Driving and Creation, is there a relationship?

Driving and Creation, is there a relationship? I have wondered this for a while.  It could be just cultural things preventing desire to drive, such as the Cab culture in England and the Subway system in New York are two examples of how driving is not needed to survive.  Alan Moore and Spike Lee are two examples where I can think of where they are acclaimed creators and have no passion to drive a car.  Without a need to drive, those two creators spend more time creating then allowing a car to be an extension of themselves.  Others to the list Jack Kirby and Ray Bradbury.

This concept of having a car being an extension was made clear to me while reading Scott McCloud's Understanding Comics: The Invisible Art.  He brought up the concept that us people are self-centered people.  So we create life to objects and personify them.  It is natural.  Then there are things like crutches we uses as extensions of legs.  People use objects of extensions of themselves, it is natural, a car is no different.

Could this self centered nature be what holds most people back from being great creators?  With guys like Alan Moore and Spike Lee not projecting themselves in objects like cars, could their minds be wired differently?  If so, how? Could it be that their views are not self-centered and this is why they have a different view of the world?

Can anyone confirm if Tim Burton can drive?  Grant Morrison Salvador Dali? H.R. Giger?  Just food for thought.

Cheers

I can't name a woman that fits the driving, not driving thing.

@Silkcuts: I don't drive and I am not very creative. but we all have our "extensions" as it were.  a way to connect to these strange creatures called 'humans'.  our own unique 'finger prints' that make us who and what we are. Hemingway used to write standing up. Tim Burton wears black and white stripped socks. every artist has a muse, a brush, an easel, and a subject no matter their art whether it's ink or life. it's our connection to this earth and each other.... kind of went off there. not sure if I conveyed my thoughts in a coherent way. probably not but best I have right now.

@Mr.Q:  You agree with Farmboy?  Far.  I understand where you guys are coming from.  It is neat thinking that creativity is just how we approach our greedy self-centered ways.  Take me for example, most of my contributions to the vine are my likes and my likes tend to be so different from the mainstream, this is why it is more noticeable my contributions.   I don't think I am smarter then any other review.  I think I am more passionate may be.  But this passion translate in my work because of my self centered view to get people to see why I like what I like.

I can drive, I just don't like it.  I guess the was why I found an interesting correlation with creativity and driving.  I love my father I do, but I never viewed him as very creative, but he is also the only pilot in my family.  So this extreme is not to the other side, my father is so attached to planes that they are his extension.  May be flying to him is like drawing to Alan Moore.  It is that outlet where they extend themselves into.  So I really can see what Farmboy said.

" Interesting post. I happen to live in the Midwest, where driving is essential. We haven't caught on to the whole idea of public transport. In fairness, miles of farm land and rows of corn don't lend themselves easily to mass transit.

I think the authors you mentioned were/are still very much selfish, as we all are - their work (word or art) just happens to be their preferred extention of themselves, instead of...let's say, a vehicle or other material goods. I might be inclined to argue that artists and writers may be more self-centered - as they believe their stories to be worthy of others taking note.   Nice post. Thanks for making me think!  "
I'm in agreement with this. when you approach anything on a psychological level you can walk away with any number of conclusions so always keep in mind what Freud was credited with saying - "sometimes a cigar is just a cigar." because they made creative people before they made cars. as for Burton. his wife thinks he shows signs of autism. as did Einstein. make of that what you will.

I've noticed a great method for thinking up ideas is the shower. I think it has to do with all the hot water, helps you relax and make you think more clearly.
That and like Norman Osborn says

Possibly. I've heard something of the sort but pertaining not just to creators but to brilliant people in general who either can't drive or prefer not to. I'm by no right Allan Moore or brilliant, but I don't drive myself. I'm pretty sure I don't have the motor skill to.
