Vertigo hasn't done anything important with Swamp Thing for years and nothing has been important since the eighties so cool bring back the Vertigo characters to the main DCU. But it is Bleeding Cool it's not really 100% accurate.

I worry with this, since Peter Milligan is blowing up huge and has his fingers in a lot of books, it makes sense business-wise to tie Hellblazer back to the DCU.  Story-wise it is a horrible idea and that is why I hate Didiot.

Okay, Black Lantern Swampy is kind of nutty.
^_^
I hope they do a split of the two, Alec a white Lantern and the actual husk of Swamp Thing the Black Lantern, then the join forces and become the Grey Lantern... okay the Grey Lantern is getting out of hand...lol

Yep. He's a good writer, but he needs boundaries. Since those boundaries were lifted, he went from TT and the Flash to the awful Rebirth books and Secret Origins. We've been given senseless Geoffcons and the damn SIlver Age appearing in every bloody book.

I think it's more ego than greed. Johns just wants things the way they were when he was a kid, so he can write about those characters. He's changing everything so that it'll be the way he wants it, and then he can build from there. He takes away his favourite character's faults and questionable acts.  It's fan-fiction. That's seriously all it is.

Thank goodness he's stayed away from the Bat books though. I really don't want to read an entire run about how Bruce isn't that great and that Hal is a better hero (facepalm).

Every time I read a book by Johns, it makes me that much happier to know Morrison is still active.

I still reckon one of the worst moments was when Geoff had Barry say that everything Hal had ever done that was morally questionable was Ollie's influence. That was so bad.

I am glad Morrison didn't take the Alan Moore route to avoid the mainstream.  G-Mo reminds me what comics are capable of, even with the crap other writers release....lol

Morrison is just so awesome lol. I'd honestly rank him amongst the greatest writers of all time, comic or no. His imagination is second-to-none.

@FadeToBlackBolt:  Morrison is brilliant,  you won't hear arguments form me.  Only Alan Moore do  I think is better then Morrison.  Morrison's novels are way too expensive on the secondary markets :(

Swamp Thing appearing in BD #23 was completely random. We see this giant Black Lantern version of him and then see his corpse crawling out from under the tree in the Star City forest.

I lost all expectations from Brightest Day near the start, but this is just silly. So much of this arc is filled with random character derailment, pointless plot holes, and unneeded appearances. What especially makes no sense to me right now is why Swamp Thing is introduced just one issue before the finale.

I can only imagine how unresolved and confusing the ending will be in issue 24.

I'm loving the Aquaman/Mera arc, the Martian Manhunter arc and the Hawk arc (I know there are serious spoilers involving them, I DO NOT know what they are and would prefer it to stay that way).

The Aquaman arc is the only I actually enjoyed when it was concluded. Originally, I started reading Brightest Day mainly for Firestorm and Martian Manhunter, because I am fans of them, but their arcs went downhill. I also liked the Deadman story for a while until that fell offtrack. Overall, the Aquaman story line was the one I preferred most. Hawkman and Hawkgirl, I could care less about. The same for Hawk and Dove.

That and the Hawk arc are probably my two favorites. I'm not an enormous Hawk and Dove fan, although they've been growing on me in Birds of Prey and I couldn't really care less about Firestorm. I dunno, I guess I tend to gravitate towards the warrior mentality characters.

Eh Geoff is kinda clever, just found out that there was this parliament of trees thingy in the Star city forest right from the start which is very important to the Swamp thing mythos, and while brightest day fans can cry over this stupid, uninteresting ending i can savour the epic doomsday/cyborg superman fight in the superman/batman annual.

I have basically no prior understanding (other than Cry for Justice and Blackest Night) of an already very confusing (at least to me) character, which hinders my appreciation/enjoyment of his arc. Normally I'm all for the strange and precarious.

I like Firestorm as a character and do understand where his plot points are coming from, but really, his individual story line in Brightest Day makes no sense.

Story telling. I do understand the characterization and why the different characters are relevant and used the way they are. Just the plot that makes no sense.

" Eh Geoff is kinda clever, just found out that there was this parliament of trees thingy in the Star city forest right from the start which is very important to the Swamp thing mythos, and while brightest day fans can cry over this stupid, uninteresting ending i can savour the epic doomsday/cyborg superman fight in the superman/batman annual. "
That came out? And it wasn't disappointing? Awesome. "

his individual story line in Brightest Day makes no sense. "
Character-wise or just from a general point of story-telling? "
Story telling. I do understand the characterization and why the different characters are relevant and used the way they are. Just the plot that makes no sense. "
Doesn't that seem to be a running theme with DC events lately? "
Under Johns? Pretty much.

I'd add Morrison into that equation. He's a fantastic writer, but if you haven't read the every single tie in and every issue he's written in the last however long, you'll have absolutely no idea what the hell is going on.

That is just Morrison's writing style though. He has a huge build-up, multiple hints spread systematically throughout, and then his ending. I would not in any way identify him with Johns, who has been the major writer for most of DC's recent and primary events.

It's his style and I love it, it just makes for confusing stories at times. I still don't entirely understand Final Crisis and I've read the deluxe trade, which compiles just about every tie-in.

I'm actually kind of a fan of Johns, which is attributed to the fact that I haven't been reading DC a very long time and I don't know a whole lot of the back story or continuity.

Final Crisis was not altogether Morrison's fault though. He had an original concept that he planned to integrate into it, but his notes had to be revised once some other writers changed what would have been the precursor to his initial design.

Johns can be appreciated if you are unable to recognize the alterations he makes to characters and continuity.

Fair enough.

Exactly. His GL volume is the first Lantern stuff I've ever read. I have no previous knowledge other than the Justice League cartoon.
