Joss Whedon is one of the best writers ever. He writes characters that are easy to care about and who always make the wittiest of quips, and his X-Men stories here are no exception. His X-Men run is easily the best I've ever read.
Post-apocalyptic futures are always fun.
Brilliantly told story that deals with themes of love, betrayal, and struggling with inner demons.
This is still the best solo Wolverine story there is. Chris Claremont and Frank Miller show Wolverine as a failed samurai in the first of many Wolverine stories set in Japan.
Though Claremont can tend to be a bit wordy, I thought this was a great finale for his long run. It provides a menacing yet sympathetic Magneto fighting for mutant peace, at the expense of Homo Sapien life, with a little bit of revenge thrown in on the side. That recipe always makes for a fun story.
Though I initially had mixed feelings about them finally revealing Wolverine's origin, I thought this story was really well told and beautifully illustrated.
Best Marvel/DC crossover I've read. Too bad they don't make more of these.
This storyline has one of the best Wolverine-Sabretooth fights I've ever seen, with a powerless Wolverine being hunted by Sabretooth (who of course still has his powers) as Wolverine fights to save his friends and possibly learn the truth about his past.
When I first read Morrison's run, I thought it was a little overrated, but now, after re-reading it a few times, I would list it as one of the best X-Men runs I've read. It's not perfect. It has its plot holes (such as how can Xorn be Magneto even though he showed a different set of powers early on in the story), but overall Morrison's run is exciting, action-packed, and contains some great character development (especially with Beast). And E for Extinction is a great start to an overall great run. I still say Whedon's and Claremont's runs are better though.
I also really enjoyed Mark Millar's entire run on Ultimate X-Men
Brilliant finale to Millar's run.
This story provides some great character growth for Kitty. Also, it's always fun to see Wolverine return to Japan.
Really liking Spencer's run so far. It's like an extended stay in Claremont's Days of the Future Past timeline. And I also love that death matters in this universe. It's no trite thing when people get killed, as evidenced the short supply of heroes that are left for this world.
While the last few issues of Grant Morrison's run are good, these last two storylines (Planet X and Here Comes Tomorrow) are nowhere near as good as what came before in my opinion.
"Theories of Relativity," Issue #4 (1993 Volume)
Love what I've read of Ellis' Excalibur stories. I've always been a sucker for a good Kitty Pryde story, and his stories seems to feature her quite prominently.
Another really good story, though not quite as good as Millar's run, nor Spencer's current run.
