Having Crossovers not involving the entire universe?

I know everyone is sick of crossovers by now but yesterday in the Supergirl article about how Superman and Supergirl’s relationship has changed, it got me thinking of one. Towards the end of the article it says that later on they're going to be a crossover involving Superman, Superboy and Supergirl. I think it be a nice break form all the big crossovers. Plus it would be nice for the three of them to meet in the New 52.

I was thinking earlier while I was reading War of the Green Lanterns, why doesn’t Marvel make some crossovers that involve some of the similar titles. War of the Green Lanterns had all the Green Lantern Titles involved during that time, and X-Men Second Coming had different crossovers involving various X-Men titles during that time. I know the Avengers and New Avengers are fighting Osborn right now so that might be considered a crossover. Plus Spider-Man, Daredevil and Black Cat are supposed to be involved into a new love triangle. The FF and Fantastic Four kind of have one going on right now with Johnny Storm returning from the grave dealing with an alien invasion.

I think it be cool for a crossover involving Spider-Man, Venom, and Scarlet Spider titles. The three of them can team up to kick some ass, or to kill each other. If they're going to do that they can throw in Anti-Venom and Black Cat into the mix. They could have done another Wolverine, Daken: Dark Wolverine, and X-23 crossover, if you count the Wolverine goes to Hell Storyline and the Collision involving Daken and X-23. They can do one with Captain and Winter Soldier and maybe another Hulk crossover. Or even a Secret Avengers and Uncanny X-Force titles since both teams are suppose to be top secret. Maybe Winter Soldier and Venom can do a crossover too. I know this kind of sounds lame right now with Avengers vs. X-Men coming out later this year but it’s just a thought.

I think its funny that after I wrote this blog, DC Comics started having little crossovers with various of their New 52 titles. I think they were planning it for a while but just announce some after this was written was ammusing to see. I just hope they don't go over board with them though.

@jsphsmth: Oh I see what you mean. You want it to be a big surpirse when the crossover does happen right?

This other part is just adding to the blog. Still I'm starting to notice a pattern with marvel after I posted this blog. Lately Spider-Man and Daredevil have been some little corssovers with another character such as Punisher and Black Cat. We could consider the Avenging Spider-Man title as a monthly crossover with another character. I wonder how that would work when it comes time for the trade to be released? Would it be like collecting the first three issues called Avenging Spider-Man: Red Hulk? I just went to the store earlier and saw Spider-Island out in hardcover containing Amazing Spider-man 666-673 (The Main Event), Venom 6-8 or possibly 9 (The Tie-Ins) can't remember, Spider-man Deadly Foes and Amazing Spider-Man 659-660, 662-665 (Infested Stories).

With Snyder writing Batman, mystery has finally returned to the Batman comics after suffering under a previous writer's control for too many years. I am enjoying the tale, so I try not to read too much about it. That way I can maximize my enjoyment.

I am not sure how Marvel handles crossovers and trades. It looks like the Venom issue you referenced are also in the Vemon volume 2 trade also.

@saoakden: I did forget to mention Superboy in addition to Teen Titan and Legion Lost crossing over. Superboy and Teen Titans have been telling opposite side of the NOWHERE story since issues one. Howard Mackie confirmed in an interview that his new team book, Ravagers, will be spinning out of the Superboy/TT/LL crossover.

I don't think that the Court of Owls will affect all of the Batman group titles, but I am trying not to read Scott Snyder's interviews. I am enjoying the arc too much to spoil anything for myself.

@jsphsmth: I was aware of Spider-Island, I never bought the comics cause money is kinda tight and I did see how a few of the Venom issues were tied into the event. But it was kinda dumb on Marvel's end to have two big events going on at once or three. And I think its awesome how the Batman titles are going to have a crossover and the Superman titles. Isn't Teen Titans going to crossover with Superboy and Legion Lost. I think Teen Titans and Superboy are already doing some kind of crossover right now. And cool for Rick Remender for planning some kind of crossover with the top secret characters or alleged secret characters.

@DalekDoctor2011: Damn that kinda sucks. Poor Eddie, well he is consider a hero now so good for him.

Speaking of Batman Crossover is it going to involve all the Batman titles or a most of them? Sounds exciting. Probably as eexciting as Second Coming or The Sinestro Corps War or even the New Krypton Saga for Superman.

I would like to see a crossover series from DC and Marvel involving Batman, Nightcrawler and Spider-Man meeting up in Gotham, with Batman giving Spidey his black suit, and the two of them tracking down nightcrawler through the streets of gotham, Crawler' being a scared and lonely mutant.

@saoakden: All companies do smaller crossovers. They just don't get the same attention that larger company-wide crossovers get.

IDW did Infestation and are currently doing Infestation 2.These crossovers only involved a few of their titles each time.

Marvel just did Spider-Island. You might have missed it because it was at the same time that Fear Itself was finishing up.

DC has confirmed small crossovers in the future: Swamp Thing/Animal Man, Teen Titans/Legion Lost, and The Court of Owls will be affecting many Bat-titles in May.

Rick Remender is writing Secret Avengers/Uncanny X-Force and Venom. He did state that they would be crossing over at some point.
