Re-Casting The Star Wars Prequels

NOTE: This is coming from someone who LOVED the Star Wars prequels and holds them in the HIGHEST regard. Hell, I consider Episode II and III to be some of the best movies of all time. But, just for the hell of it, I decided to do a fan casting of how the Star Wars prequels would have looked like if completely different people had the roles in the prequels. So that said, every role here will be different from the roles of the PT. (Except for Director and Screenwriter George Lucas...The man IS Star Wars, and he is the only one who should be able to tell these stories) MORE TO BE ADDED LATER

List items

  • Leonardo DiCaprio.

Yeah, this one was actually hard to pick as I really do love Hayden Christensen as Anakin...No, I'm dead serious. But anyway, that's irrelevant. Anakin himself is a rather immature character, filled with fear and anxiety, while also possessing a rather boyish shyness and a deep sense of compassion and love. Enter Leonardo Dicaptio, and anybody who has seen Titanic knows that he can play the naive and tortured teenager pretty damn well. I don't think he'd be as good as Christensen, but he'd do a DAMN good job nonetheless.

LINE THAT HE WOULD NAIL: "I wish that I could just, wish my feelings away!...But I can't."

  • Benicio Del Toro.

Actually, I really wanted Ken Watanabe for this role, as I do feel he could definitely pull of the wise-sensei personality of Obi Wan as well as his serenity. However, Obi Wan was originally white, and while I have no problem with race changes, I do if it ruins continuity. That said, I chose Del Toro because he is probably the best actor around when it comes to portraying pure compassion and tragedy. Just look at those soulful eyes of his for God's sakes. He would make Revenge of the Sith all the more tragic, and I could really see him in that father role for Anakin. He also has that reassuring smile that would work perfect for Obi Wan when he's comforting Anakin.

LINE THAT HE WOULD NAIL: "It can't be... It can't be...I can't watch any more!"

  • Bryce Dallas Howard.

As much as I loved Natalie Portman as Padme, I really do think that Bryce Dallas Howard could have done a better job. She has Padme's tomboyish attitude, her intelligence, her compassion, not to mention she's a STUNNER. If she were to get this role, I really do think she would become an even more mainstream name today, as this would be one of her first film roles. Anyone who has seen her in The Village knows that she can portray heartbreak and devastation really well.

LINE THAT SHE WOULD NAIL: "I don't know you anymore! Anakin, you're breaking my heart! You're going down a path I can't follow!"

  • Anthony Hopkins.

Again, another very hard decision as I really loved McDiarmid in this role, and consider his performance to be the best in the prequels (I love them all though) That said, Hopkins has it all. He can be charismatic, deceptive, sadistic, sociopathic, manipulative, self centered, intelligent. He would be no McDiarmid...But he would be DAMN good.

LINE THAT HE WOULD NAIL: "Anakin, if one is to understand the great mystery one must study all of it's aspects not just the dogmatic narrow view of the Jedi"

  • Jason Issacs.

The ultimate British douchebag bad guy. But, in all seriousness, even if Issacs is significantly younger than Lee, he would nail Dooku. Issacs often gives of an arrogant, cruel personality in his performances while also maintaining a rather "civilized" nature, which would be perfect for Dooku.

LINE THAT HE WOULD NAIL: "Good...Twice the pride...Double the fall."

  • Djimon Hounsou.

One of the most underrated actors in Hollywood, Djimon Hounsou is also one of the most versatile. The man is capable of playing ANYTHING, though he thrives in period piece and sci-fi roles. I'm not sure if there is a bigger period piece or sci-fi movie than Star Wars. That said, Djimon can definitely give of very serious performances filled with anger and fury, while also maintaining serenity most of the time. This would fit Windu perfectly...And lord knows he would bring his A game for the attempted assassination of Palpatine.

LINE THAT HE WOULD NAIL: "I am going to end this, once and for all!"

  • Andy Serkis.

The king of motion capture and voice acting, it would be interesting to see how his performance as Grievous would compare to his performance as Gollum. We've seen him pull of menacing and cruel before, and he definitely has the bone chilling voice that would be perfect for Grievous

LINE THAT HE WOULD NAIL: "You're lightsabers will make a fine addition to my collection!"
