The confrontation between Spidey and Green Goblin (Harry) is amazing. It's a very tense, emotional, and suspenseful issue with an amazing battle between the two aforementioned characters at the end.
This was a defining moment in Spidey's life. It was also a very gutsy decision by the writer.
I love all I've read of Bendis' Ultimate Spider-Man run. I've not read all of it yet (I'm still in the Peter Parker years), but it's definitely one of the best portrayals of Spider-man that I've read.
This three-parter is a great story that has Carnage going on a killing spree, and Spider-Man having team up with Venom to stop him. David Michelinie is one of my favorite Spider-Man writers. He really had a grasp on the personality of Spider-Man. This three-parter is one of my favorite stories from him.
JMS demonstrates in his first story arc on Spider-Man that he certainly understands each of the characters. He delivers an amazing story, with a great balance of tension (both with a new Spidey villain and with the other characters in Peter Parker's life) and humor. This story is a must-have for any Spidey fan. I only regret that this is the only story arc by JMS that I've read thus far (though I have read plenty of people who have said that his run goes downhill after this... I'd still like to read more of it all the same).
The Hobgoblin has an amazing fight with Spidey after Hobgoblin and Rose kidnap Mary Jane and a very pregnant Liz Allen in order to get Harry Osborn's attention and cooperation. An amazing story by Tom DeFalco.
I absolutely love Peter David's vision of a futuristic Spidey (as my username probably makes somewhat obvious). I've not read all of his run yet, but I love what I've read of it. And I always make sure to look for issues of it whenever I'm at a used bookstore or some such place.
I love Dan Slott's story on what it would be like if everyone in New York got spider powers. It's a modern day Spidey classic. I think Dan Slott will be remembered as one of the best Spidey writers (despite the hate he's been getting for a more recent storyline... which I haven't read yet but fully intend to).
Stan Lee wrote some of the best issues of Spider-Man, and this story arc is certainly an excellent example of his work.
A classic from the Stan Lee/Steve Ditko that highlights Spidey's determination to defeat the bad guys and get a cure back to his extremely ill Aunt May.
The classic Stan Lee tale where Peter Parker tries giving up Spider-Man after getting fed up with all that he has to put up with... that is until he remembers why he became Spidey in the first place.
