Continuing my Anti-Hero lists, we now come to the Type IV Anti-Heroes. These are the darkest and most brutal a character can be while still having fundamentally good intentions and still (maybe) qualifying as heroic. It is very, very easy for these kind of characters to double as Type V Anti-Heroes and even Type III Anti-Villains.
Beginning the Marvel examples with it's resident femme fatale Black Widow.
Vampire Hunter and the Frank Castle of the monster world.
Sometimes. He's usually shown to be pretty brutal and not at all averse to using lethal force, not to mention being pretty cynical concerning Xavier's dream.
There being this has sometimes put them into conflict with Spider-Man.

Even when a hero she's still fine with killing the bad guys.
Cold, cynical, rude, and not above ruthlessness. She even once pursued a temporary alliance with NORMAN OSBORN, albeit in the pursuit of a greater good.

Sometimes, when made ruthless enough. Like Emma Frost she tends not to have the same inhibitions concerning her telepathy that say, Jean Grey and Professor X tend to have.

Sometimes. It depends on how ruthless they're being.
A mercenary who's cool with killing the bad guys but also one who is fairly prone to acts of heroism.
He's got a lot of blood on his hands, and even though the X-Men have tried to reign him in, inevitably some villains still end up dead.

When we first meet her. She gets better.
Her Justicar code can see her being quite brutal.
In-between Types III and IV by virtue of being a heroic assassin.
These guys whole MO is to kill evil people. It is only their refusal to hurt innocents, their genuinely good intentions, and the fact that most of their victims are kind of evil that they manage to be even this Type and not Type V (which they sometimes enter anyway).
Crusades-Era Assassin. He does question the Assassins way of doing things but sticks with it anyway.
Renaissance-Era Assassin. He's a nice enough guy, but also a trained, hardened killer.
Early 1900s-Era Assassin who operated in Russia in the last days of the Czars. A very ruthless individual who frankly should probably be a Type V.
After coming to accept the Assassins ideology in full.
Beginning the misc. examples with the Disney version of Clopin, who was quite agreeable to hanging two innocent men just for suspecting that they were spies of Frollo.
