I know that the "New 52" is 3 months old but I feel like it takes a while to get an opinion on something like a comic book or a new TV show that is released monthly or weekly so that's why I didn't comment on it yet.

Let’s backtrack first to 2008, to the day I first seen the movie Batman the dark knight I wanted to see more of Batman. I knew that he was originally a comic book character and all but when I saw how many comics’ issues were in Detective Comics and Batman I felt very discouraged. I knew that I could get "up-to-date" from websites like Wikipedia and later on ComicVine (after I discovered it) but the idea that I would be relying on a quick plot really didn't sit well with me. To me it was like if I wanted to read The Lord of the Rings books but instead of reading them, I just looked on SparkNotes for quick a synopsis of each chapter of the books. You miss a lot this way. It's not the same reading a paragraph on a comic arc than actually reading that arc yourself. For this reason I never stepped into my local comic book store until three months ago.

Through DC's heavily marketed campaign, I learned about the relaunch. It was exactly what I dreamed of! I went in to pick up my first comic book, Batman #1. I went home read it, loved it and I ended up buying every single book from the new 52! There are a lot of great stories going on in the new 52 but there's also a lot of garbage that I felt I wasted my money on. For example, I didn't even finish Green Arrow because it was so bad. The writing was terrible and nothing happened! If I would have picked up Green Arrow instead of Batman, I would have never have come to the comic shop again! The New 52's incentive was to bring in new readers. I felt that Green Arrow is doing the exact opposite. After reading this turd, who would want to continue with comics? I bought all 3 books so far in hopes that the story will pick up but it didn't! I really wanted to enjoy this book after all what isn't cool about a modern Robin Hood with a bow and arrows?

TThere were also many books that disturbed me a little. Of course Red Hood and the Outlaws has been talked about a billion times so I won’t go there but there were also many other books that gave me the same type of vibe. First of all there was Voodoo. I swear that book is walking the borderline of it being a porn graphic novel. Take away the thongs and bras and it’s an American Hentai (Japanese anime porn). Sure I guess some people are into this kind of stuff but for someone new coming in a comic shop, it makes it look like all comics are is something old men jerk off to in the form of a "nerdy" book. In my position that's not what a comic should be about. If you really want to see woman in skimpy clothing get Playboy or look it up online! Next there was the one part in Teen Titans, a book that I'm really enjoying where Wonder Girl told Red Robin to look up from her breasts. Where did that come from?!? It felt so unnecessary and out of place! I get that Scott Lobdell wanted to portray Wonder Girl as hot but there's different ways of doing that!

With that being said, there were also many books I'm really enjoying that seem to get it right and will continue to read. Some of these include, Detective Comics, Batman, Green Lantern, Nightwing, Batwing, Justice League Swamp Thing, and Animal Man. They seem to understand that superhero comics should be good guy against bad guy, how the bad guy makes the good guy stronger and the journey it takes the good guy to get there. Some of you might disagree but as a new reader this is what I look for in comic books and some things that push me away from the medium. For the comic industry to continue growing new readers must be brought in. The purpose of the New 52 was to bring new readers in but some of the writers took it in the wrong direction in my opinion
