" Interesting post. I happen to live in the Midwest, where driving is essential. We haven't caught on to the whole idea of public transport. In fairness, miles of farm land and rows of corn don't lend themselves easily to mass transit.  
 
I think the authors you mentioned were/are still very much selfish, as we all are - their work (word or art) just happens to be their preferred extention of themselves, instead of...let's say, a vehicle or other material goods. I might be inclined to argue that artists and writers may be more self-centered - as they believe their stories to be worthy of others taking note.   Nice post. Thanks for making me think!  "

I've noticed a great method for thinking up ideas is the shower. I think it has to do with all the hot water, helps you relax and make you think more clearly.

Possibly. I've heard something of the sort but pertaining not just to creators but to brilliant people in general who either can't drive or prefer not to. I'm by no right Allan Moore or brilliant, but I don't drive myself. I'm pretty sure I don't have the motor skill to.
