@novi_homines: So basically you were expecting to see TDK again? Well that wasn't going to happen. But there will be more development in the sequel.

No not really. I was just expecting a fantastic cbm. And at least best cbm origin. It was good, but definitely not fantastic. IM1, Avengers, Batman Begins, TDK, Thor, X2, Cap: TFA, all still rank higher for me.

I see. Maybe your expectations were a bit high. Don't worry the sequel will be better. Out of those you mentioned I only count Avengers, IM and TDK above MOS. Every other movies is lower in my ranking.

Cool. Everyone has their own opinions on the film. That's what makes us human. =)

It was successful. And I honestly can't wait for part 2. I really just think that they should jump right into JL now, instead of waiting after Man of Steel 2. Maybe i'm just anxious, but it would be good to have this trilogy at the center of the DC CU. And following allong with the JL trilogy, ex: Mos, then JL. Mos2, JL2. MoS3, JL3.

I just hope that it just isn't Lex in the movie. As for JL, I don't know...This movie has to be successful for that. I'm seeing it again tonight.

It'll DEFINITELY be successful enough financially to produce a JL. I'm not in the least bit worried about that. Superman fan's will watch this movie 2-3 times. Heck i'm watching it again for the movie, and to give it more money. I'm sure alot of dc fans and comic book fans in general will do this.

I think DC needs to expand their film universe a bit more before we jump right into a JL movie. A new Green Lantern or a Wonder Woman movie would be nice. But I think we are another 5 years from JL. If MoS is a solid hit (I think it will be) we can expect more projects to be green lit in a few months I think. So who knows.

Moved my previous comment as I think its more appropriate elsewhere.

I can't say I agree with point 4. I think WW, GL, MM can easily hold there own given the power level Supes shows in MoS. I mean MoS is the first movie where we see what Superman can REALLY do physically.

Oh no, I'm not saying they can't make these people as good as Superman, I'm saying it's unnecessary. He's leveling Skyscrapers with ease. It's going to be really hard to convince an audience that a Darkseid or a Doomsday are just way too much for him. The point of the team will be hard to sell.

Like Decoy Elite said, I think its doable with say Darkseid. Doomsday not so much as it would feel like a rehash of this film. All fighty-fight. Darkseid or Braniac who are less fanatical and more methodical could provide a more existential threat. But I do agree that the scale for MoS was so big, it will be tough to top without it feeling like more of the same.

@jeanespinosa21

My only issue with the scene where Supes was holding Zod back from blasting that family with heat vision was that Zod could easily have moved his eyes without moving his head at all and totally cooked them.

@supreme_marvel: But if I recall, the word Daxamite is not explicitly mentioned right? Still that absolutely makes sense. Good catch.

... but the majority of the negative reviews have these predetermined biases of what they think Superman should be...

I would agree with that statement 100% and I think that is why this film is so divisive with critics.

This movie definitely has a 21st Century Supes, very similar to (but not as fleshed out) what we are reading in New 52.

Saw the movie last night. Still very torn about this. Was the movie worth going to see? Absolutely.

Is it my favorite Superman movie? No.

Don't flame me (huge Supes fan here), but I really did not care for the characterization of this Superman. He was too thin and I had no real sense of why he was protecting Earth. I mean yeah it is where he grew up and is his home, but I always feel Supes needs a strong moral grounding. This Supes has, what I felt, were some pretty vague reasons for doing what he was doing.

For me, what really gets me going about Superman, is this tremendous desire he has to serve and protect others. Yes he has strong moral fiber, but he is always concerned with others before himself. Hence why when the action gets too hairy, he has to get away city to protect the innocent people around who will inevitably get caught in the crossfire. You could argue that if he had done that here, Zod would just have leveled the city (granted this is after the gravity well was destroyed: during that Supes was doing his best to take it out to save lives). But Zod was so upset at Kal for basically removing any chance he had to rebuild Krypton, I do not think it would have been too big a logical leap for Supes to lure him away somewhere safe to finish him off.

I guess I never really cared what happened to this Superman and I did not get the goose bumps or feel very triumphant when he saved the day like I did in past movies (yes even in Superman Returns).Superman here is not noble. That is the product of trying to make him more realistic I guess, but Superman is an archetype and if I want reality, then I won’t go see a movie with a guy who flies in it.

Again, don’t flame me. I want to love this movie so bad, but I just can’t. And I am rambling a bit because I am so disappointed still (my hopes for this movie were BIG, probably too big). I am not trying to compare it to Chris Reeve, but it is hard not to when his portrayal in Superman the Movie was so classic and iconic. I will always have those movies, so nothing really changes for me. I appreciate everyone else’s opinions and am glad a lot of you guys love this movie. Here is hoping the movie does great so we can have another go around with the Man of Steel.

Its worth it. I have my issues with it (and will comment elsewhere), but as comic book fan and a huge Superman fan, its worth it.
