Even if Cyclops does get a power upgrade or adjustment, it shouldn't be anything too convoluted. More isn't always better. Look at Wolverine's "hot claws". Those seem to have been dropped rather unceremoniously. Or at least not bothered with at all since being introduced.

I do hope Marvel would be definitive in their explanation of his powers though. Are they solar powered? Powered by ambient energy? Or are his eyes merely portals for the "punch dimension"? IMO the punch dimension is needlessly silly. Plus it contradicts those story moments where he was left "spent" by exerting too much optic blast force.

Also, they should just take Whedon's lead and make the lack of control over his powers a psychological issue. With powered healers and resurrections, there shouldn't be any reason why physical damage to his brain will still be an issue. But if the issue is tied to what makes him who he is. The need for control. A distinct part of his personality. That i can get behind.

While I wouldn't say this is the best example of "full force", this is my favourite in terms of visual epicness and story use.

The only good thing in AVX

Awesome. Though I think if Cyclops really wanted to go all out, Cap will be missing the entire bottom half of his body. And perhaps his wingtips.

Great finale, I have a few questions:

  • How did Moira and Logan stayed alive for one thousand years ??
  • What exactly was what Moira never saw as the real enemy for mutants ? Super humans ?
  • So even after seeing and knowing all she learned from Life 6, she still failed to prevent the creation of Nimrod once again in life 9 ?

Moira prolonged her life by getting blood transfusions from Logan. To quote the Librarian, "You've done well... surviving. Fortunately you two have the same blood type..." A bit too convenient? Perhaps. But thats what it seems to be.

The "real enemy" refers to humans evolving themselves faster than humans. Previously she was focused on just the Sentinels, Nimrod, etc.

As for her 9th life. From what we've been presented, I don't think she was equipped with enough information from her 6th - 8th lives to know how to prevent Nimrod's creation. It was only in partnering with Apocalypse that she and the rest of the X-Men were capable of attaining the knowledge of Nimrod's creation (when he "came online")

@hawk2916: Religious beliefs is an area that you can't reason with or against, because its such a personal thing. I can be religious in my own life, but i don't need the fictional characters i read about to play by the same rules. For me the real issue comes in my discomfort that there might be no true versions of these characters. For example, if the 5 go rogue, they could possibly make exact duplicates of characters. Say for example they mistakenly resurrect Jean Grey when they falsely assume she has been killed. So when the not-dead Jean Grey turns up, there are two of them? Which is "our" Jean Grey? Is the second considered a clone? Or are they both Jean Grey? And if thats the case, are we as readers ok with that?

I'm actually quite surprised by all the negativity here.

Don't get me wrong, everyone is entitled to their opinion. And im not saying one's opinion has more value than another's. I'm just surprised by it.

Overall, I am really excited to see where the X-Men and Marvel's mutants go from here. Previously, you can kinda guess where the writers are going with each story. Mostly because we've become so familiar with the "X-Men formula".

The only thing thats still buggin me though...

What about the souls of the X-Men? Is merely uploading the backed up mind of an individual into a cloned body considered the same person? I think of Ben Reily... and how he essentially has Peter's cloned body, and a copy of his memories. Yet, Ben isn't considered Peter. Do you think Hickman will ever address this? Or is he gonna gloss over it? Perhaps an atheist might consider the mind to be the soul of a person. But what about the religious? what about Nightcrawler? The way he and Wolverine spoke on their mission seems to indiciate that they didn't expect to be resurrected. Unless he was thinking, should they fail, Krakoa was gonna be the next target...

Of course @hawk2916 might be right, and these clones aren't even the real X-Men at all. Their personalities do seem to have regressed to "happier times". But then again, even before House of X, there has been a growing sentiment from readers and editorial to go back to that "classic" X-Men feel.

Come what may... I hope we get to keep Hickman's Mr Sinister though :p

Hasn't Mr Sinister's technology, which apparently Xavier and Magneto have, been able to clone mutants with their prior memories intact for decades?? I mean, Riptide is murdered by Colossus during Mutant Massacre and returns in Inferno and recalls Colossus killing him...why is this cloning thing a bid deal all of the sudden now?? And Sinister didn't even need Goldballs....

Many of the X-men have augmentations, including the ones that died. Cyclops's powers are the current way they are due to slight brain damage, did Xavier damage his brain again?? Because if so, that's F'd up.

Do they have to graft adamantium to Wolverine again in an excruciating process??? Does Xavier have to mess with his memories again?? Because if so, that's F'd up

I think the big difference between Sinister's cloning methods and what House of X is doing is that Sinister can only have the memories of the characters up to the point when the source material was collected/stolen. Whereas Prof X is using Cerebro as a kind of "cloud storage" to have the most up to date essence of a person at any given time.

As for Cyclops and Wolverine...

It was put fourth by Joss Whedon that it wasnt just the physical damage from the fall that made him lose control of his powers but a large part of it is psychological trauma resulting in a kind of coping mechanism. Therefore the inability to control his optic beams would be part of the "mental" essence housed within cerebro.

As for Wolverine, Prof X cant just turn off his pain receptors while Magneto puts in the adamantium.

The big question for me is... what about notions of THE SOUL. Although "putting the soul back into its mutant shell" was mentioned, not everyone might be comfortable with the notion of the mind = the soul. But that being said, this same thing has happened to other characters in the past. Tony Stark being the most recent one i can recall. So I guess its just accepted in the Marvel Universe as such. But i seriously wonder what a religious character like Nightcrawler thinks of this. Which brings me to my second question... did all the X-Men know that they can be resurrected? The conversation Nightcrawler and Wolverine had prior to their deaths seems to indicate that they either didn't know or they weren't 100% confident that they will be given the chance to be resurrected.

All in all, House of X has definitely shaken me out of my comfort zone. But i actually in the frame of mind right now that sees that as a good thing. The X-Men were really starting to become, dare i say, boring. The stories being told were getting really repetitive. Hate and feared. Extinction level threat. overcoming the odds. wash and repeat.

when mr sinister said "serf", whats a serf?

I believe its a term used for 'peasants' or 'commoners'.

In the Image comic LAZARUS, the Serf refers to "skilled labourers" within society.

am i the only one who doesnt like powers of X/powers of 10???? aside from that one moira book where u find out she is a mutant of reincarnation

I'm actually liking both books quite a bit. I must say i'm enjoying HOX more than POX though. Mostly because we have no reason to be emotionally invested in the far flung future bits. But I do believe that this is all building to something.

oh and btw, Hickman's Mr Sinister is brilliant! Ever since he wrote Sinister in Secret Wars ("how very trashy"), I've been hoping for more. Previously, Sinister just across as any number of comic book villains. But Hickman has injected a voice and character to him that i can now see him as the X-Men's "Loki".
