FACTS 2010

FACTS or better yet: F.A.C.T.S. (Fantasy Anime Comics Toys Science-fiction) is a yearly convection held in Flanders Expo Ghent, Belgium. They are - as mentioned on their site - the biggest Comics, Sci-Fi and Anime festival in the Benelux, and naturally I had to attend.

Merc with a Mouth is no more.

Merc with a Mouth is no more.

Yes. A few days after Merc with a Mouth hit the stores in the US, I finally got to buy it yesterday here in Belgium. ( usually comics arrive on Wednesday, meaning they're in my comic book store by Thursday. However since Wednesday was a National holiday, I had to wait a day more! Nooooooo...! )

Anyway, I bought it yesterday, but haven't gotten the time to read it until now.

So how was it you ask?

Well.. I've got some mixed feelings about this finale to Merc with a Mouth. I actually liked the series, a lot. The only issue I hated was issue 7. And that was mainly because of the jumps in the art and how much I dislike Kyle Baker's art ( no offense, just not my style ).
So there's the problem: This final issue isn't drawn solely by Dazo, but features three different artists; Dazo ( the series usual writer ), Baker ( god I hate his art ) and Scalera. So again; jumps in interior artwork; no good. The changes in artwork coincide with the different "chapters" in the book, though they aren't really chapters, they're basically just switches in the artwork that have their own titles. Which honestly kind of breaks the story. Luckily, most of the book is done by Dazo, whose art I love. Baker's art this time around is much more drawn than the Deadpool 900, Merc with a Mouth 7 and Prelude to Deadpool Corps 5 's computerized artwork. Which is only a small patch on a still very ugly scar if you'd ask me. Scalera's art kind of resembles and fits with Dazo's art, so I didn't really have a problem with that, though of course Dazo draws a lot more detail etc. But it was okay.
As for the story itself: loved it. The typical Deadpool solution towards the end of the issue is just priceless and the way everything about the start of the series, the time-travelling, the start of Deadpool Corps and of course the end of our Merc's journey in the Zombieverse all comes perfectly together is just priceless.

So in short?

The good:
- The story
- The conclusion
- Deadpool's plan: genius
- Dazo's art
- Nice cover
The bad:
- Changes in the interior art kind of break apart the general story
- Kyle Baker's art
