Why is there six characters on this list when the title says top five?

1. Darkseid is a good villain, but he's too much of a punching bag. Especially before the New 52 started since Superman was almost always beating him (when he shouldn't be able to). I mean, what's the point of being the ultimate Universal bad guy that everyone fears if Superman alone can beat him? This guy should require teams of heroes to win against him. In recent years, he's been made into more of a threat and I hope to see more of that from DC.

2. Speaking for myself, I hate Superboy-Prime. The reasons for him being a villain never made much sense to me and he was basically written with the maturity level of a 5 year old. I wish I could say this to his face: Heroes have flaws, no one is perfect. Get over it, Prime.

3. Black Adam is different than most villains because he's real (at least in the sense of how he acts). He doesn't pretend he's doing good by doing bad things (unlike some villains). He knows exactly what he is and doesn't shy away from it. He knows full well what he is and he's actually proud of himself even if he doesn't voice it. That's part of his allure.

4. Deathstroke is either hit or miss with me. On one hand, I really don't like the fact he thinks he's justified in trying to kill children in his numerous attempts at killing, and attacking, the Teen Titans. To me, only the worst kinds of people would ever do that and that is a stain on his record in my book. His reasoning for doing it? Even worse. "I wanted them be better heroes." And that made zero sense but the writer of Teen Titans wanted to some way to justify a man attacking, nearly killing, children.

On the other hand, I do like some stories that feature Deathstroke. He's a deeply flawed man that shows glimpses of a life he wanted to live but never got. It's implied in some stories he hates what he is, but he is helpless to change it. Others stories also write him as something of a heroic figure, even a reluctant one. And that is the side of the character I like seeing. But one who thinks he's justified in attacking children I will always hate.

5. As a long time reader of Superman comics, Lex Luthor takes the top spot on your list. He's pretty much done it all. Mad scientist, business man, US President, even a Super-Hero. Lex is by far one of my favorite comic book villains.
