I recently reviews Understanding Comics, and that is now a must for me.

the other depends what kid of book you want.  Historic, slice of life, a "must"?

@Silkcuts:  Mmm I need a slice of life and a must. Whatever is the most artistic of them the better. Storytelling is important to my reading experience.

The must I'll say Maus or Understanding comics.
The Slice of life Local.  12 chapters representing 12 years a a young girls life.  Each year she lives in a different place.  Its well researched and a solid read.  I reviewed all three. actually.   So feel free to check out the reviews.

"Indy" implies a sort of under the radarness...Maus is on some schools reading lists. I wonder if it still can be considered Indy=P

@thechessclub: Indy also means "independent". Maus never had the backing of the big 2.

This list might help out the potential candidates in Feather's current round robin.  :-)
