Funny thing about vampires was that they were a pain to see coming. Even though she could hear clear through the warehouse, the utter lack of sound made hunting into a herculean ordeal. There were tricks to it, though. Sharp eyes trained on corners, on ceilings. Anywhere a bloodsucker could be hiding. Every now and then she splashed holy water on a surface behind her, or threw down loose grains. Occasionally she ran into vampires suffering from Arithmomania. If Sam got lucky, they got stuck counting the grains long enough for her to dust them.
Today wasn't her lucky day, because she almost got floored by a vampire that burst out from a shelf. Her assailant hadn't regained his balance by the time she went for his mid-section. Spreading her hands wide, she grabbed him and tilted backwards. It bought enough time to stake him. He shrieked; loud enough for it to reverberate throughout the entire building.
More shrieks followed. The hunt turned on its head.
Bone snapped when she delivered the first blow to the mugger. His gun dropped and he fell to his knees screaming in anguish, only to be silenced by a shattering kick to the jaw. Shoving him off to the side, the scarlet spideress led the frightened victim out of the alley. Before he could thank her, Sam was off with a thwip of web from her wrist. A quick sail through the air brought her up to a rooftop, where she surveiled the area for more crime. As she perched on a ledge, she fidgeted, impatient and eager to exercise some good stress relief.
Sam's an ex-cop. When a serious injury made her unfit for active duty, she was given the choice of a desk job or the boot. She chose the boot. Her super-powers healed the injury, but she didn't want to risk exposing her powers just to go back to law enforcement.
She's got severe anger issues that often spill into her vigilantism. While she's not a murderer, she's dealt some pretty savage beatings to criminals.
