pipe from Brian. "You always were a girl!" Reggie exclaims. He pockets the pipe and looks down into his lap where a purse lay open. The strap appears to be broken and they are pawing through its contents. "Who knew stuck up chicks blow smoke?" Brian ponders aloud. Reggie exclaims, "Jackpot!" as he pulls a small wad of twenty dollar bills out of the purse. They exchange a quick high-five.

A frustrated Frank Castle climbed out of his window and onto the fire escape. His breath was visible in the night air, but this didn't affect Castle and he follows his routine by grabbing a cigarette and lighting it. He stood with one hand on the banister looking out at the city. Letting out a sigh he mutters, "disgusting." The streets below him were running rampant with crime. He had for years fought this crime with extreme prejudice. Delivering his brand of justice to the scum that streaks this city with filth. Viciously eliminating criminals like those that had taken his wife and child ten years prior. He takes a long drag from his cigarette and grabs at the sniper rifle that rests underneath his apartment window. While holding the cigarette in his mouth he hoists the sniper rifle up and lines his eye up with sight. “They took Maria and William.”

Frank began by scanning the New York Skyline.

No smoke.

He thought of his first kill after his wife had died. The man pleaded with Frank, but Frank knew that if he had let the man go he would have killed someone. This was without a doubt in his mind. The man cried and urinated. He pleaded and bribed. Nothing swayed Frank. His mind had been set.

Frank blows out a large plume of smoke. He then scans the central park area. He reaches back into his apartment and switches on a police scanner.

It’s quiet.

Strange.

Frank moves his sight to the alleyways around his apartment. He could get a pretty clear view of just about every alleyway in a four block radius from this apartment. He could make out a clear five blocks from the roof.

There has to be something going on.

A drug deal even.

Nothing.

The criminals that Frank would take on all knew him. They knew exactly who he was. They never counted on him showing up. They never anticipated The Punisher being there to make sure they kept in line. The Punisher was the last thing that these thugs would see. In jail they told tales of him. When he was locked up for a brief time, it was utter hell for the other inmates. They were afraid of him. They were afraid of Frank Castle. The Punisher.

Frank blew out another plume of smoke.

Then he noticed it.

A yellow light in the sky behind the clouds.

Lightning? Maybe. However, this looked a lot smaller than just any lightning.

Then something fell through the clouds.

Frank squints and can barely make out the figure of a man falling.

“Damn! That’s a person!” exclaims Castle. As he climbs the fire escape to the roof, he looks in the direction of the fallen man and can see a yellow glow about six blocks from where Frank is now.

Frank runs back down the fire escape and darts into his apartment. He reaches into the corner and pulls out his usual Punisher attire. He pulled on his skull t-shirt and carefully chose a few good, low-profile handguns, a few sub-machine guns, a dozen shuriken, brass knuckles, and a black jack.

Then he stealthily ran out of his apartment, via fire escape.

When on the roof, he began moving in the direction of the fallen man. The yellow light had already began to fade. “Not too far,” muttered Frank. He knew these rooftops and could make it to that building in no time.

Surrounded by shrapnel and debris, Basilus lays breathing heavily. That trip nearly killed him. He lifted his right hand and noticed the yellow lantern ring on his hand. His mouth began to twitch upward in a smile. However, he passed out before he could do it.

He was slowly slipping in and out of consciousness when two men approached him.

"...told you, Brian!" called one of the men to the other. "Something crashed up here. I mean someone."

The two men approached the blue-skinned visitor with wonder. It was breathing slowly. It had human features, but the proportions were smaller. It had a full head of white hair and it was draped in red robes with yellow trim. On his right hand he wore a yellow ring.

"It's an alien!" exclaimed the one called Brian.

The two men approached the blue stranger.

"Were going to be millionaires, Reg!" The men high-five.

"Let's see if he bleeds blue!" said Reg, flipping open a switchblade.

The two men laugh as they close in on the fallen Basilus.

“I want that ring,” says the bossy one.

"NOT TODAY!" boomed a voice from the shadows.

The two men spun around and from the shadows stepped The Punisher. A Sub-Machine gun brandished in both hands.

"Drop the knife scumbag."

The man throws the knife aside.

Frank approaches the two men.

“Get on the floor, now!” exclaims Frank.

“W-What?” says the meek looking man.

“I said GET ON THE FLOOR!” yells Frank, machine guns poised.

The two drop to the ground and Frank approaches them.

Simultaneously the two men spin around on the floor, each with a pistol.

Frank doesn’t hesitate and opens fire on the two men.

Splattering their insides on the roof of the building.

“Good Riddance.”

Frank turns his attention to the blue man on the ground.

"Now, what the hell are you?" asks Frank.

Basilus is still slipping in and out of consciousness. He can barely make out Frank. He reaches his right hand up the hand with the yellow ring. Frank takes hold of it and kneels down.

"Where did you come from?"

He looks in the sky behind them, but the crack in the clouds is no more. When Frank looks back at the man on the roof he catches his eyes. They are completely black with yellow retinas. "What the hell!" this catches Frank by surprise.

"Frank Castle of Earth-616"

The words seem to be coming out of nowhere.

Frank looks around in wonder and drops the man's hand.

"Who's there?"

"Frank Castle of Earth-616"

Frank spins around again.

"Yeah, who do you think it is?" snarks Frank.

There is silence for a while and then the voice is booming. The alien on the ground lifts off of the floor in front of Frank. His mouth opens and his head falls back. A yellow light beams out of it and seems to emanate from his body. Frank stumbles back a bit covering his face from the bright light.

"Frank Castle of Earth-616, You have the ability to instill great fear into those who you find guilty."

Frank drops his arm and the light is becoming easier to look at. The alien has his hand out again.

"Welcome to the Punishment Corps."

to be continued.

BAM! - Superhero Trading Card Game.

Okay so my friends and I are big fans of DC and Marvel card games. However, we are poor and can't afford them. So ever since we were little we would create our own games. Creating each card and making up our own rules. We created a DC Game that I think I prefer to play over Vs. or Overpower. I felt that the problem with those games was that they had a serious lack of marketing. On top of a really complex play structure. The key to making these games work however, is just to simplify it.

We are purposing an online trading card game that focuses on deck/team building. You would register with a site. Download the tabletop app. You get fifty cards for free to start out with. You can then purchase packs of ten cards for 4.99. You can also be social with other players and see what cards are up for trade on the auction block.

There are a few different types of cards.

Character - These are your bread and butter. Each character has different powers and abilities. They also have their Energy and Strength displayed on the card. These cards can be equipped with gear or special powers. They are your main fighting force and will be on your battlefield. A character card cost is equal to that of the character's Energy. Wunder-man has 10 Energy and 10 Strength so he costs 10 Energy to play or two location cards. Once he runs out of Energy the character is removed from the battlefield and placed into the Graveyard.

Special Appearance - These are special Character cards that can only be played on the battlefield. They have no energy and are only active for the one battle. When the battle is over the character is put into the Graveyard.

Location - Location cards are what give you energy. When you play a location card you get five energy per round that you own that card. These also act as Battlefields and if you are the attacking team you must choose an opponents Location card to attack. That turns the Loacation into a Battlefield.

more to come later.

It's raining outside...

So it's raining outside and I am just sitting here reading some comics. I might play Star Wars: The Old Republic later, I might just watch the news. NO! I got it. I am going to read some comics. I still have Earth 2, Animal Man, Swamp Thing, and Justice League to get through. Then I can get caught up on Saga. That Brian K. Vaughn is one talented writer. I really dig his work. I had just heard about a run that he had on Swamp Thing and I think I might check that one out.
