DC Pull List

started getting 50 out of 52. these are what I'm still getting plus Smallville

List items

  • 8/10 never really liked WW so i didn't expect to like it but this book is awesome. one of the gripes i had with the character pre New 52 was that she always seemed arrogant which is a really unlikeable trait for a hero to have but this new version seems confident rather than arrogant, she is a more real character and has really benefited from the relaunch. I also love the mythical elements of the comic.

the writing and art make it feel like an indie which seems to work. one problem i have is that i haven't seen her fly yet (i might have missed it) so i don't know if she still has the ability. Definitely one of DC's better books

  • 3/10 This comic is utter horseshit. i am only buying it because it is the "main" book and i dont want to miss any potentially major developments. that and the shazam back-up, which kind of sucks as well. The writing is childlike, Johns doesnt seem to have a grasp on suspense. one part in particular comes to mind from issue 6, cyborg couldn't fix the MacGuffin, then Batman said he could do it so he did it. no explanation about what he did that fixed whatever was holding him up in the first place, just, couldn't do it, told he can do it, did it. its like Johns has no idea how to tell a story. He also has no idea how to write compelling likeable characters, he has spent the last 5 years turning green lantern into the most boring character in comics. there is a complete inconsistency in how the characters are portrayed between this and their solo books, including Aquaman which is weird since Johns writes that to.

Good art, very VERY bad writing.

  • 4/10 This started strong but is now piss poor so i will be probably be dropping it soon. the issue with George Perez was awful, how can people stand his art. it feels like this entire run so far has taken place over the span of like a day. there should be more to Kara's relationship with Superman, being that she is the only other survivor of Krypton you would think he would want to talk to her a bit more than he did in the first few issues. They haven't really dealt with her situation yet, instead moving from one bad story to the next. A status quo needs to be set soon because i have no idea were this title is going or who this new Kara is as a character.

  • 6/10 the first issue was excellent, really suspenseful but they couldn't keep it up. the writing isn't bad, there are no parts that seem Amateurish like too many of the other DC books (i'm looking at you Justice League) but its just not very exciting anymore. i like the idea of a western comic so i will stick with it a while longer to see if it improves.

  • 7/10 i like this a lot, good art and decent writing make it one of the best Bat books. however i'm not a big fan of the huge coincidence that throughout there entire careers neither Dick nor Bruce have ever dealt with the court of owls (and even believe it to be a myth) then all of a sudden at the same time they both have unrelated threats that are connected to the court. just a bit to convenient for my tastes. maybe if the threats were connected in some way but they're not.

I like the premise for the saiko character, i'm a sucker for villains from a heroes past but i don't like his costume design, it seems bland and undistinctive, not to mention unoriginal. i hope the character isn't actually dead because it would be nice for Dick to get a good rogues gallery.
