Tomorrow Is A Thief Of Pleasure 0

The Story: Catwoman steals a painting that will come back to haunt her. My Thoughts:I'm sure by now everyone has heard how controversial the first issue of Catwoman was. Many showed a strong dislike towards it while others accepted it. I was one of the latter and was anxious to read this second issue. Everything I had hoped for happened in this issue. The sexuality was almost nonexistent and a story began to unfold. And what a great story it's shaping up to be.  As expected the issue begins with...

Answers In The Heart 0

The Story: Nightwing fights Saiko and later talks with Mr. Haly who is dying of a tumor. My Thoughts:Kyle Higgins picks up right where he left off in the first issue. The fight between Nightwing and Saiko ends fairly quick as Nightwing is forced to help civilians in distress allowing Saiko to escape. This is when things start to get interesting. I believe I said it in my last review but bringing Haly's Circus into the mix was a nice way to kick off this series. We get more of the circus in this ...

Can't We All Just Get Along? 0

The Story: The fight between Superman, Batman and Green Lantern continues resulting in Green Lantern calling Flash to come help him. Afterwards, the four begin to deduce what the mysterious box is when a swarm of parademons boom through it. My Thoughts:The long awaited second issue finally arrives. For some reason this series was delayed. Hopefully we won't have that issue occurring again. I sort of felt like there was a little bit of false advertisement concerning this issue. They claimed it wa...

Court Of Owls Are Coming 0

The Story: Batman and James Gordon continue to investigate the murder of a man who had Dick Grayson's DNA underneath his fingernails. Batman is warned about the Court Of Owls. My Thoughts:This was easily my most anticipated issue coming out this week. After the phenomenal first issue by Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo, this instantly became one of my favorites out of the new 52. We're only two issue in and it already appears that Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo will pull off an incredible groundbrea...

The World Of Orchid 2

The Story: The world of Orchid is ruled by the rich and powerful who enslave the poor. My Thoughts:Orchid is the new series from Dark Horse written by Tom Morello and drawn by Scott Hepburn. This new world they've created is what caught my attention and ultimately made me decide to pick it up. I thought the premise was interesting and showed potential. The issue begins by giving readers some quick background on the world and how things got to where they are currently. It's a violent world as pro...

Daemonites Are Everywhere 0

The Story: The government is after Cole Cash as he tries to convince his girlfriend not to leave him.  My Thoughts:After two issues of this series I'm still not quite sure what to make of it. I'm new to Grifter and I still feel as if I don't really know who he is or what makes him so special. He continues to hear these voices but not a lot of detail concerning them is explained. He's running from the law but keeps ending up in confrontations. I'm still trying to figure out where exactly this ser...

An Unfortunate Disappointment 0

The Story: Mister Terrific has to figure out a way to break Brainstorms control over everyone in Los Angeles.  My Thoughts:Going into this second issue of the series, I can't say I was expecting much. The first issue didn't impress me at all and the only reason I decided to give this series another shot was that I liked Mister Terrific so much and was really hoping for this to turn into a great series. After finishing this issue I'm displeased yet again. Writer Eric Wallace desperately tries to ...

October Brings Melancholy 0

The Story: Someone wants Shade dead and sends Deathstroke after him. My Thoughts:I'm new to the character of Shade. I've heard great things about him and decided to give this series a shot. So going into this issue I knew nothing about him. After finishing this first issue, I'd have to say James Robinson didn't do the greatest job introducing Shade to newer readers. Robinson is one of my favorite writers so I'm sure in time he'll deliver everything I'm looking for but the New 52 is suppose to be...

Cold Cold World For A Penguin 0

The Story: Moments of Penguin's childhood are revealed. Penguin has his men steal the Dragon Egg Ruby for his mother.  My Thoughts:Gregg Hurwitz managed to do something similar that Geoff Johns recently did with Aquaman, he made a character who is often criticized look awesome. Hurwitz showed readers Penguin is a serious villain and kingpin of crime. He made him feared by all and did quite a good job in doing that.  I actually liked seeing flashbacks of Penguin's childhood. We learn about not on...

The Maleficent Seven 1

The Story: The Questing Queen and Mordru send the dragons to attack the Demon Knights.  My Thoughts:This series surprised me with the first issue so much that I instantly fell in love with the story, setting and characters involved. It's quickly become one of my favorites out of the new 52. I'm really digging the medieval setting and the the dialogue from all characters of the story. The way their talking is not only appropriate for the time period, but some of it also comes off a little humorou...

Medieval Magic 0

The Story: Set in medieval times, a group of seven heroes must come together to stop a barbarian horde.  My Thoughts:I don't know why I didn't look into this series last month when it debuted. This series is awesome. With medieval times, magic and dark sorcery how could it not be awesome? While I haven't heard of some of these characters, Paul Cornell does a great job introducing newer readers to them in such a phenomenal and accessible way. Each character is intriguing and has their own voice a...

Pure Action 0

The Story: Deathstroke seeks the name of the client responsible for the airplane job. When he's unable to get what he wants, he puts his sword to great use. My Thoughts:Writer Kyle Higgins managed to impress me enough on the first issue for me to continue reading this series. I was hoping for something a little more than what we were given within these pages. The issue is certainly action-packed which we were all expecting since it's a Deathstroke series but I was hoping for a little more story ...

Sinestro's Lapdog 0

The Story: Sinestro makes Hal Jordan a green power ring but there's a catch to his offer. My Thoughts:Geoff Johns embarks on a new direction for the Green Lanterns particularly focusing on Hal Jordan and Sinestro. Now that Sinestro is once again a Green Lantern and Hal Jordan is no longer one, you can be sure things are going to get extremely interesting. What made this issue so entertaining is the way Sinestro toyed with Hal Jordan. While he forged Hal a ring and sort of reinstated him as a Gre...

Drowned In Drama 1

The Story: Cameron Chase seeks to unmask the identity of Batwoman. Kate Kane goes on a date with Detective Sawyer.  My Thoughts:This second issue of the Batwoman series lacks the excitement and suspense the first issue delivered. It's still a good read but I felt like it could have been better. I can't help but think if Greg Rucka was still writing Batwoman this issue would have been a little more thrilling. Almost everything that happened is still very important to the overall story, it's just ...

The Killer Within 0

The Story: Bruce Wayne feels it's his responsibility to "fix" Damian Wayne who has a tendency to kill and use excessive force in battle. Nobody reveals himself to Bruce Wayne.  My Thoughts:So far I've enjoyed what Peter J. Tomasi has done within these first two issues. He clearly displays what the premise of this first story arc will be about while also focusing on the relationship between Batman and Robin. While Batman and Robin have always been known as the Dynamic Duo, the current Batman and ...

End To All Miracles 0

The Story: Batgirl does everything she can to stop the Mirror and find out who he really is. My Thoughts:Gail Simone really turns up the heat in this second issue giving readers a lot to think about. We learn more about this new villain Mirror and we can begin to deduce more about him from the new information given to us. Personally I like him. I think he'll make a pretty cool villain and I hope he'll be around for a while. This issue sort of serves as an origin for him as we learn what happened...

Vengeance Is Served 0

This is the second trade in the Jonah Hex series that collects another six western tales depicting Jonah Hex exactly as he should be. Jimmy Palmiotti and Justin Gray continue to impress me with their work on this character. While overall I found this trade slightly less enjoyable then the first, it's still a great read.  I think one of the reasons I liked the first trade more was the consistency in art. Luke Ross handled the art on five out of the first six issues. In this trade each issue has a...

Most Violent Face In The West 0

This first trade in the Jonah Hex series is comprised of six issues each telling their own story. That's both a positive and a negative depending on the type of reader you are. On the positive side, you can easily jump in at any point and not be lost. On the negative side, each story only lasts an issue long. Some people (such as myself) love a story that builds up over time. Regardless these are some fine old western stories that are highly entertaining.  The creative team of Jimmy Palmiotti an...

The Domino Effect 0

The Story: Batman attempts to revive what he thought was Bruce Wayne's body using a Lazarus Pit in London. Batman and Robin begins investigating the death of Bruce Wayne as they start to believe he's not really dead and look for clues to support their theory. My Thoughts:Grant Morrison has done it again! He's managed to unravel a thrilling mystery tale involving the death of Bruce Wayne. At first everyone thought Bruce Wayne to be dead except for Tim Drake. Now Dick Grayson is starting to believ...

Dynamic All Around 0

The Story: Batman and Robin investigate the abduction of a missing child by the mysterious Domino Killer, deal with the Circus of Strange and face former ally Jason Todd who plans on killing crime in Gotham…literally. My Thoughts:Grant Morrison knows how to deliver a knockout story. Ever since writing Batman he's been doing amazing things with his character. Now after Bruce Wayne's "death" we see Morrison switch his focus on the new Batman (Dick Grayson) and the new Robin (Damian Wayne). Morriso...

Eye Of The Storm 0

The Story: Stormwatch battle the moon and attempt to recruit Midnighter. My Thoughts:I thought the first issue if Stormwatch showed potential. It was definitely a unique series which I planned on giving a shot. Paul Cornell managed to spark my interest enough to make me want to continue. In this second issue he tries desperately to make these events seem more epic then they are. After finishing the issue, I felt as if not a whole lot had happened. I didn't really care or get excited about anythi...

Still Nothing Special 0

The Story:Rush calls out Green Arrow via the internet when he and his group kill a young kid who tried joining their group. My Thoughts:I wasn't thrilled with the first issue of this series so I was going into this second issue with low expectations. Once again I wasn't pleased with the outcome. This series so far has been average at best. J.T. Krul is simply doing nothing to impress me in any way.One thing I didn't like that I found unrealistic was how Green Arrow shot an arrow down from the Spa...

No Sleep For The Wicked 0

The Story: Amadeus Arkham enlists the help of Jonah Hex to help track down the Gotham Butcher.  My Thoughts:The creative team of Justin Gray and Jimmy Palmiotti who previously worked together on the Jonah Hex series reunite for this new All Star Western series which stars Jonah Hex. One of the key factors that made me want to pick this up aside from the creative team and Jonah Hex was that it was taking place in Gotham City. After reading this first issue, I think it's safe to say Gotham City is...

It's Never Simple With The Huntress 0

The Story: Huntress receives a tip of a container shipment leaving Naples heading for Gotham. My Thoughts:Who else would DC get to write a six issue Huntress mini-series than Paul Levitz? The man knows how to writer Huntress. Not only that, he incorporates a serious topic into the story which results in a grand slam first issue. The Huntress seemingly finds herself at a crossroad with a crossbow.  While receiving a tip of a contraband shipment departing Naples for Gotham, she decides to investig...

See What The Dollmaker Can Do 0

The Story: Bruce Wayne becomes involved with journalist Charlotte Rivers who is covering the gruesome murders in Gotham. Batman comes face to face with the Dollmaker for the first time.  My Thoughts:This is one of two issues I was most excited for this week. A lot of people don't seem to interested in this series because Tony Daniel is writing it. So he's no Grant Morrison or Scott Snyder, the man is still doing a fine job if you ask me. I'm loving this series. I like the approach he's taking an...

Prison Break 1

The Story: Superman escapes from military custody. My Thoughts:This second issue of the series offers readers something we've never really seen before while reading a Superman comic. Grant Morrison continues to surprise and keep readers on the edge of their seats with his interpretation of the early years of Superman's crime fighting career. We once again see a vulnerable Superman who is able to be physically hurt in other ways than kryptonite or magic. I like this approach a lot. Personally I f...

Life Isn't Always Fair 1

The Story: Supergirl promises a young boy she'll find a way to cure his cancer but learns the world isn't always fair. My Thoughts:Writers Kelly Puckett, Will Pfeifer and James Peaty team up for this Supergirl story where Supergirl learns the way of the world. She learns there's limits to her capabilities the hard way as she promises a young boy she'll cure his cancer. She did get a little innovative in her ways she attempted to pull off that miracle such as enlisting the help of Resurrection Ma...

Long Live The Legion! 0

The Story: Superman receives a distress call from Brainiac 5. He travels to the future to aid his friends The Legion Of Super-Heroes.  My Thoughts:This story arc is from the pages of Action Comics which reunites the same creative team behind Superman: Secret Origin once again; Geoff Johns and Gary Frank. These two work so well together it's a shame they don't team up more often.  I loved the concept of the story Geoff Johns put together. More importantly, he made the Legion Of Super-Heroes fun. ...

Me Am Think This Good Comic 0

The Story: Bizarro kidnaps Jonathan Kent and takes him to Bizarro World.  My Thoughts:This short three issue story arc from the Action Comics series is written by Geoff Johns and Richard Donner. I went into this comic with low expectations for the simple fact that it involved Bizarro, a villain I can't stand. I hate reading the dialogue whenever he's involved. It's just so incredibly annoying. So it's no surprise I didn't enjoy this even with the talented writing team on the project.  It's a ver...

The Search Is On 0

The Story: Superman enlists Batman's help in searching the planet for all the remaining kryptonite and destroying it. My Thoughts:This story arc is written by by America television and film writer Michael Green. I loved his story arc Lovers And Madmen he did on the Batman Confidential series. He's a very talented writer with a knack for creating interesting and unique stories. The premise of this story may sound boring to some but Michael Green found a way to make it fun and exciting. The trade ...

Path Of Torment 0

The Story: Superman's mind becomes infected and he begins to lsoe control. Scarecrow takes him to Apokolips forcing Batman to follow. My Thoughts:This story arc of the series is written by Alan Burnett and drawn by Dustin Nguyen. Alan Burnett is primarily a television writer so I was excited to know he would be behind this story arc. I had faith he could deliver a well written story involving my two favorite characters. He doesn't disappoint at all. He caught my attention from the opening pages....

Nice Concept, But Not Brilliant Yet 0

The Story: A group of kids figure out how to invent superpowers.  My Thoughts:This is a creator owned series by Brian Michael Bendis and Mark Bagley who worked together on Ultimate Spider-Man. When I first heard about this series I knew I was going to pick it up. With those two guys names on it and the awesome looking cover for the first issue, I was sold.  Bendis begins by introducing us to the series main protagonist (Amadeus). We see him enter the bank and tell the woman behind the glass to g...

The Smell Of Sanity 1

The Story: Madame Xanadu looks into the future and sees great wickedness. The Enchantress has gone mad and not even the Justice League can stop her.  My Thoughts:This series has received a lot of attention and whole lot of anticipation towards its release. It combines a lot of the "magical" characters from DC/Vertigo who will eventually form Justice League Dark. I have to say it's an interesting move. I think a lot of people will love it but at the same time there's going to be a lot of people w...

The All New Hawkman 0

The Story: Carter Hall tries to rid himself of his Hawkman attire but the Nth Metal does something strange to him. My Thoughts:Hawkman is another character who has received his fare share of criticism. Jokes have been made at his expense countless times. A lot of people never understood his character (I don't think I fully did either). An update for Hawkman was definitely long overdue and very much needed to reestablish his credibility. I think after this issue, there will be a lot less jokes ma...

This Was Just Horrible 1

This isn't a series I was anxious to read. I really only picked it up because I thought Ethan Van Sciver was going to be the series artist but instead he's credited as "co-plotter" with Gail Simone. Firestorm seems like he could be a pretty cool character, I've just never been able to read much about him. Unfortunately this first issue did nothing to make me care about him at all.  This is simply not a good issue. It's proof that Gail Simone is overrated. I'm not saying she can't come up with an...

Glad I Picked This Up 0

The Story: Metahuman teenagers are appearing all around the world and are being criticized by the media for their actions. Tim Drake begins scouting them as he plans on putting a team together.  My Thoughts:I'm very new to writer Scott Lobdell only having read his work on Superboy #1 which I wasn't a fan of at all. What attracted me to this series was artist Brett Booth and the fact that Tim Drake and Wonder Girl were on the team. I was sort of skeptical about it and almost didn't pick it up. Af...

Parent Of Your Own Fear 0

The Story: Bruce Wayne gives a speech at an event where afterwards, he is questioned by Lieutenant Forbes. A breakout occurs at Arkham Asylum where Batman runs into the White Rabbit for the first time.  My Thoughts:This is the fourth Batman series out of the new 52 written by Paul Jenkins and drawn by David Finch. This series probably won't get as much attention as the other Batman titles and may go unnoticed by a lot. The series shows potential and may fly under the radar. Only time will tell. ...

Change Is Seldom Easy 0

The Story: The Daily Planet gets demolished as the new one is presented to Metropolis. An alien threat arrives in Metropolis threatening civilians.  My Thoughts:Superman was one of many characters who had significant changes made in this new relaunch. Not only are his red trunks gone, so is his relationship with Lois Lane. The former being long overdue, the latter something of a disappointment to many. While Action Comics focuses on a young Superman before donning the costume, this series is set...

Always Running From Something 0

The Story: Barry Allen takes Patty on a date when it's suddenly interrupted by a group of armed men who seek an important object forcing the Flash to intervene.  My Thoughts:I was pretty excited for this series all month long. Having to wait until the last week for it was sort of torture. I had been eagerly anticipating its release due to the fact that Francis Manapul was on it. I'm not familiar with Brian Buccellato at all so I have no frame of reference concerning him. After finishing the firs...

Aquaman Rebirth 2

The Story: Aquaman stops a group of men running from the law. Later he decides not to go back to Atlantis.  My Thoughts:This is one of the new 52 series I had been looking most forward too. I like Aquaman and I've been dying to read a great Aquaman series. When I heard Geoff Johns and Ivan Reis were going to be the creative team for the series I was ecstatic. I had high hopes they would deliver the type of Aquaman comic I've been wishing to read and they didn't disappoint.  As everyone knows, Aq...
