Ah, I thought this was going to be an intersting debate about how the American comic market compares to the Japenese comic market. I was wrong.

I've no problem with new guys having good ideas but here's the thing. people who like comics like particular characters in comics. say if you like a hero as a kid you will ALWAYS like that guy just a little. imagine you then continue likeing comics as you grow up and read more comics spending time and money on your personal hero. you are now a fan of said character. like it or not you like him more than other characters. for instance i like wolverine. i like him so much i would say he can kill the hulk by hacking him to pieces. THERE I SAID IT. now while comics have characters that gain strength as more and more people like them and buy their comics and thus let the series continue( examples being iceman who fore some reason IS ice now and can reform after being shattered. another example is iron man who can control all electronics) anime however isn't like this. there may only BE one guy who likes alucard from hellsing but let me tell you if alucard fought wolverine i can guarentee wolverine would get what can only be described as F*CKED UP. anime characters tend to be more powerfull in general as a side note. also japanese art in general goes more in a fantastic direction (not a simile for good) and make things TOO inrealistic. while some of the things in final fantasy are cool and amazing you cant really picture them so well. the reason i bring this up is because people seem to make arguments about the physics of certain universes acting differently than eachother. like a guy falling off a building in dbz might make a huge shockwave and crack the street. so does this mean AWESOME matchups like jin from samuai champloo against someone equally not overpowered like say.... wolverine shouldn't be allowed? well thats funny you should ask hypothetical man in my head i guess that depends on who you think should win. Whats that? you think jin would win? let me give you a calm counter argument about how my childhood hero that killed the monsters in my closet would fare against the guy i just wikied five minutes ago...... As the the markets, each business appeals to a particular culture. Furthermore, Marvel made the mangaverse to appeal to a younger generation of Americans who liked the art style. Why I would like that style in comics, etc, is because someone like Iron Fist will never be portrayed as powerful as someone like the Beyonder in comics, so their story goes nowhere. From characters that weak, only Wolverine and Spider-Man have hope. And Batman. Um, I think you're being hatefully too extreme. You could have ended your argument before the caps.....anyone else want to support or speak their opinion against this matter in an interesting and intelligent way? Because Hulk will always pound Iron Fist. In terms of Wolverine tearing up a universe etc, Juggy used to be superweak. Like 5 tons weak. A snack for Ben Grimm to eat weak. An X-Men character. (Please don't argue with this. X-men characters are weak. Jean was nothing until Phoenix came around). S, ideas? Thoughts? Would those who do not sympathize with manga, which is nothing more than comics from Japan, be more willing to have manga around if say, Disney, which is Marvel now, bought a few manga companies? What if Marvel acquired Shueisha, the maker of Dragon Ball and Naruto? Would you be opposed to Goku showing up in Hulkverse? Should a motion to increase Mickey's powers be set in motion for Disney to buy all big time manga companies? What would make this good? Make a separate Marvel universe where these characters interact? What appeals to you more other than slapping manga in the face so more realistically, Goku kamehamehas Juggy in the face taking him out permanently, so he has to fight Hulk, a real man.

I'm standing with the mods on this.  Those topics just started flame wars and were easy prey for trolls.  While some were enjoyable, it just got out of hand.  Also, you do realize what kind of troll they're speaking of, right? >.> 
 
edit: Also, it's not a racist decision, and manga is not a race, I can assure you the mods most likely did not even consider the fact that manga are Japanese.

All they've ever really done is cause flame wars and other trolling. And it's not that the mods don't like them (Final Arrow is an enormous manga/anime fan and has actually spoken about how he'd love to be able to debate these matches), it just never works out.

Yes but if ypu're going to do lesser known Anime characters, then ur gonna have to do lesser known Comic characters from Image, Vertigo, The Walking Dead, Planetary, Wildstorm, etc.

See, this thread is a little silly because the site is called Comicvine, not Mangavine. I think the moderators need to go a step further and eliminate Video Game vs Comics and Movie vs Comics, I'm sure there are other forums for that kind of nonsense.  Fact is, Comicvine should only debate comics.  Manga are NOT just japanese comics, they are a totally different media of entertainment.  Just because they are on paper doesnt make them the same as a comic book. 

Well I'm glad this forum for the most part is going well. It explained things thoroughly that the guys at CV should have maybe explained to any fans that might have been shocked or felt a bite in the butt.

See, I could understand this. Maybe CV or Britannica or something should come up with a better definition of what comics are, as opposed to manga. In other countries, such as France, there are 'comics', but I don't know if that would fall under the same category. For example, Tintin is a comic in France in a style that is more Archie than Marvel or DC. Is it comic? It's called that.... This is what I find confusing......... Any intelligent explanations/comments? 
 
 
If you don't know Tintin, you can youtube it. This December, a Tintin movie made by Steven Spielberg will be hitting theaters. It's a bit Archie meets Dick Tracey, with some Popeye.

They Comic vs Manga/Anime threads will prolly never come back.They did just recently try to bring it back and ended that in less than a day.The reason for this is the all out flame wars that came from all the Anime Vs Comic threads.Everyone just got into fights and it didnt work.BTW i feel i should say in the most recent case of flame wars the comic fans were just as much to blame (Perhaps more so) as the anime fans

i wouldnt mind if it was brought back, but not permanantly. i suppose picking a few days out of...lets say..a month? and letting debates go on. just keep the ones that are genuinely debating about who will win, as opposed to "NO!! YOUR WRONG, GOKU WILL JUST ONE SHOT SUPERMANZ!!". i believe it could work. 
 
so again, just keep the ones that are troll free, which will be hard, but just flag them. i believe there are good battles between comic/anime universes. personally, id like see sakura go head to head with she-hulk. as soon as the trolling starts, just flag them, there easy to spot.  for as long as i've been here on the vine, there are many good debaters.

@Chaos Prime: yeah, that sounds about right.  DBZ threads usually start the trolling right away. but i honestly feel like everything else could be maintained. just when someone starts there thread, make sure their clear about the rules & the debate. like one word answers, i feel those start trolling as well, if you cant come up with a decent explanation, then dont write anything at all. it'll take some time to get around to, but i do believe it's possible, i feel as though my idea could work.

If you want to debate manga/ anime vs comic books there are plenty of other websites that allow it. This type of thing has been done way too many times.

The ban was uplifted a few months ago, people couldn't handle it. There isn't a reason why they should enabled again when you can just go over to animevice.

like no superman vs anime characters or DBZ vs comic characters. Those are usually the debates that lead to flame wars as far as I have seen.
