Action in both execution and scale. Space battles, land battles, lightsaber duels and yes, even the podracing part was better than the ROTJ speeder scenes.

Aesthetics aside, it also presented the Jedi order and the clash of Sith vs Jedi better. Well of course, the original trilogy did not have the luxury of showing that. But yeah, the contrasting (and sometimes similar) ideologies were fleshed out more in the prequel trilogies.

I could also add the minority (for lack of a better word) roles. It was not a world full of white male people. Well the original trilogy was not as well but if you think about it, Padme had a bigger role than Leia, Mace had a bigger role than Lando, Jango was literally everywhere, etc. But then again, you got some stereotypes with Watto and the Viceroys and whatnot so it kinda steps backward as well.

Steve Reeves and perhaps for the lols, Hulk Hogan. But honestly, Cavill is a great choice right now, I would not pick anyone that has not played Superman from any time period to replace him.

@spambot: Get Carter, Zulu, Italian Job, The Man Who Would Be King, Harry Brown, Ipcress File, etc. He may have stopped doing a lot of action films but during his younger days, most of his films were considered action. Only the younger generation does not see him as an action star.

@lvenger Wanna take this on? You have been the most logical MOS critic I know and you give valid points (though I sure as hell don't agree with you! hehe!) so maybe you could give us some good insight from your side.

I love romantic comedies. Dean Cain! Hehe!

Ok. Being serious here. In terms of preference, I like Cavill more. He just looks the part and his presence screams "super" and "invincible". The design, being newer, also appeals to me more. I don't see dark. I don't see gritty. I see a powerhouse that has human aspects. I see a symbol of hope that would defend us and kick the asses of some alien invaders or whatever threat. Flawed maybe. But doing his best to help the human race.

In terms of impact and significance, Reeve takes it. He took George Reeves' version and amped the presence to an all time high. If Cavill emitted a powerhouse aura, Reeve had this epic and timeless feel. It should be noted that artists, from Perez to Byrne to Jurgens, started to draw their Superman based on the look of Reeve and the practice continued even after his death. Just look at Gary Frank's (and sometimes Reis as well) rendition of Superman. I doubt Cavill would overcome that massive impact Reeve had. It also helps that while Reeve and his first Superman film were almost universally accepted (though some critics called him too thin at that time), Cavill had a very polarizing film.

One of the hope-destroying facts of this workd is that people only focus on the negative and then stereotypes are born based on the nagativities.

And then an even bigger problem is when the stereotype is pointed out, somehow the reveresal is so huge that any criticism made, no matter how legitimate, becomes branded as ___phobia and then the issues would not be discussed.

No one in the current canon except for The Father and his kind.
