X-ceptional X-women

Here is my list for the top 25 X-women in the history of the X-men. As the title suggests these exceptional women have really made a name for themselves and blazed a trail for female superheroes. As a young woman I still find a lot of inspiration from these characters and have high hope for them in the future of comic books.

List items

  • My one true heroine. She is the reason I became an X-men fan and is the most iconic and historic character on this list. Her creation set her apart from all her counterparts, giving women of colour, a presence and a voice. She is one of the X-men's greatest leaders and will surely become an amazing Avenger.

  • The original X-woman, who's blazed the first trail. I really adore Jean but her connection to the Phoenix has always been a double-edged sword. It makes her one of the most powerful beings in the Marvel Universe but it also makes to much too handle so she is currently in the White Hot Room ready for a rebirth. Maybe this is her year.

  • She has really grown into herself over the years and has always been one of the best and brightest among the X-men. It's no surprise she now is the headmistress of Wolverine's new school, along side him. And only the future can contain her potential.

  • The best thing to come out of The Mutant Massacre was Psylocke's initiation into the X-men. Her character has been through a lot of physical transitions but her mind has remained resolute and pure. She has now reached omega level mastery of her telepathy and telekinesis, and serves both side of the X-men schism.

  • The former White Queen of the Hellfire has proven herself a worthy X-men over the years. From her first foray with as a teacher and mentor of the neXt generation to joining the X-men and falling in love with Cyclops. This diamond in the rough really found her way as she rose to become the X-men's premminent psychic.

  • My second favourite X-character, who continues to impresses me and others with her achievements and constant triumphs over adversity. She has become leader, a Valkyrie, a SHIELD agent, a teacher, and X-men. But now as a depowered mutant she and her New Mutants have chosen to lead a life where they can integrate with the world but still be a part of the X-family.

  • Mutant and magical. That's why I love this girl. I might have not liked the way she came back to life but now that we have her I don't want to let her go. As the Darkchylde she wields incredible magic power but on her road to redemption she has been promoted to the X-men's extinction team alongside her magic-enhanced brother.

  • I miss the old Jubilee but the new one is tough stuff. When she was depowered I feared she would loose her sparkling personality but out of the darkness a new dynamic and exciting woman was born. I hope we see more of her old self shine through as she adapts to her new vampiric life.

  • Another original, who is finally coming out of the shadows of the men in her life. Lorna has struggled with so much doubt and uncertainty I believe she has great inner strength waiting to be untapped.

  • I miss the Ms. Marvel empowered Rogue. I would have placed her higher if she still had that same fire that I loved in her early days but since she lost her original power-set and began honing her powers she seems different. I do have renewed hope for her as a teacher and feel that she'll get borrow a new power-set to make her special again.

  • I love a strong beauty. And Monet takes the cake and the icing on top. She is such a mutant powerhouse. I love her pride and self assurance. I just wish she was given more appreciation because to me she has so much potential in the Marvel Universe. Look out Ms. Marvel. You have competition.

  • Through all the trials and tragedies in her life Theresa has never came off as a victim and continues to rise above it all. She also lives up to the name she inherited from her father. And is the voice of reason on X-Factor.

  • I have a good feeling that karma will finally shine upon Xian. Her psychic powers seem to be developing and growing and in Astonishing X-men Karma has found a chance to broaden her horizons.

  • Next to Storm, I feel Magma has so much untapped natural power. Magma needs more opportunities to let loose and show the world what she can do. Just like Iceman is developing his potential I want Magma to see the same kind of treatment.

  • She is just so cool. I appreciate her lone wolf attitude and should be made use of more. She's the X-men's lady luck.

  • The X-men have a celebrity and they never utilize her fame and glamour enough. But as Cyclops' secret weapon of public relations hopefully she can instill some lesson's in her new recruits, the young X-men. Hopefully we'll see her more often.

  • A young X-men that has really made a name for herself and follows in a long line of capable X-girls who have been promoted to the main team. As Wolverine's new apprentice she is in very good hands and maybe one day she will live up to her AU potential as a leader of the X-men.

  • She had quite the maternity leave but is ready to return to business. As X-Factor's resident werewolf I hope she is given the chance to reconnect with her old New Mutant friends.

  • From an Indian police officer, to mutant hunting cyborg, to heroic X-men sentinel. Karima has been through a lot of phases. Even though she maybe comatose at the moment, I have no doubt she will reawaken once more.

  • Like mother, like daughter. Rachel has always come off unoriginal but over the past few years she has really set herself apart from her AU mother. And as the top psychic on Wolverine's team she is redefining herself as a teacher at the school named after her mother. I see new growth for the new Marvel Girl.

  • When she returns from limbo I expect great things from this X-woman. She was recruited by Professor X early one but instead of joining the original X-men she infiltrated the Hellfire Club. Her mind has so much potential and who needs Cerebra when you have Tessa.

  • A young X-men who has strong sense of self and morality. I want to see her explored more and developed as more than just an ethnic character.

  • Well she isn't my favourite but i respect her strength and skills. Too bad she is Wolverine clone. But I guess that's her claim to fame.

  • Another young X-men who has overcome lot and has honed her powers but just needs to be made good use of.

  • A young X-men that has a lot of experience leading but has been kept in the background for a while. Maybe Generation Hope can make use of her talents and powers.
