@veshark: I think when it involves teenagers (like Superbad, Sex Drive, American Pie) it makes more sense, especially with the people who would be considered nerds/outcasts. It's a huge stereotype that all teenage boys will do anything to lose their virginity, especially with a girl they have a crush on. Which many times is pretty accurate. Even young adults to middle aged men can be that obsessed with having sex in those type of films (40 Year Old Virgin, American Pie again), they're just trying to make a comedy using common stereotypes, which usually fails miserably.
Sex is probably the easiest way to sell a film, the usual formula for a big budget terrible action film is boobs, explosions and more boobs, which is a huge shame. Even the latest Star Trek film had that unnecessary scene where Alice Eve is in her underwear... Why? So they could put her on the trailers and sell a few more tickets.
You see it in comedy films constantly, especially when it comes to racial stereotypes, every single race is pretty much copy and pasted.
4-2, 40 Year Old Virgin the lead.
